I have the Record at 33 rpm .Bought it when serving in the Korean
Conflict. It had just come out and I bought it in the PX..Played it until my phonograph died. . I would now like it on a CD but can't find one priced in my income bracket. . .75 years old and thought I was on a fixed income until I was informed that my retirement income would be reduced by 42%. . .Know of any good buys?

The songs on this album that are performed by both Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova are rich and soulful, but I found the few songs performed (and I assume written) by Marketa in solo were weak and wavering in stark contrast.

Despite that, Strict Joy is a solid followup to Falling Slowly, full of lavish harmonies, powerful orchestration and deliciously thick bass that resonates in your chest. The deluxe version of this album also includes 14 live tracks from their previous tour (for only a few more dollars), which makes it a great introduction to their music (which you may have heard in the indie film, Once). They selected the live tracks with care, and the performances are stellar. I'd previously purchased a few of their concerts on playedlastnight.com, and I can attest that the performances they picked to include on this deluxe release are really some of their best.

Here's a taste (and my favorite new song):
Low Rising - lovely video directed by Sam Beam of Iron & Wine

This C.D is a fantastic example of a well rounded, perfect musical work. First song to last song, Steve Hass manages to make the listener travel with him. The musicians are the best in the business, the production is masterful, and the repertoire has something for everyone. Listen to one song, or treat it like a book where you begin at track 1 and end at track 12. Either way, it's a beautiful listen. A great gift for any music lover.

FOR GOTHIC WANNABES, THIS COULD BE THE ULTIMATE DEAL

Hi everybody!
Let's talk frankly, this platter is unworthy the money.Let's face it openly, it's pure shit, made by some Rammstein-rip-offs. Production is almost non existent, as it was recorded live, in my opinion. Vocals are sung like a lame Rammstein copycat, voice volume often overtakes the guitar (has it always that buzzing-cheap flanger sound? anyway ,so annoying), drums and programming are weak, also the synth is sometimes like a midi-toy piano (e.g. in "Schmerz").
I remember listening to this cd with a friend who introduced me to them, it was all an utter laughing our brains off from track one.
It seemed like a Rammstein meet Lacrimosa-cum-Blutengel orgy with no sense of dignity or identity, just jumpin' the "goth-rock/industrial" bandwagon. With no substance or creativity.
I enjoyed myself listening to all the different range of grossy errors, from the harmless "Lieber Gott", maybe the worst german song ever, without a melodic structure or any faintest idea of what a good riff should sound like, and a REALLY bad chorus, to "Rock Me Amadeus" (yeah, the cover of that old Falco wanker's tune), which, after a sleepy 2 minutes intro in which at least the events of (the real thing!!) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's life are accurate, it all fucks up like a idiot i-m-sooo-coool-i'm goooffff-ouughh(and so on...), with silly vocal progression and guitar licks, sounding terribly slow and yet similar to the original one with funny chorus and shitty samples, like in a Christina Aguilera "song"." Aufrecht" starts with a good oscillator effect and synth licks, but it's ruined by a irritating robot voice and drums with absolute no emphasis, and "Schmerz", is also embarassing, 'cos here the band can't even bother to synchronize the patterns and the beat with each other, as in the chorus and final part , where the voice anticipates horribly the rhythmic section.Ouch!! "Winst Du" could make fans of Sopor Aeternus and Kraftwerk get angry, for the main riffs of pipes and electronics strongly resemble both bands, if it wasn't for that trendy stop and go guitar riffs.I'm going smash up something!
Dare I say the worst number, so my 'favourite' one, is probably the unbelievably naive "Goth Music", a track in which Umbra Et Imago admittedly are proud to be a clichè, corporate poseurs, and they enumerate the advantages of being GGGGOOOOOTTHHH..."this is the sound of underground/live the gothic cult be adark star"...stop it,please!!
So embarassingly stupid and self-indulgent, after all, but really, really demential!! ah, by the way "Jahr Und Tag" incorporates also a choir of smack addicted children, in my opinion, because they sing with really fucked up moans and no feeling at all. I don't wanna lose any more time on this masterpiece of charlatanery, avoid it like a mortal plague!!

A pretty awful, obscure, undistinguished, late 60's Californian band. There's some nice guitar work on the album, but the songs are pedestrian at best, dreadful at worst. There is a ton of good music from that era- what they play on the radio is only the tip of the iceberg. However, some records are obscure or forgotten for a reason. For 60's music junkies only.

This is the BEST Na Palapalai CD ever! They have returned to their roots as a duo featuring additional musicians for live shows and concerts. Nanea has 4 original songs and is a must have in any Hawaiian music collection. I keep listening to it over and over again!!

First Impressions of Earth really sounds no different than 2001's Is This It. The band really hasn't grown, or experimented, at all.

I don't really have a problem with this.

I liked what they sounded like in 2001, and I like that they still sound like that.
