Just was looking at that bank and I will say it is in the middle. If the bank has a new branch, they will have both checking and savings integrated. The one thing is that it is a limited time, after that, there are fees to pay for that and they separate those accounts. What is good is that it is a small mutistate bank. In this case, you have the freedom to use ANY ATM at no charge (there are some exclusions though.) I may give it a try, but we are starting to see the banks without fees on checking and savings accounts to be a rarity....

This is the worst bank ever!! I opened an account at the Franklin NH location, my husband opened a personal account in Laconia NH......horrible HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK....FIND ANOTHER BANK. I've only been with this bank a few months and I will be opening another account elsewhere as soon as possible. They have the worst policies and customer service I have ever seen in a bank....STAY AWAY FROM CITIZENS BANK, if you don't you will be sorry.

I also would not even give TCF bank a 1 star rating let alone anything higher. By far this has been the worst bank I have had to the displeasure to deal with.

I found out that even though they get my payroll deposit on Thursday and post it at 12;01 am on Friday morning, it is "technically" on HOLD until 12:01 am Saturday morning. This is just not right. I am going to go to my local credit union as they do not hold payroll deposits for any lenght of time. This is just another way that TCF uses to STEAL money from their customers through NSF fees. So far this month of November, because I was not advised of this HOld policy when I opened my account, they have charged me over 500 in NSF fees.

Do yourself a favor DO NOT OPEN an account with TCF Bank.

First the good - great deal on IRA brokerage IF you are a PMA customer, no problems with Mortgage loan servicing, scan (envelope-less) ATMs are great, modern online banking. However...

They have no clue as to how to run a business. My wife, with great credit, just got bumped from 11.9% to 23% on her credit card, which she has carried a $3000-4000 variable balance as part of her business. Makes some sense at 11.9%, no deal at 23%. Called them and offered to continue to carry a balance at 12%, they get no interest at 23. They chose to make no money, we chose to stop paying interest by paying the thing off. Sorry CA, no sales tax on a jacuzzi this year! So not only did WF rip off themselves, they also ripped off the state of CA, and saved me a ton of $ on water and electricity - hey maybe I should thank them for being stupid?

What is the Expiration Date on Human Decency?

My husband and I just welcomed our sweet little boy into the world. His coming was not an easy one. He was born blue and needed resuscitation after almost 36 hours of labor that ended in an emergency C-section. Four minutes later he took his first breath.

The next two weeks in NICU were not easy. There was significant trauma to the head and he experienced sometimes up to 24 seizures per day. There were times he stopped breathing completely and had to be resuscitated.

My husband and I were told that the home we were in the process of remodeling would have to be completed before the doctors would allow him to come home. My sweet parents, living forty-five minutes away, opened their doors to my son and me until the project was completed. My husband, family members, and neighbors rallied together in a herculean effort that touched me deeply.

Employers were extremely supportive and let my husband have more than a month off work. He would wake up at eight and work nonstop until midnight every day, sacrificing spending the first six weeks of his new son’s life with his new family.

My husband’s stress was compounded by the financial strain of finishing our home so his family could come home. As a result, things slipped through the cracks on occasion, no matter how hard he juggled. During this time we accrued over $1200 in overdraft fees from Wells Fargo Bank, all of which we made good on within a week.

In the past Wells Fargo had always been fair to us. We had no qualms with them. We thought the overdraft fee of $35 a bit steep but took our losses as they came. Many times they did forgive us our fees and we were grateful. We believed in human decency because they forgave us our mistakes. Not always, but enough that we still believed. Apparently, there is an expiration date on decency.

Not one of the $1200 in fees was forgiven during our family ordeal. We were instructed to call employees higher up the employment chain to see what could be done, if anything. To our shock and surprise, our requests were not only denied, but we were treated with disdain and scorn.

How sad to learn, amongst all the wonderful people who rallied for our son, and us, that the almighty dollar won out to the great Wells Fargo Bank. Enjoy your $1200; I hope the 5-course dinner you went to last night was worth

RE Fidelity Investments, DO NOT INVEST!! Shop the fund families elsewhere!!
I can say this about ALL so called "mutual fund" companies, most of which treat investors like dirt, but Fidelity is a "set and forget" company-- I have (soon NOT to have) more than $200K in their so called "funds" but ALL are mediocre to poor performers. In fact, most did not perform at all in their investment class and lost money big time. The "managers" did nothing to protect their funds in the free fall the market took for the last two years. They just let the fund values DUMP.
So how do they earn their huge bonuses? Sounds like political BS to me.
DO NOT EXPECT HELP WITH THIS ABYSMAL COMPANY. They spend huge amounts of money on mailings of literature but when you call them it's like trying to pull teeth-- they mail out about new investments the staff knows next to nothing about and can't answer simple questions about.

You can't track YOUR investments on line, you can only pull up the funds and check their performance in general, maybe because if you use Morningstar.com, you might actually see how bad their "funds" SUCK compared to the market in general.

Customer No Service Example: I called Fidelity three days before the April 15th date hoping to contribute non-IRA funds to an IRA, and I couldn't do it, they said they needed more time and had a basket full of BS excuses. So I couldn't even move MY non-IRA Fidelity fund money into an IRA, even one with Fidelity-- but I was able to do so elsewhere in another fund family, and it only took about an hour to do it!!
NEVER have I been contacted other than their continual shower of mailings. U have stayed with them way too long but can't afford to stay in this mediocre/poor fund family.
I needed help managing my funds and got NOTHING from Fidelity. I hate these f--n people.

Review Icon gelika reviewed TCF Bank in Banks:
If I had an option for ZERO stars, I would have chosen that!!!

We applied for a mortgage which was approved and we were told our interest rate was 4.75%, two days before closing the mortgage broker told us he misquoted us and our interest rate was going to be upped to 5.75%. Knowing we couldn't back out because we bought a bank owned home, we were stuck! Watch out, they do this at the last minute to get more commissions and when they know you can't back out.

We closed in June 2009. Next, we asked for statements so we could pay our bills online and nothing ever came in the mail. They didn't give us account numbers and when we called, they said they can't look up our a/c numbers without our a/c. I said, that is fine, I will give you my SSN and you can look it up that way. They can't do that either!!!! So finally I had to go into the branch store and have our Mortgage guy look up the a/c number for us to pay our mortgage. We had to call and speak today to someone in the branch but when you call 1-800-TCF BANK, they are NOT allowed to give you the phone number of the branch office when I asked why, the customer service rep stated that because we could "interrupt them when they are with a customer". EXCUSE ME!! What kind of customer service is that! The only way you can get their number is if you know someone that works there and they are willing to give you their number. PLEASE!!!!! So basically any time you need to speak to someone you MUST go into the branch to speak to someone. RIDICULOUS. Also, in July 2009 when it was time to pay our mortgage, they said they changed our a/c to have statements sent to us so we could pay that way. As of Oct. we still have yet to receive ANY mail from TCF with the exception of them wanting us to purchase their Mortgage Insurance. YEAH RIGHT!!! So, as of Nov. 2009 we still don't have statements to send our payment in, we MUST go into the branch and they still haven't gotten it corrected.
BEWARE - NEVER USE!!!!

For all those sanctimonious perfect people that like to complain about us whiners here is a story for you.

I had 2 accounts with Countywide bank that got switch to BOA. One of these was a money market and the other a CD. That switch happened months ago and I had no problems until I got a $10 service fee on the money market account this month. Never mind that I have never made a withdrawal on this account. Although I did carry a small balance through Countrywide this was permitted. Mind you I understand the concept of service fees but I never received any notification the protocols had changed.

Further more the CD had come due and renewed at a lousy interest rate. I never received a maturity notification of the CD and didn't receive the renewal notice until 3 weeks after it had happened.

After contacting BOA I got the situations corrected which only tells me that they were at fault. The $10 service fee was refunded and they allowed me to cash the CD without penalty.
My point here is that BOA neglected to send any notifications of changes in policy or renewal. Both of which cost their customers money and profit themselves. I expect the bean counters have figured how many people will just let it slide so they can rake in the cash.

Now I figure the "Better than everyone else idiots" would say that I should have known when that CD was due and they are probably correct but sometimes life gets in the way of the details. After all, isn't that what a maturity notice is for? To let people know just in case they haven't been keeping track.

So all of you magniloquent morons can get off your soap boxes and realize that not everyone is that far beneath you. Especially the bombastic bonehead that doesn't think we have a good understanding of the English language. I guess since you are so elevated in your communication skills I don't need to point out "bombastic" is an adjective meaning pompous!

This is a great place for stripped down banking. I would recommend it if you just want the basics without all the frills that other banks nickel and dime you for. That's why I'm there. I do have to admit that if you run into a problem or have a question, I would recommend you actually walk into the bank rather than phone into their customer service line. For me, that's only a minor inconvenience compared to being able to have a simple checking account without being charge for too many ATM withdrawls and whatnot.
