Hot dogs are ok at a picnic, but they have to all beef. None of this tripe stuff, which is what most of the hot dogs are made out of.

Only if they're certain kinds. I really prefer burgers.

Again this is something that I attribute more to a cook-out than a picnic.

Love them! Easy picnic food - popular with nearly everyone. Our current favorite brands are Nathan's and Hebrew National. Tasty and decent ingredients (well, as hotdogs go.)

People usually ruin these things for two reasons - 1. They buy lousy supermarket brands and 2. They charbroil them black.

Go to a butcher and buy the expensive quality ones (not cheap but worth it) Grill them without blackening them. . .toast the buns lightly. . .buy the expensive mustard. Just because it's picnic food doesn't mean you can't class it up a bit.

Hot dogs aren't really that great, but I'll give them four stars for reliability. Even if the guy manning the grill is a complete moron, it's hard for him to screw up hotdogs. In fact, if the guy manning the grill is a moron, you should definitely go with a hotdog, because he'll probably undercook the chicken, burgers and pork chops, and burn the steak.
