HOUSING SCAM

UNITECH (a blue-chip, ISO-9002 certified one at that) has been getting away for years (at least ten in my personal experience) by committing every conceivable offence a real estate developer can possibly be accused of , and defrauding the public of thousands of crores every year – instead of providing them a home .

It is all too easy for Unitech’s CEO and MD to boast about how well their company is doing when they want to lure investors, and to portray themselves as victims of the recession whenever the press reports on Unitech’s deprived house-buyers rising up in arms. Yet, the company is launching new housing projects all the time, and either not starting work on older ones or stopping work midway. This is certainly not a recent phenomenon: Unitech has been illegally and unjustly raising ‘additional charges’ against my elderly father and me amounting to more than Rs. 9 lakhs (!) for a 12 lakh flat which we are still waiting for them to complete and hand over - it was scheduled for 2002 . This, despite our having paid Unitech 95% of the total cost of the incomplete flat as far back as 2002.

Only harsh punitive action against Unitech’s directors could act as a strong deterrent to their brazen corruption, and in some small way redeem thousands of victims whose cases against Unitech continue to pile up in consumer and civil courts, the MRTP Commission etc. And the thousands of others who suffer in silence because they see no solution in sight.

Review Icon minkey reviewed The Wrestler in Drama:
He said it best at the end, when you live a hard life and party hard, you find yourself a pretty lonely guy. All he knew at that point was the wrestling and he chose it and the party over establishing a relationship with his daughter and a woman. He was a likeable guy who was very self-aware, and somewhat humble, but he couldn't choose a steady life over what he knew best. I met a boxer who was like this guy, who's in his upper 40's and now works as an exterminator. He had won some middleweight championships and had some national fame, and without any education or real skills, he retired and un-retired several times, losing badly, but just trying to re-gain some form of the life he had. It's a sad way to live, closing bars every night hoping someone will recognize you so you can take your belts out the trunk of your car and show some photographs, waking up the next day to the reality that it's never going to come back.

Review Icon irishgit reviewed Gettysburg in Drama:
I don't have the same intensity of distaste for this that oscar does, but the fact remains it isn't a very good movie from an acting standpoint, although Sam Elliott puts in a competent performance as Buford. From a cinematographic standpoint, its pretty good, and the use of Civil War re-enactor hobbyists for the troops and battle scenes was very effective.

And its only fair to note that compared to its god awful sequel "Gods and Generals" this is The Seven Samurai.
