Pantene is terrible for your hair. That stuff is strong enough to clean an oven. It's way to strong ffor anyones hair. Whenever I used to use it it made my hair dry and not healthy. Don't use pantene.

Pantene is terrible for your hair. Sure it gives you the "illusion" of healthy hair, but thats all it is. Pantene coats your hair with wax, which controls frizz, flyaways, etc. Ask any stylist or salon professional, they will tell you the same, Pantene is absolutely terrible for your hair, you'd be better off using something super cheap, like a .99 bottle of White Rain. And as a former Nail tech, I can tell you that it has acetone in it. Acetone is dangerous, you are not supposed to have it in contact with your skin for too long because it will damage your skin, women who have soaked their acrylic nails in acetone in order to remove them, have had damage to the tips of their fingers resulting in loss of feeling and sensation, you can't breathe the fumes from acetone, it will get you high, and perhaps kill you, probably not, unless it's a lot of inhaling, but definitely kills a few brain cells. Now can you really imagine that this would be good for your hair?i mean this is your hair people, you have to live with this, and we all know women focus a great deal on their hair, isn't it worth spending a little more money, and little care as to what you are putting in your hair?

I've always had great hair after washing and conditioning with Pantene. However, after reading about some of the other users experiences with hair loss, I think I'll stop using it!
darshi_p 04/13/2006
makes my naturally wavy and rough hair smooth and straighter.. however after continues use it builds up and causes more dryness...i tired to clear the buildup by using another shampoo once a mth..but it didnt work..my hair was still dry...and using pantene would nto make it smooth nemore! i would not recommend it.

I have been using Pantene for about 10 years now and I love it. I use the purple or the gold bottles and they are great for my hair. I can not use any other brand of conditoner. Everything else either dries my hair out or doesn't get the tangles out. I have tried every brand that wal-mart carries and nothing works as well as Pantene. I have even used salon conditioners and even they can't get my hair as soft and shiny as pantene. I have never had any split ends and when I go to the hairstylist they ask me what I use because they can't believe hair as long and thick as mine could be that soft and shiny.

I have been using Pantene products for ten years with increasingly great results as the line expands. I am just over 50 years old and recently had surgery that caused significant hair loss. Hair vitamins from the beginning of loss put a quick end to that (within two weeks). I gotta say that I have NO idea why people are dissing Pantene but it has been fabulous for me throughout the years and the new Restorative line is indeed restoring my hair from whatever damage I've incurred thru dyeing and too much ceramic ironing. In fact, after three uses I have found I don't even need to use the ceramic iron anymore! I think the key is don't wash your hair everyday. I have gone from oily hair in my younger years (HAD TO wash almost everyday) to more dry hair (due to aging and dietary changes -- not product) and with the Restorative anti-frizz line, I get away with washing my hair twice a week at most. So I can only speak for me ... I can't say you're not telling the truth by dissing Pantene (I'm not even saying you work for TreSemme! LOL) ... But FOR ME, washing, conditioning, and "seruming" 1-2x a week with the Restorative anti-frizz line is FANTASTIC!! I honestly couldn't be happier with this product if I was reaping a profit from its marketing!

I've been reading posts on here for quite a while and typically really appreciate the information given, but noticed some poor information that I think is not fair. Anyone here who thinks that Pantene has wax or acetone in it really should go back to high school chemistry class. Almost all of the Pantene shampoos and conditioners do have silicone in them, but they by no means contain wax or anything waxlike. Silicones are used in everything from skin care products to soaps to hair products and are incredibly safe materials that can really add smoothness and softness to hair and skin. The information that we get from hairdressers should really be taken with the understanding that almost all of them have about as much business talking about chemistry as my garbage man. These stylists are great doing hair, but how many of them ever passed a high school chemistry class, or ever thought about going to college. Net, while there are many Pantene products I personally can’t use don’t lump them altogether and say they are all bad. If you notice they make specific versions for all different hair types, so most likely if you chose right, you’ll like what they deliver. My hair is incredibly curly and the new Frizz Control conditioner is the only product I have ever tried that can tame my frizz. Amy

Hello ladies, I have been using this product for over 12 years and YES, my hair is thinning and falling out and I've been freaking out. My hair is down to the middle of my back and I can no longer part it the way I used to because of the thinness and you can see my scalp...yikes! NOT GOOD!!! I've gone and bought all the hair vitamins, flaxseed oil and the best shampoo I could find, Aveda, all natural ingredients. Hopefully I will notice a difference soon. Not only my hair, but my brothers, my mothers and my daughters. I would also strongly recommend you go home and THROW IT ALL AWAY!!!! DO IT NOW!!! These products suck, I don't know how they stay in business. If I could sue, I would.

I use pantene frizz defence. It is amazing! My hair always used to be dry and frizzy, now it is smooth and VERY shiny!!!
maDoNnaWave 01/03/2006
well I have wAvY hair myself...its extremely thick and coarse, and realllll frizzy. I used the pantene for normal hair, pantene smooth and sleek, and pantene hydrating curls. Well the best one I have used was hydratimg curls, b/c it left my wavy frizzy hair somewhat better. But when my mom got me Biotera from a salon store. It was a blessing from god! its about $9 for the conditioner, but my hair is now sooo soft, my waves are defined better then ever before, and theres a LOT less frizz. I still use a little gel, but my hair is better then ever. My split ends are soo much better too. Honestly, Biotera, if you leave it in your hair for 20 min or more, its a gift from god.

LADIES LET ME TELL YOU, I HAVE ALWAYS HAD LONG BEAUTIFUL HAIR, YEARS AGO I STARTED USING PANTENE, AND OVER THE YEARS I NOTICES A SLOW LOSS OF HAIR. IT IS NOW TEN YEARS LATER AND I AM HEARING FOR THE FIRST TIME HOW PANTENE IS AWFUL FOR YOUR HAIR, COATES THE HAIR WITH WAX WHICH BREAKS FROM THE INSIDE OUT, ACETONE WHICH DRY AND CAUSES HAIR LOSS OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET TO FIND MORE OUT ABOUT IT, AND THE MORE I READ THE MORE SCARED I GET. GO HOME THROW AWAY ALL OF YOUR PANTENE PRODUCTS, BEFORE LONG YOU WILL BE LOSING CLUMOS OF HAIR AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SHOWER, LIKE I HAVE. BEWARE!!!!!!!YOUR HAIR WILL BE GREASY, SPLIT ENDS AND A LOT LESS OF IT WILL PRESENT BEFORE TOO LONG! Janine

ok, my 2-star "bad" rating only applies to the shampoo, because i find the conditioner to be pretty helpful. i had used the conditioner once at my mother-in-law's house and really liked it. i only condition the ends of my hair, not the scalp, and it left my hair smooth and shiny. after that, i wanted to buy some, so i bought the daily moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. i used this shampoo ONCE, a week ago, and there is STILL a wax buildup on my scalp that makes it look like i haven't washed my hair in months, even though i've tried washing it out with other shampoos every day since then. i'm going to the salon today to see if they can do something to get it out.
Cliogirl 09/17/2005
I have always avoided Pantene because I thought it would make my fine hair too soft. However I gave the Thick and Full range a try. I just use the shampoo not conditioner. I like the way it lathers and my hair feels clean when I rinse it. I also use the Secret Support styling gel to blow dry with and so far I have found it great. I feel like I have lots of body in my hair and it looks healthy.I wash my hair every other day and by the second day my hair usued to feel very lifeless but so far I haven't noticed this with Pantene. My concern reading other reviews is that people have said their hair starts to fall out with continued use and I cant afford to lose much! However I have noticed more hair loss using VO5 and Elvive so aren't they all much the same really! Anyway will keep you posted as to how I get on with it.
rateitgal7 07/16/2005
I just tried thermasilk and it was SO much better. Pantene was good, but then I found a lot of buildup in my hair, so I quit. It's okay to use it occasionally, I suppose, but use a clarifying shampoo with this. It leaves buildup. But in the time when it worked well, it left my hair soft, but I heard it has wax and acetone, so I quit.
vertagogo 07/16/2005
A few products in the Pantene line were suggested to me by two salon stylists. The first thing I tried was the Moisture Renewal Overnight Repair Treatment. I woke up then and have several times since to some really good hair. Shiny, soft, definitely more manageable. In my opinion it's as good as my staple regularly used Redken All Soft conditioner. The price is pretty too.
tritty 06/25/2005
I work in a professional salon only hair care store and have to know the differences between cheaper supermarket brands and more higher priced salon brands. all shampoos contain silicons, the only difference, pantene and other cheap shampoos are full of oil based silicons which coat the hair causing breakage from the inside out. salon shampoos have water based silicon which does make the hair shiny but does not coat the hair and it allows the the hair's cuticles to open and let any treatments penetrate into the hair and this prevents breakage (if using a correct treatment).
singsplatsing 02/20/2005
It's way too rich. Unless your scalp is super dry and your hair is fried like crazy, do not use it.
Blondie814 12/13/2004
The buildup on my hair due to extensive use of this product was something that cannot be described in words. My cosmetologist discovered the wax on the ends of my hair. After asking about which products I use, she finally deduced that it was due to the Pantene products. Since I switched product lines, my hair looks the best it has in years!
MandyK83 12/05/2004
I can't believe how many people use this product, after how many tests prove how bad this stuff is for your hair. I watch people's hair fall apart, after using this stuff. Its NOT normal to have split ends. I've noticed that people who use Pantene and like it don't seem to notice how bad their hair getting!
mahogany 11/28/2004
WARNING!! I was just at the hair stylist getting my hair cut and she told me some very interesting info on pantene. What it does is strip your hair with wax. The full and thick shampoo just places more wax on to make it feel more thick. The reason why lots of people buy this product is they like the shine. Well, the shine is all the wax and by the end of the day your hair is oily. Just to check it out, I bought a sample size and tried it out. My hair was oily and I just wanted to take another shower to wash it out! Their motto should be waxier hair in 10 days...guarenteed.
Roxychick86 11/07/2004
I've been using pantene for about two years and it used to work good, now it sucks! it's giving my a million split ends, my hair is split end city. I hate it! don't use this!!!
peanutbuttercu p 11/04/2004
I have been using Pantene for quite sometime. A friend who is a cosmetologist told me that it is really great. But recently I got my hair done from another beauty salon and two stylists told me to go home and throw all of it away! They told me the reason it makes your hair soft is that it has a perm solution in the ingredient and if you don't put a neutralizer on it like you do with a perm in time your hair will dry out and break off. Also that it contains acetone(like in nailpolish). I read the ingredients but I cannot see any of this. One is a long word(can;t pronounce) Has anybody heard of this?? I love this product but I won't use it anymore if this is what's in it.
DonnaJ 08/26/2004
I have used Pantene shampoo and creme rinse for quite awhile now and it really does make my hair feel so soft and alive...Considering I bleach my hair blonde..At my age I need all the help I can get ha ha ha
wetsack 08/05/2004
I am suffering from a receeding hairline, and have noticed certain shampoos make a huge difference on the fullness, and body of my hair. I use Pantene full and thick, and could not be happier with the outcome. It makes it seem that I have twice the hair, and it's not frizzy
CollegeGirl7 06/24/2004
I used Pantene from 10th grade up until my Junior year in college. It worked well for a while, but I had to change products because my hair started thinning. I think that if you alternate shampoos and conditioners, it helps. Pantene DID make my hair softer and silkier, though. Now I'm currently using Garnier Fructise. (Nice change) :-D
Miriam23 04/17/2004
I have been using Pantene Smooth and Sleek for over two years now and I love it. It has made my hair soft and extremely silky and has even restored my hair after a perm. I understand the difficulties that people above have had with washing the product out of the hair completely, especially when using the conditioner. Pantene conditioner is extremely heavy. However, the buildup problem can be solved if you first condition your hair and then shampoo the conditioner out. The benefits of the conditioner will be left in your hair, but you will not be left with a string/greasy look. If this technique does not completely resolve the buildup problem for you, then just try adding a little vinegar to the shampoo (white vinegar if you are a blonde and balsamic if you are a brunette) and use this combination to wash out the conditioner.

pantene makes my hair soft and smooth. it gets the frizz out better than other shampoos.i still have little friz but not as much,it really helps my hair.''''

I absolutely love the "Hydrating Curls" line. I use the 2-in-1 product, and I love it. it really leaves my hair shiny (which is a blessing for curly hair) and leaves it tough and my curls refined. I have tried so many products and I am so glad I found Pantene.
kamylienne 05/13/2003
I have thick, long black hair that reaches all the way down to my lower back, and though I'm not that picky with shampoo & conditioner, I find that Pantene really does do a lot for me. It's not a fix-all, one-use-and-you'll-have-movie-star-hair thing like it seems to portray in its commercials, but that's what commercials do. It's a little overpriced, but sometimes it's worth a little indulgence. I've never had any gripes with it (I'm surprised to hear that it has caused that--luckily, I seemed to have escaped that fate) other than it being overpriced.
madamebutterfl y 05/03/2003
It's not horrible it's not great. It's a great alternative though for people that can't afford salon products...
blinded99 03/10/2003
I use the Pantene Smooth and Sleek conditioner and absolutely love it. It leaves my hair soft, smooth and shiny.
Pantenebabe 01/31/2003
I have extremely long, thick, corse hair. Pantene conditioner makes it incredibly managable and shiny. It really does work! The trick is to use a daily clarifying shampoo to strip out the wax buildup. Pantene is the best thing to ever happen to the hair care industry. I'll never go back to wimpy, watery conditioners again!
kelly7655 11/28/2002
I have tried so many shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, spritzes, the list goes on and on. I could not find a hair spray that would actually hold (it's very damp where I live). I absolutely love Pantene Hairspay..it's wonderful! It holds well all day (12 hours or more) and you can still comb through it. I use the firm hold hairspray (the flexible hold doesn't do me any good). The shampoos and conditioners are great too (however, I have noticed they aren't as effective if you use them for an extended period of time, so I do switch from brand to brand). I don't bother with the Pantene two in one shampoo/conditioner...it doesn't seem to condition my hair at all.
andreawalker 11/03/2002
Kelly Ripa is a liar!! She does not use this terrible product!!!! It leaves a lot of wax in your hair and it strips color from your hair. Pantene truly the worst bunch of products ever created.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 01/30/2002
Like peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and chocolate Pantene brings two wonderful things together as one. The shampoo and conditioner in one is one of the greatest inventions ever, a time saver, cost savings, an easy rinse and a unifying experience, (okay the last one's a bit of a stretch). I know other hair care companies make 2 in 1 products like this but Pantene makes and great one. Hear hear for Pantene!
filta_21 01/30/2002
God knows how much i regret the day i bought this product ( can´t think of a more diplomatic word to use ), it did nothing to my hair! it sucks! the only good thing about it is the smell
Kendra_Cmm 01/29/2002
The only thing I liked about this product was the smell. I don't know if it's just my hair type or if the makers are full of sh*t because this shampoo didn't do anything for my hair except make it hang like limp string.

Any good hairdresser will tell you that Pantene isn't worth the bottle it's packaged in! Like everyone else, I bought into the whole Kelly LeBrock 'Don't-Hate-Me-Because-I'm-Beautiful' thing! And like a lot of other reviewers, I only ended up hating this product!!! The reason it makes hair so soft and shiny is simply because all the wax in it coats hair! (All that Pro-Vitamin B-5 bull is exactly that: BULLSH*T!) At first, one could care less if it had animal urine in it as long as it works wonders, right??? But then, when hair STARTS FALLING OUT IN THE SHOWER LIKE SOME FORTY YEAR OLD MAN'S, it's time to give it up completely! My hair is normally thick and a little course, but after using this for a few months it became really dry and noticably thinner to the touch. Now I use a semi-expensive salon shampoo and conditioner (Redken All-Soft and I couldn't be happier!) and it is just starting to remedy the damage this product has done! So the next time your hairdresser warns you against Pantene and other wax-based products like it, be kind to your hair and take heed!!!
thor485om 06/21/2001
Some Pantene products are quite good, however I have discovered that I must wash my hair everyday if I use any of their shampoos/conditioners - wax is one of the ingredients (to make your hair soft) and it makes my hair greasy. I switched to Aveda products and my hair is just as soft, shiny, etc., but I only have to wash it every 2-3 days so it is much healthier.
Aurielle 04/24/2001
I first tried Pantene Pro-V's Hydrating Curls line back in December; I've been using it ever since. I have naturally curly hair, but not defined, frizz-free curls like I get with the shampoo, conditioner, and styling products. I love it. If you have curly or wavy hair, I DEFINITELY recommend it!
jewel_719 02/14/2001
Too perfumey of a smell, gives me headaches
TasteeCakes 11/24/2000
Pantene doesn't have a clean smell. When I used this product, my hair would come out in bunches.
mrose 11/20/2000
I used this while I was growing my hair down to below my waist. I barely had split ends and my hair was so full of body.
Chelanie 11/20/2000
Pantene is an average product for me. The shampoo is good. It leaves my hair very clean. The conditioner doesn't work too well on my long, thick hair. It doesn't make my hair soft and manageable at all. It's a little too watery for me.
dskobunny 11/17/2000
I gave Pantene a great rating because it helps restore damaged hair. I dye my hair a lot and my hair wasn't so healthy, but using Pantene feeds my hair the nutrients it needs to look shiny and healthy.
cindyfig 11/16/2000
This product leaves my hair frizzy and terrible. My hair is out of control when I use this product and the smell is terrible.
sexylexy 11/16/2000
Pantene sucks. This brand of haircare product is too expensive for what it does to your hair. All it does is weigh it down and the models in the commercials are probably not using it. It sucks, don't use it.
jeremie 11/16/2000
I use Pantene every day and I like the smell of it and it cleans my hair very well and I don't have naps in my hair like when I was using my other shampoo.
kweenxbee 11/15/2000
I use Pantene shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and gel. I love their new scent. It smells way better than their old scent. I love the gel because it doesn't flake and smells incredible. The only problem is my hair tends to fall out a lot.
