This is a big, old school hotel off the highway about 10 minutes in a car from downtown Austin. It was probably great in the early 80's - now it just feels kind of dated.

Free wifi in the lobby, but not in the rooms. There's clunky big old furniture in the room. Reasonably clean, not too expensive, and not a bad option if you are looking for a big, old school hotel off the highway.

Incredibly, ridiculously cool. I will stay here every time I come to Austin if I can. It's on South Congress right across from a bar where "southern culture on the skids" (a longtime favorite of mine) is playing live tonight. It has really nice rooms, and shared bath rooms (where I'm staying for sub $100). The attention to design detail is striking, there's a gorgeous little pool, the beer selection is obscure, there's free wifi, and the place is just really, really, well done.

Don't be fooled by the "motel" - this is a destination in a fantastic location.

This is a hipster hotel in Austin on South Congress. It's been redone over the years and celebrities like Sandra Bullock throw parties there.

Great customer service and safe operations. Beautiful coaches. Friendly and polite.

Oh...they moved to Hutto, near the Dell Diamond on Hwy 79.

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate the impending birth of our first child. The entire property was littered with trash (she called it "zeroscaping"). Can barely view the lake, pictures online use a telephoto lens to show the lake. The room we stayed in had a hole in the wall, and was generally dirty. The room we stayed in had a great view of a electric pole and electric wires. Breakfast was actually OK, but we only stayed 1 night, Robin had the nerve to actually charge us for both nights, said there was a 48 hr cancellation policy (we left because the place was a dump and was ruining our weekend, my wife actually cried Friday night that we had to go back to that hell hole to sleep). We spent the 2nd night at a local hotel, which was very nice, but not as special as we had hoped. Avoid like the plague. Certainly not worth the money.

Disorganised, unprofessional and be careful about giving out your credit card details. We cancelled a booking for the busy SXSW week in March 06 well in advance, (5 months) the managers admit they lost my details so without authority in Jan 06 they charged $719 to my VISA as a way of getting me to call them again from New Zealand. While they did refund the base amount there was no apology and no compensation for the $41 in foreign currency exchange and bank fees that I incurred. Except for one flat refusal they have ignored all communications regarding a full refund. My experience is that The Strickland Arms record keeping is sloppy and unprofessional, communication is poor. You should not assume that any booking made or cancelled is going to be actioned. Be very careful about giving your credit card information to managers.

Don't stay here! The staff is unfriendly and not helpful. Not worth the price or the trouble!

This is the only place to get charter bus quotes instantly and online. It's as easy to rent a bus in Austin, Texas on their site as it is to book hotel rooms on other reservation systems. They also let you compare pricing, pictures, and information from several charter bus service companies. Check 'em out.
