I have an '06 Arctic Cat 650 v2 and I have put some hard miles on this machine as I live in North Western Ontario. The ground and weather here is rough to say the least!
My kitty is a sure footed, fire breathing dragon.
After maket tires, air filter and winch. But the big thing here is that the machine is serviced every month or two.
For some reason my engines valves get tight, and I have to reset the valve clearence on intake valves(4-6 thousands) and exhaust valves(8-10 thousands). After I do the machine starts and runs like the day I got it, as time and the rides go by the quad starts to lose power and is hard to start.
Yes it's time to adjust the valve again!
My Kawasaki mechanic says "that's the way those engines are".
Otherwize the quad performs and 4 wheels like no other quad i've rode. 27 inch tires (swamp lites)and all kinds of ground clearance is amazing. Power from the v twin is good and laying on the throtle allmost always gets you out of hole or will pick up the front tires and carry them for a distance.
So far so good

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. PRIMARY CLUTCHES. I have a 2007 650 tbx. Mine goes out every 350miles. 3 times now. Did the washer fix the problem? This is the biggest piece of crap i ever had. $ pit Arctic cat won't doing anything to help. Arctic cat sucks

Review Icon awiel5 reviewed Honda Recon in ATVS:
This is a great quad. I am 19 and my family bought our recon new in 2002. Me and my friends have beat this thing to hell. It has been wrecked numerous times and still is still in near perfect wroking condition. We have never had any problems with it. It has been in 3 different diches. Once it was flown into the ditch at about 30mph and is still fine. I own other quads as well and the recon definitly is not the fastest, but it is very light and fun to drive. Wheelies on this quad are easy to do and also jumping on this quad is a lot of fun. We use it also to load wood that we cut. We load more weight on this quad than one should. We still have the shock tires on this thing and they are bald and still we are able to take this thing through deep mud and water without a problem. I love this quad and recommend it to all ages.

Review Icon Grelber reviewed Honda Rincon in ATVS:
In my opinion the Rincon is at or near the top in the practical areas (fit & finish, quality of Honda service manual, amount of maintenance required, resale value, reliability, cost of maintenance & repair, etc.).
For my type of riding (midwest USA, lots of tight trails & a little bit of everything else) the engine has plenty of power & the agility and comfort seems to be as good as it gets for a larger displacement ATV. I suspect that a heavy diet of mountain riding would lead me to prefer something with a front locking differential & a lower bottom gear range and desert riding would make me prefer something with v-twin horsepower.
I really like the transmission. 90% of the time I leave it in auto and let it worry about when to shift. For the scary hills I'll put it in low and esp just for comforts sake & for steady crusing I'll use esp to stop it from shifting more than necessary.
I'm used to using manual brakes (mountain bike & motorcycle background) so engine braking on steep downhills is not an issue for me.
Bottom line - For my needs and riding environment I'd buy the Rincon again without hesitation.

Review Icon ka396 reviewed Honda Recon in ATVS:
I see a lot of younger people reviewing this quad, and I know it is entry level quad, but that might turn some older riders away. I am 22, 5'10" and 170 pounds and I ride the 01 model Recon and have absolutely no problems with it. I have beaten this thing in every way imaginable, loaded up with FAR more weight than it should ever carry, towed things it should have never been towing and hit JUMPS with it that no utility quad should ever see and it just keeps ticking. The quad has sit outside through north east winters for 6 years without a cover, hasn't been maintained very well at all and yet still the only problem I have ever encountered was it needing a carb cleaning.

The great thing about this quad for a full size rider is that it is just big enough to be comfortable, get over any obstacle and it has enough power to still feel quick (and more than enough torque to never feel bogged down if you pick the right gear) BUT since it isn't the biggest or heaviest quad it is cake to maneuver and you can really shift your weight on it to easily manipulate it from getting stuck. This is a great aspect as even a 4 wheel drive quad WILL get stuck eventually, and when it does it can be a pain in the ass to get out. The recon is light enough that you can just rock it, tip it or lean back on it and get out of anything. I have taken it through a few feet of snow and never had problems. Of course a 4wd would be better if you ride in nothing but DEEP sand or really high snow, but the recon CAN make it...just sometimes with a little more trouble than a 4wd quad. But then again, I have never used a dedicated snow/sand tire in these conditions so that could make all the difference.

In the hilly/woods/trail riding I have done, I have never once had a gripe with it's performance and never felt like I was losing anything from not having 4wd that wasn't made up for by the aforementioned ability to be able to shift the quads weight around to prevent getting stuck.

I would say unless you are a very big individual, you will NOT be disappointed with this quad and it will give you many years of problem free driving.

Simply the best, better than all the rest! Bought a 2005 outlander 400 in the fall of 2005. The only thing I've had to do is break pads (normal mtce) and add the flare kit (if that's what they're called) to the outside fenders to help keep mud spray off myself. I run superswampers front and back. Most of my riding is in the heavy bush over logs thru bogs and all sorts of muck. The only time I have any problems is when that dumb rider screws up. I would buy another one in a heart beat. My buddies all ride 500/600 and 800. I go where they go and back again and always in time for supper. Of course I ride in the GREAT WHITE NORTH of CANADA and being a crazy canuk probably don't know from nothing and on top of that I'm an old fart at 63 and probably my mind is slipping. However I'm happy in my senility. By the way I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and we ride about 300 miles north of here. I think that qualifies for rough terrain.

Still crazy after all these years

As with any product in the world, there is always gona be some sent out with defective parts. "HInts the 90day warnts' So for the few people that had the bad luck of buying a defective wheeler, Stop hating and blaming honda and suck it up. it happends to every one sometime in their life. I got my 2008 rancher 420TM 4X4 on 3-20-09 and have not had one inssue with it. After i broke it in I took it and sunk it under water. "did not mean to haha" I drained the water out of the air box and fired it right up and ran like a champ. I take it out at least 2-3 times a week and run it down my hardwood swamp trails and run in threw deep mud and sticks and water and It has taken everything i have thrown at it. I knew befor i Bought it that HOnda made the strongest most reliable bikes on the market and my 420 has gone beyond my expectations. I have always owns a honda car or bike and i always will. the Fourmans are also great ATVs that i have played with alot.
