The Rocks is the site where, in 1788, England’s first ships landed, carrying convicts to this penal colony. While its original buildings have been washed away, housing from the Victorian era still survive today. The historical importance of the area was not truly appreciated until the 1980’s, with restoration projects. The Rocks is also filled with pubs, shops and museums.
