They already have a Chess Olympiad. The Soviet Union always used to win them hands down. It's a little more interesting now. For those who don't think it's a sport, try playing in a tournament. It can be quite physically taxing, which is why the best players stay in physical shape.

Sure why not. I'd very much enjoy this as an Olympic sport, the only purely intellectual one. However, I guess the argument could then be made to have every game from checkers to Twister up for medals.
