My wife and I recently cruised on the Holland American line but, on the ship named the Rotterdam. We did a 12 day cruise of the Baltic Sea. The ship is rated 5 star and, in most cases, I believe you get what you pay for. Unlike people who enjoy being on a very large ship, we like the intamacy of a smaller ship. The Rotterdam sails with about 1500 passengers. The food, cabin, service, entertainment, and ship amenaties were excellent.
We, unfortunately had two disturbing problems. There was a sewer smell coming from the toilet bowel in our bathroom. It took them 9 days for the plumbers to finally fix the problem. Their was another plumbing problem that was never fixed. On our side of the ship, in the passageway we walked through to get to our cabin, intermittantly along the corrador, there was also a strong sewage smell.
I have written a letter to Holland America informing them of our dissatisfaction with the on going unresolved problem. I assume that it was fixed before the next group of vacationers boarded the ship.
We were going to take another cruise on Holland America next year but, depending on the response to our letter, we may decide to take a different cruise line.
