If both were on at the same time, I'd wear out the remote by halftime. That said, I bet football, so a slight edge there. That is unless I'm losing big, in which case I'm watching neither, since the tv is now somewhere in the Middlesex Fells Reservation.

Although I'd put baseball well ahead of either of them, football comes out on top in a one on one against hoops as far as I'm concerned. While football has more than its share of flaws (I particularly like George Will's comment that football exemplifies the two worst elements of American culture, violence and committee meetings) it is far more entertaining than the NBA style of basketball.

Basketball is a great game. Truly an American invention we can be proud of. . .but-Football is king. Chess with beer, violence, steriods. . .throw in bad weather during the holidays and you have a great sport tailored for our calendar from Labor Day to late Jan. (that's when you can start thinking about Valentine's Day)There's speed, strategy, and thrills. . .great players, heroes, and villains. . .Much of the American ethos and philosophy is found in baseball- but football does represent much of America. We like our violence compartmentalized. . .we (usually) like rewarding hard work (contracts aren't guaranteed thus players do have to work hard) we like those who care about the team without sacrificing much of their personal ambition. Most foreigners I know can't stand the game - a handful (very few) give it a shot and love the game and swear it teaches them a little about their new culture around them. Good and bad. . .

Football. Such was the case even years ago when basketball was still basket ball. Now, with the contact sport that is not supposed to be a contact sport and the players hanging on da' rimsk...give me the real deal any day.

If I was a sports person, I'd choose basketball -- it's not nearly as rough as football is.

I don't even watch the Superbowl. Look at my profile picture. What do you think my preference is?
