Sherman, William Tecumseh (1820-1891) (USA General) 4

A highly competent savage on the battlefield, who today would probably have been dumped on a psychological discharge. He was, in fact, relieved of command early in the war for what was likely a nervous breakdown or chronic depression, before getting his shit together in time to become what some have described as "the first modern general."

A very interesting character, and a fascinating historical study, but I suspect he was a damn difficult man to be around.
