I signed up for DISH NETWORK's service verbally agreeing to a 12 month contract during which time they were to provide the service for which I signed up for. From the beginning I have never received the channels I am paying for. In the past 10 months technicians have been out several times to correct the problems we are having as the signal is not strong enough. They have said there is nothing more that they can do. Techs have stated on two separate occasions that they should have never installed the equipment due to trees on the property blocking the signal.
I am still ony getting about 1/4 of the channels I am paying for. I called today to cancel the service and spoke to supervisor Natalie (operator ID DE8) who stated I will owe $140 cancellation fee as I agreed to a 24 month contract. I explained I agreed to 12 months not 24 months and I also never signed a contract. She said who ever was there at the time of the install signed it. My mother was the one who was there and she asked the tech what the paperwork was for and he said it's stating he was there and completed the install. Natalie says "Who signs something without reading it?" My mother said she did read through it and nowhere did it say anything about a contract. Natalie said it was in bold letters at the bottom and said she could send me a copy of the contract. I specifically asked for a copy of the SIGNED one and she said she could not provide that. I then went on to say "your website says a contract is not always required, so you have this 'contract language' in all of your install papers you have people sign even though they're not supposed to be entering one?" She said, "Yes".
In addition to her being very poor in the customer service department she also stated that there is signal and regardless of whether we are getting ALL the channels we are supposed to, we are getting some so they are upholding their end of the deal. She also said the technician did not note that the install should have never taken place, therefore the cancellation fee stands. I said "Look through the history at the number of times you've had to send someone out because signal was lost and look at the times you've had to credit the bill because we had no service what-so-ever!!" She had nothing to say to that.
She then went on to say that I'll have to send back all of the equipment including the "eye" from the satellite. I explained there are two and she said, "Well which one are you using?" I'm like "both! And one is on the roof! You expect me to climb up on the roof to remove this thing when your own tech said it should have never been installed?!" She again said yes and if I wanted a tech to come out and do it I would be charged $99.
Another bogus charge, no surprise there.
So not only are they trying to hold me to a contract I never agreed to or signed, they can't provide me with a copy of this "legal contract". Plus, they expect me to climb on my roof to remove the equipment that never should have been put there. Upon the initial install they also mounted a pole on the roof that they did not end up using and never removed.
Two people I know were going to sign up with them until they heard this, my hope is that no one else does as it sounds like I am not the only with issues with them. Their company does bad business and tries to use non-existent contracts to get money out of people.
BAD COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH
I have filed a Better Busness Bureau complaint and I only hope if there are enough of them that maybe someone will either make this company operate a legit business or shut them down all-together.
