I'm rating this because I've attended Devry Online and on campus and now I regret it. I will give a fair review.
The Good
I attended Devry because I got laid off and I needed a degree fast so that I could jump onto the market again. This is the good thing. They have classes that are well suited for any schedule from Online, Night classes, to Day classes. This allowed my schedule to be extremely flexible.
The other good part is the amount of time I can graduate. On a full time schedule, a typical student will be able to graduate within 2-3 years depending on the program. That is great!
The Bad.
If you're going for a premium education, guess again. Like a double edged sword, the fast paced education comes at a price. The teachers have experience in their field of expertise but, what many people don't observe, is that they are not teachers!! It's all scripted from the lessons, to the discussions, even the reading. when I say scripted, I mean that once you see the assignment, you go in read that part, babble on in the discussions, and you get full points. I rarely opened up my text book. There are some instructors that take their job too seriously but you'll get by. Am I a 4.0 student, no, but I do maintain a 3.5. Ever since Devry started using the e-college platform, they started using this as well on campus. So it may seem nice that your on campus course can also be accessed online but it just detracts from the learning because EVERYTHING IS OPEN BOOK.
Cost was a major ache in my stomach. I have a $70,000 loan I will owe once I graduate. let me spell that out for you SEVENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS PLUS INTEREST. I think applicants do not understand the debt they are about to enter. This is a CORPORATE led education system, so please think about where all of your money is going. I just found out that Devry paid out $295 million for Apollo College!!!!!! THINK ABOUT WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING!!!
I'm sorry to have to say this, but having Devry on my degree is just embarrasing. Like another person said, it looks better to have a public state university on your degree than a college where you pay loads of money for a piece of paper. I went to community college before and you literally have to bust your butt with the reading materials, assignments, and note taking. And just to make it clear, I HAD TO choose Devry because of the current economic situation we're in. I don't have time for community college and then state university.
