This is a complex issue as far as strange things children eat are concerned. Playground sand isn't the cleanest stuff around. It's downright filthy actually. It's hell on the teeth, but children are going to get replacements eventually. It would taste different depending on whether the sand was dry or wet, hot or cold. Some children eat playground sand freely and of their own volition, while others have it fed to them. Most children instinctively spit out sand, but in some districts the sand's lead content effectively suppresses this instinct.
