I elected to take Cooking I think it was in grade 9. I'm pretty sure it was because I liked my chances of meeting girls in that class over Wood Shop. I lucked out and got into a group with a girl I liked but had to put up with her pain-in-the-ass best friend too. I learned enough to enable me to get around in the kitchen without starting any major fires.

Unlike oscar's experience, the teacher was a coyly sexy, youngish, English woman who made sure the two males in the class enjoyed the experience, in hopes of encouraging integration. She wasn't quite as smokingly hot as the French teacher but close, in a buttoned down sort of way.

Easy class for me, though the teacher I had in the 7th grade...well, he was one of the biggest douchebags I've ever met.

I recall looking in the Canada chapter and seing Leon Wild Ye....Franks Wild Years in a Blue Jays uniform riding a walrus on Page 246.

I liked French in elementary school, where we still basically took English and it was more an overview of the language and of France. I still feel a little bit intimidated when I think back to my high school French. Once you got to French II the teacher wouldn't allow English spoken in the class and she was fiesty.

Never took it. But, if I was the same then as I am now, I'd somehow get into that girls' school in Harlem if it killed me. I don't care if it's 215 miles away.

Geography was a pretty cool class, but what I remember was more memorization of capital cities and locations than anything of substance.

My father signed up for home-ec in the '30s when he learned that students got to eat all that they cooked.

He was the only boy in Greenwich who valued nutrition over image.

Review Icon minkey reviewed Art in School Subjects:
Mostly a blow off class, kind of fun but more of an annoyance. Unless you were an artist then I guess it would be great.

Maybe oscar, Drummond and I should collaborate on a list of biology teachers, similar to those about women news anchors.
\
My biology teacher was a foul smelling crone who was probably the model for one of the witches in Shakespeare's MacBeth.

She got way too excited about pithing and dissecting frogs.

I loved it. Most people tolerate and live with it. Only imbeciles hate it.

Learn history or repeat it. That lesson has seldom been clearer in the last three decades.
