This story tells much about the art world. The financial part of it all is foolish, but illustrates the free market economy well. Art is worth what you are willing to pay for it. I would rather point to the spot over my couch and see something that I actually liked rather than something with snob appeal. To me, Jackson Pollock is nothing special. Is a Pollock a better, or more valuable, painting than one by Zippy the Chimp? Only if you like the way it looks.

I went to a chain restaurant (mistake #1). Listed as the soups of the day were chicken noodle and chili. Chicken noodle is no doubt going to be soup, but is the chili chili or chili soup? My inner optimist said " Oh boy! Chili!". Wrong! It was chili soup, runny, a few beans, alleged beef, and the rumour of chili powder. Totally bogus and enough to make an emotionally secure man shed real tears.
