Bottled Water (Yisman)
A list of bottled water brands certainly doesn't make for very
compelling reading. And few among us is gifted enough to taste
the difference between any of the brands. But at a
time when the world is divided about a hotly contested presidential election,
there's something comforting about sounding off on how you
feel about Aquafina.
ATVs (widgeon)
We're not sure who widgeon is, why he/she came here, and if they
will ever come back. But if you are in the market for an ATV, it makes sense to check this list out first.
2003's
Dead Celebrities (zuchinibut)
We bought zuchinibut's 2004
list already. May as well grab 2003 as well. And if Zuchinibut makes
a 2005 list, there's a good chance we'll buy that one
too.
Bible
Characters (drbanner)
With religion and faith playing an important role in politics
and culture around the world, it's time RateItAll got with the program. drbanner's Bible Characters is a good place to
start.
Game Show Hosts
(cromulance)
Game Show Hosts are a special breed and perfect for a
WebList. Cromulance does an excellent job with this quirky and
complicated profession, leading at least on RIA staffer to
speculate if Cromulance is in fact a game show host. Regardless,
this list is worth a read if you haven't
checked it out already.
August, 2004
United States
Senators (adamahill)
No explanation needed - the absense of a RateItAll topic on US
Senators is a glaring weakness.
Best
Guitarist of All Time (PzKpfw_VI_E)
There are number of guitar related WebLists on this site, but
PzK's is by far the most thorough and populated. Plus, it's only fair. On a day when several of PzK's military lists were
deleted for being duplicates, it's nice to see this guy get some recognition for his contributions to the community.
Roman Emperors
(Enkidu)
A veritable Roman Emperor in the RateItAll Community himself,
the irony of Enkidu being recognized for his Roman Emperor WebList should be
lost on noone. Enkidu's legacy lives on. And yes, that first
sentence was poorly structured.
Turn-Ons (minkeydude)
RateItAll is glad to hear that minkeydude has successfully
relocated to the Bay Area. We can only hope that this $10 stipend
is helpful in contributing to any disorderly conduct fines
he may have racked up celebrating the Red Sox win at the Bus Stop.
What
Does it Mean to be Patriotic (Person with
Comment)
We're not a huge fan of question-based WebLists, but this one
flat out works. If you haven't seen it already, there is some excellent discussion in this list as to what it means to be
patriotic.
July, 2004
Cosmetics (Castlebee)
There are lots of good reasons to choose Castlebee's Cosmetics
list for Buy Back. It fills a gap in RIA's Health & Beauty
index. It's a thorough, well-researched list. There's lots of
quality reviews. But the biggest reason has nothing to do with any of
these - since launching this WebList, Bee has been under constant attack from
Mary Kay cosmetics reps, who think Bee is a major North American
distributor. Somebody had to take the heat off. Castlebee, we got
your back.
Baby
Formula (Twinmom101)
After several years of intense study and numerous focus
groups, the RateItAll market research team has informed RIA management that many
people do in fact have babies. Some of these babies eat (drink?)
formula. Thus, Baby Formula is a topic with potentially wide appeal.
Time to move this list to prime time.
Chief
Justices (Redoedo)
A quality, important WebList that thankfully, will not have to
be updated very often. We find that appealing.
Newspaper
Sections (MissPackRat)
If somebody were keeping score (which they're not), it would
appear that MissPackRat has won more Buy Backs than any other RIA member.
Does that make MPR the greatest WebLister in history? Is the sky
blue?
Best
/ Worst Reasons to get Divorced (Jaws)
Sadly, this is another topic with potentially wide appeal.
Some heartfelt posts in this WebList make for some compelling reading,
however. Congrats to Jaws to getting on the Buy Back board.
June, 2004
Ways to Motivate Employees (minkeydude)
Minkedude finally gets on the board with a WebList introduced
with the immortal words, "My boss is a Dick." No offense Minkey, but we
may, uh, massage the language a little bit when we bring it over to
primetime. Great WebList.
Flame Warriors (by Mike Reed) (kamylienne)
Holy smokes what an effort by Kamylienne. Not only does
she find brilliant content on the Web that's relevant to the good folks of RIA,
but she contacts the creator of the series to make sure that it's OK to
reproduce as a WebList. This is one of our favorite WebLIsts to date.
Hysterically funny, and I think most of us can recognize RIA regulars in these
characters.
How to take a relationship to the next level
(sperryc)
The "next level" can be a terrifying concept for many people.
Sperryc expertly manages to broach this uncomfortable subject with class and humor. Did anyone catch the
images used to enhance this WebList? Our personal favorite is the
Pet Names picture.
Awwwwwwwww.....
Characters from M*A*S*H (MissPackRat)
MissPackRat is starting to make some noise on the WebList front
once again. When inspired, there is no more formidable WebLister on RIA
than MPR.
Last Words of Famous People (Enkidu)
As usual, Enkidu provides a little, much-needed intellectual je
ne sais quoi with this quirky WebList. Is it possible to script your last
words? If you're able to pull it off, you may make Enkidu's list.
May, 2004 WebList Buy Back Winners
Disney Characters (Freebird_0128)
Freebird_0128 is rapidly emerging as an elite WebList creator,
and is taking full advantage of the tools available to her. This Disney
oriented list is accurate, well researched, and boasts descriptions and images
that enhance the list nicely. No wonder this WebList has seen a lot of
traffic.
Browsers (aiwachica)
We haven't heard much from aiwachica in recent months, but her
legacy lingers on. Still the site's resident expert on software and networking,
aiwachica has put her finger on a pretty hot area of the Internet. The
browser wars are heating up, and Internet Explorer is no longer the only game in
town.
State Flags (excelsior30)
Another excellent example of a WebList that is enhanced with
images. Excelsior takes what is admittedly a boring subject (State Flags),
and turns it into a riveting, page-turner through his use of WebLister image
upload tools. This WebList is the "Hot or Not" of State Flags.
Voice Actors (ClassicTVFan47)
Love him or hate him, the maniacally wholesome ClassicTVFan47 is
an RIA institution. With his Voice Actors WebList, CTV courageously moves
away from his Pokemon comfort zone to create a list with broad
appeal.
Seinfeld Characters (RebelYell1861)
RebelYell1861 effectively utilizes a classic WebListing 101
tactic - choose a popular TV program and list out its main characters.
Almost invariably, a WebList created using this formula will generate some
buzz. Say what you may about the WebList's lack of images and descriptions
- RebelYell1861 is getting paid.

Advertising Campaigns (Kamylienne)
It’s about time that Kamylienne got some recognition from
RateItAll. While Kamylienne’s personal beliefs prevent her from adding
images and item descriptions, she has accumulated a substantial list of major
advertising campaigns, with tons of data. Deservedly, this WebList
consistently ranks among the highest traffic WebLists.
Florida’s Best Beach Desinations (jaxbeaches)
Perhaps the greatest evangelist for Jacksonville, FL to
ever roam the net, jaxbeaches got off to a shaky start on RIA with a relentless
stream of requests for Jacksonville related landmarks. Once the WebList
feature was introduced, jaxbeaches was able to able to bypass those
anti-Jacksonville RIA administrators completely, and build his own Jacksonville
billboards including this well crafted WebList. Viva
Jacksonville!
Most Influential People in History (Redoedo)
Another timeless, well-researched classic from Redoedo.
Not sure how we missed this WebList last month.
2004’s Dead Celebrities… Who have you mourned the most? (Zuchinibut)
A little on the morbid side, but we like the idea using RIA to
document the lives and contributions of those in the public eye.
Celebrity Couples Past and Present (Freebird_0128)
Freebird has been flirting with a WebList Buy Back nod the last
couple of months, and finally hit pay dirt with this tabloid-esque homage to
celebrity relationships. Who will be the most hated celebrity
couple? We can’t wait to watch the data roll in...
March, 2004 WebList Buy Back Winners
American Idol 3 Contestants (iluvjoshjackson99)
In a shocking turn of events, iluvjoshjackson99 has matched her
nemesis Irishgit's Buy Back totals by putting together a juggernaut of a list
built around the popular reality show of the same name. Descriptions, images,
massive Google-driven traffic - if there was a runaway WebList of the month,
this was it my friends. This was it.
Best Guys Haircuts (HtL)
This was an odd one. HtL has not left any ratings, and has only
created one WebList. It almost appears that his sole purpose for visiting RIA
was to create a WebList on haircuts. And what a WebList it is. Funny pictures,
cool sounding haircuts that we've never seen nor heard of - this had to be a
winner. And most importantly, at long last it gives RIA the excuse of adding the
mythical Mullet to the site.
James Bond Movies (VirileVagabond)
Not much to say here. VirileVagabond does his WebLists right.
Great topics, well-written descriptions, and quality images. We're starting to
think the dashing VV IS James Bond.
Famous Trios (MissPackRat)
Quietly, and without a lot of fanfare, MissPackRat has been
making a power play of epic proportions on RIA. At any given time, she (not he!)
will have two or three WebLists dominating the hottest WebLists section. When
MissPackRat is rolling, don't mess with her (as properly chastised administrator
Lawrence found out).
Greek
Gods (PBeavr)
Another fantastic WebList from the man that brought us
"Sexually Transmitted Diseases" - the WebList that
is. PBeavr could make a quality WebList in his sleep. In fact, given the amount
of WebLists he has made, that may be what he's doing. Additional speculation
about what PBeavr does in his sleep is ill-advised.

Winners
Actions and Initiatives of George W. Bush
(Redoedo)
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Redoedo was among
the inaugural list of winners. The site's resident prodigy (and nice guy)
not only leaves great comments, but also makes great WebLists. Things we
liked about this list were its accuracy, stability, timeliness, and
detail. Redoedo, we expect great things from you. But in the
meantime, keep making WebLists :)
College Football Coaches (All-Time) (PBeavr)
Another one of the site's more prolific reviewers, PBeavr makes
full use of tools available to him in making his... errrrr... interesting
WebLists. Images, well-written descriptions, links - PBeavr could teach a
class on WebListing. And what an interesting class that would
be. PBeavr's College Football Coaches WebList was an easy choice.
Exhaustive detail, a popular and stable topic, and a potentially wide audience
make this a no-brainer. Furthermore, this topic is appropriate for ALL
audiences (hint, hint).
English Monarchs (Irishgit)
Irishgit's English Monarchs WebList shows that in some highly
unusual cases, you don't need to write descriptions and add images and links to
be a winner. How can this be, you ask? How can Irishgit win with
this WebList that is missing some key pieces? Let's just call it the luck
of the Irish. And some good timing. With a rowdy Brit contingent
constantly hassling Lawrence about RateItAll's North American bias, the timing
was right to select a UK centred (note the spelling) WebList. Things that
we liked about this list are its accuracy, its stability, and its international
flava (flavor for you Brits).
James
Bond Girls (VirileVagabond)
Say what you want about VV's Encyclopedia-esque knowledge (and
writing style), this reviewer clearly understands the value of relevant facts
and microscopic detail. James Bond Girls was the ONLY list to be nominated
by another reviewer - a telling sign, indeed. If you haven't had a chance
to check out VV's WebLists and comments, do so now. They actually make you
smarter.
Child
Actors (CastleBee)
No RateItAll list would be complete without the influence and
majesty of CastleBee. Living up to her reputation as RateItAll Royalty,
CastleBee created one of the first great WebLists with her list of Child
Actors. Pictures, descriptions, plenty of data - what's not to love?
(except, perhaps, child actors
themselves) |
