Camping usually involves hiking in my experience. So having clean socks after walking all day is a must. There is also the chance of rain or walking in water, so an extra pair of socks is a great idea.

Extra socks don't take much room, but if the grass is wet or dewy and your feet get damp, you will remember old Genghis kindly when you bask in the luxury of dry socks!
