I started working at Forever 21 a few weeks ago, and had I know just how terribly they treat their employees, I would have never applied. If it wasn't for the economy I would be putting in my two weeks today. On Tuesday got very bad food poisoning and called to let one of the managers know I wouldn't be able to go in the next day. The manager working at the time was incredibly upset at the news, and that set the tone for the rest of the phone conversation, where she told me I had a responsibility to be there. Although I find food poisoning to be quite the riot, I figured potentially throwing up on a customer was a huge no no. Before hanging up I asked about having been scheduled during hours I had listed on my availability sheet as not being available (mouthful). The manager on the phone became absolutely furious, and said "If you don't come in when we tell you to come in you will be fired." I'm a full-time student, and that is why my availability is what it is. Apparently that does not matter to the managers. I managed to get my hours changed upon finally calling the store at the right time and talking to the manager no one would put me through to begin with.
I'm not sure if many of you know (I certainly didn't), but not too long ago Forever 21 had a lawsuit on their hands for running sweatshops. It is not a great environment to work in, nor a great one to shop in. I apologize for rude employees, and while many may not have ever learned any manners, the others are probably just upset with the way they are being treated and overworked.
