This is the second Cannon IXUS model that I have purchased and as before I have been impressed. Picture quality is excellent even when using the digital zoom although a stand is recommended, particularly in poor light. One of the things that make these cameras so attractive is the ease of use, along with a range of camera modes which allow even novices to take good photos in range of environments.

I have had the camera for almost 2 years now and it still works well with no signs of drop in performance. The cameras look is stylish with no visible signs of scratches despite its frequent use.
The only drawbacks are the cost which is still relatively expensive compared with other models currently out there with the same specification and the size which is quite chunky. Also the memory card provided is virtually worthless due to its size, however with the cost of SD cards this is not a significant problem.

It took the D700 to finally pry my old Nikon F5 film camera out of my hands.

With the prices of top end equipment today, I don't know how a young "photog" can even get started, but this D700 is quite a piece of equipment. Nikon is pretty good about making bodies that are compatible with their older lenses and thankfully, I already had a bagful of Nikon glass. Nevertheless, I still dropped $3,500 for the body and SB900 flash.

Together with a Macbook Pro, I'm getting some great stuff from this new body (and I don't miss the endless hours in the darkroom or outside lab expenses). Obviously, anyone who jumps from film to top end digital will be amazed at the speed, versatility and creative ability of a body like the D700, but I spent nearly two years looking at Nikon bodies, so I knew what to expect. I love the FX format, but the D3x at 8 grand was never a serious consideration for me. The 24 megapix and a few other bells and whistles couldn't make that sale to a working man.

I've been through the book twice and frequently reference the Magic Lantern book as well, but I'll be another year or two playing catch-up to the digital world. I am enjoying the journey.

My fiance and I went to Hawaii to get married. We went snorkeling almost everyday and this camera was a hit. We joked about getting another so we wouldn't have to take turns. I'm a botanist and I take a lot of close ups. I love the automatic macro which saves me from having to press another button. All buttons are easy for me. We took 3000 photos in 13 days. Movies are really nice. Great photos both above and underwater. Our photos came out way better than those I saw in the reviews before I bought it. Not one problem since I bought it in June 2009.

I was quite impressed with the quality of the Pentax Optio W60. On the water, in the water or anywhere, it takes great pictures. Just went on vacation recently and everyone commented on the clarity and image quality.

We recently had the opportunity to visit Hawaii and this little Canon performed beautifully. We took over a thousand pictures with the camera, both above and below the water. It never skipped a beat. Did not have to worry about pampering this camera while in the water. Very durable. Great in the surf, on the beach and at the water park.

Pros: Excellent pictures both above and below the water
No leakage in any of the latches
Standard battery lasted most of the day on the beach
Size was good for my hands (male 6'2")
Good night time photos (on par with my three Sony Digital cameras)
Excellent underwater photos, even in non-pristine conditions of the North shore
Excellent day time photos
Great lanyard with multiple attachment points.

Cons: Cycle time between pictures feels slow and can be reduced via menu options
Bigger battery reserve would be helpful. Comes standard with a 1000 mah.

Very poor design on this unit, though the binoculars will do in a pinch if it's a heck of a pinch. Photos look like their coming from the Moon--or for all anyone knows, your photo may BE the Moon. This was me ordering first, checking reviews later. That smoke you smell is me having been burned. Shame on you, Vivitar--your better than this thing. Won't get fooled again!

I love this CANON camera.Canon never makes bad camera!!!
I did some research before I had chosen this one cause I was
in need for waterproof camera. I got it 2 months ago and,
of course, I dropped it first time I took it out, it rolled over
rocks for few yards-it got some scratches, but works perfect.
Image Stabilizer is very useful, especially when
you digitally zoom in, your shots are rarely out of focus and
I find smart you can move the mount of your strap. Still haven't tried
it on night mode, though. but overall- totally worth every
single dollar you had payed for it. oh, did I mentioned battery's long life?

I can't comment on the quality of the pictures from this camera as I don't have any yet, and may never if the SD chip was ruined..

On the camera's third trip into the water I noticed water in the view screen area. Then I noticed that the battery/SD card compartment door was not properly seated. I have diagnosed the underlying problem as poor design with respect to the battery compartment door locking mechanism. There is a single release button which stands proud of the surrounding surface. If it is bumped or brushes up against your wrist it can easily release the locking lever on the battery compartment door. The locking lever is spring-loaded to pop up into a position where it is easy to manipulate to complete opening the battery compartment door. But it appears that, even with the locking lever only partially raised, the watertight seal will have been broken allowing water to enter the camera.

A good solution might be to have two relase buttons rather than one and for both to be recessed so that they are not easy to release accidently. The locking lever should also be redesigned so that it does not automatically pop up into a semi-opened condition.

If you already have one of these cameras and have not flooded it, I suggest that you try electrical tape over the release button and the locking lever as a way to prevent accidental opening. If Vivitar replaces mine (it goes in the mail tomorrow), that is what I am going to try.

What a fun camera to have along on our annual trip to the water park. Videos going down water slides are cool! Gruesome affects taking portraits of people looking down into the water with camera under water. Its twelve mega pixel sensor makes large images, we tried an eight gigabyte memory card and feel it was plenty. A second battery is a must. Not that the battery capacity is lacking, we enjoy taking pictures and a second battery would have lasted well beyond the day in the sun.
We've had it a month now and know for sure we can use it for any pictures. Shutter lag was not noticed at all. This will be my "go to," wet weather camera.
