Star Wars is a very good story. I say that as perhaps the only living human being who actually read the original book by George Lucas. It did not bear much similarity to the story that became the film franchise; but that was still the basis.
As to Star Trek...well....let's just say that when geeks die, they don't go to Heaven...they are beamed up.

Star Trek gets the edge because it had TV series and movies, and the recent Star Trek movie was much better than those ridiculous prequel Star Wars movies with baby Vader. Don't get me wrong, the first three Star Wars movies were great (and by first three, I mean the first three made), but there's been a lot of crap associated with Star Wars in recent years, while Star Trek's only real miss was Enterprise.
