Nothing like it in the world of architecture. Great opinions, compelling arguments, entertaining mix of views and - music!

Pretty boring. On several shows, they sit and watch youtube videos while laughing in the mic.

Sharp, funny, brainy but accessible. A must-listen for anyone interested in the ideas behind today's designs.

Most of the conversations go like this -

Simmons: Why didn't this movie/project work?

The interviewee: Because the studio/management/or other rich people changed my vision or refused to buy in.

Simmons: Me, too. It sucks to be smarter than everyone.
(Note: Simmons has no movie experience although you would never know it from his podcasts.)

The lone exception where the studio gave them free rein - Friday Night Lights.
The result - the show got booted off NBC and is now broadcast over the web.

The Good: The podcasts with his friends are fairly enjoyable. A decent mix of jokes, memories and information. Good chemistry too.

The Bad: The interviews with his colleagues tend to go long. Also Simmons' poorly thought out theories bring down the quality of the podcasts. His refusal to admit that the interviewee might know more about the sport than he does also waters down the quality of the podcast.

The Ugly: When interviewing sports figures and people from other industries (read 99% from Hollywood), the conversation seems to eventually turn into a cry-fest on how stupid the higher ups are. This is usally followed by Simmons, afraid to offend the guests, agreeing with whatever the interviewee has to say. Either because he is star-stuck or because he is easily manipulated, Simmons tends to hold these guests in high regard and almost always speaks of them in glowing terms. Such much for unbias analysis.

The Japanofiles podcast ( http://japanofiles.com/ ) has lots of interesting interviews with English-speaking foreigners living in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

Generally fine, and funny, show. Hosts Len and Nora complement each other despite, or because of, their contrasting personalities. Needs more Neil, though.
