I'm a 21 year old girl from Barkhamsted, Connecticut/United States
About me: I work at a kennel full time and love animals! I have 2 dogs, 4 cats and 4 ferrets. I've worked at a pet store and am knowledgeable about most animals, drop a line if you have a question. If I cannot answer it I can certainly try and point you in the right direction.

I've been feeding this for the past month and really like the way my doggies have taken to it. Jasmine has put on a good weight and is nice and shinny. Lucian LOVES this and gobbles it down as fast as he can. I like the Grasslands variety of the new line, as is has the best line up of ingredients. The nutrionalist I work with recommends this over other kibble. (And she is VERY picky)

I have since changed from this food as it is now made by Diamond, which out sources a number of there ingredients.

I have been feeding Orijen and Acana, which the dogs and cats REALLY like.

I have not had any water leakage. I have a 1990 wolfburg. It does not have a sunroof, so no problems there. The windows are manual, so no shorting out. As for the Trunk we've never had any water in there, but the seals around the doors should be replaced, they don't seal all the way, but even without a complete seal we've never had water come in there either, i'm not rally sure why we haven't done it yet. I have heard about a number of cars that have seal problems with their sunroofs, not just VW. A very easy fix, and the rubber seals are fairly cheap, and you can get them for any area that needs a new seal. That should fix you leaking problem.

All the previous foods you fed are just as bad and if not worse food. By products are all the things that cannot be used in our food, why would you give it to your pet? Not only that its not not the true first ingredient since it is mostly moisture. That makes CORN the first ingredient. Dogs cannot, will not, will NEVER be able to digest this, and means that your giving your pet mainly something they cannot get any nutritional value from, and does cause allergic reactions. Chicken, while being the 3rd ingredient, is not actually so, as it is mainly made up of moisture, and looses its place as being the true 3rd ingredient. Beet pulp, you said yourself is a by-product. No nutritional value. Yeast is a bacteria. GOOD JOB. Molasses is sugar, has no nutritional value for a carnivore, iron should be found in a meat product. Whole eggs should be used, not product, as this could mean just the shells, and again no nutritional value. Salt should be found in meat product as well, added salt is not needed. Added vitamin's and preservatives.

YUMM *GAG*

Your dog got fat from too much sugar content, that would be the molasses FYI. Speciality foods? from the vets? do you mean prescription foods? Those were the only thing available 30 years ago, they now have something called RAW if you can't find a kibble dog food that they do well on.

Glad to hear merrick is working out for you! I am also happy to hear that even after such a large vet bill she is doing good. Most people don't realize that all dogs are different and good quality foods are important, and trying many, if not all of them to find the right fix for your dog is of even greater importance.

kudos

lots of wagging tails and sloppy kisses from my dogs to yours

For how long did you feed? I'm also wondering if you just suddenly switched their diet? Dogs need a month of mixing current food with new food and then a few month's to adjust to the new food. You may find more benefit from feeding merrick's Before Grain, as opposed to their "average" Merrick.

I'm excited to say that the food order at my work finally came in! I work at a kennel and this food is available to me at a lower price then at the store. I really like the ingredients in this particular version of Canidae. I'm not enthralled about the rest of the line, but they are much better then most food out their. Lucian, my picky eater, took to this food right away. He really seemed to enjoy it. Jasmine liked this food as well, and ate it all up within 5 minutes, a record for her. (she was food shy when we first got her and would take individual kibbles away to eat) I will be commenting weekly as to how both of my dogs do on this food, and for now my rating will remain at 5 star!

This food is a very poor choice of food to feed.

This website will explain everything to you, and help find a suitable food to feed. I wouldn't choose anything below a 4 star. Do look up which products have had a food recall, as that is the only thing the site has neglected to add since the scare.

Wow. Not only are you adding to the animal over population your refering people to a disgusting food poor with nutritional values. There are a number of things in this food that are allergens to dog, and cancer causing preservatives. Dog food has changed in the 44 years that you've been showing. Showing dogs makes you in no way knowledgeable on proper feeding. Most brands supported by dog shows are improper food to be feeding, but everything is sponsored, money buys anything obviously.

Dog food (kibble) should be mixed with water WHILE feeding. This not only gives your dog the missing moisture but prevents bloat. Bil jack doesn't break down, it turns into a paste. Not very appetising.

There are many good foods that were not part of the food scare. Orijen, Canidae, Blue wilderness, Innova, Instinct, just to name a few.

You neglected to mention what the other food you were feeding was, during your "experiment"

Anything you can buy in a supermarket is a BAD food to feed.

You are not a nutritionalist, please stop giving the advice to people when you are showing, and please don't breed dogs and feed this crap to them.

This is the biggest part of finding a groomer and keeping them happy. If they understand that you understand how the dog behaves when they're there, its ok if they're not the greatest behaved dog.

They can also give you a better estimate of how much it's going to cost you, because the longer it takes, the more brushing, the more stopping, the more money.
