The ship and crew were good. What I don't like is that after already spending money for the cruise, they try to nickel and dime you to death with overpriced drinks and outrageously expensive shore excursions. I know its a business and they want to make a profit, but come on, $5.95 for a simple rum cocktail that maybe costs them 50 cents for ingredients? Be reasonable, and charge three bucks and I would have ordered them. Just because you have a captive market doesn't mean you need to try to shake them down for every last dollar, that's bush league.
As for the food, the breakfast and lunch buffet, it was mediocre. The dinners were very good. The staff was always very professional.
All in all, Carnival Cruises have no elegance about them, but they don't profess to. They are like Denny's, very basic, nothing special about them.

The service is amazing, the rooms are gorgeous, the staff is second-to-none, the ship is small so you will get to have contact with everyone on board!

We have been on two cruises on two different ships with Princess. We always get the balcony suite and the anytime dining so we can eat in the speciality restaurants, so worth the extra money!!

We have not been disappointed yet. The service is awesome. We actually had to ask them to stop cleaning our room because they would go in and pick up EVERY time we went in and came back out which was a lot!!

I signed up for the gym but if you are a loner like me and used to running on trails and not into gymrats you are better off to not do so and just run on the running deck or just get in a lot more snorkelling and zipline excursions! :)

Im going to Alaska on Princess this year if anyone has gone Id love to know what to expect. Tips etc. If not Ill let you know what I think when I get back!

We just returned from our first-ever cruise, and it was with Carnival. So I can't compare them with any other ones. I will say that it was a great experience. The wait staff were all young people from other countries like Croatia, Belarus, the Philippines, Ireland, etc. All of them were so polite and eager to do things for us.

Traveling was a little rough because the waves were choppy, but that can be expected in January. The price was very affordable. But I noticed that they will try to find a way to get money out of you every time you turn around. They're always coming around offering to sell liquor, and they constantly take your picture whether you're posing or not, then hope you'll buy said photos. And there are gift shops and gambling rooms.

Fortunately, I have zero interest in casinos or alcohol, so I didn't lose my shirt on this trip....just enjoyed being waited on and having some great meals - and making friends with total strangers.

frequent odor of sewage in hallway and from balcony. Had to be coming from ship as we were as seat when it was present doing 18k

most crew memers were fantastic, but a few appeared to wish they were doing something else. Food and selection were very good. Will probably never travel on Carnival again. A great crew, lousy ship.

My wife and I recently cruised on the Holland American line but, on the ship named the Rotterdam.  We did a 12 day cruise of the Baltic Sea.  The ship is rated 5 star and,  in most cases, I believe you get what you pay for.  Unlike people who enjoy being on a very large ship, we like the intamacy of a smaller ship.  The Rotterdam sails with about 1500 passengers. The food, cabin, service, entertainment, and ship amenaties were excellent.

We, unfortunately had two disturbing problems. There was a sewer smell coming from the toilet bowel in our bathroom.  It took them 9 days for the plumbers to finally fix the problem.  Their was another plumbing problem that was never fixed. On our side of the ship, in the passageway we walked through to get to our cabin, intermittantly along the corrador, there was also a strong sewage smell.

I have written a letter to Holland America informing them of our dissatisfaction with the on going unresolved problem.  I assume that it was fixed before the next group of vacationers boarded the ship.

We were going to take another cruise on Holland America next year but, depending on the response to our letter, we may decide to take a different cruise line.

If you're gonna cruise, try to make it this ship.  I believe, or at least at the time we boarded it, it was the largest Cruise Ship on the ocean.  I know they said there was going to be a bigger one, but not sure.  We did a 7 day in early December (awesome with the CHRISTmas lights) and it is like a small city in there.  24 hour restaurant, restaurants where you need to make reservations, buffets, Johnny Rockets, shows ~ come to think of it, we DID eat a lot (just kidding). Rock climbing, basketball court, putt-putt golf, etc.  Made those two straight days of sailing bearable.
