I own a Hummer 97 hardtop 4 door, two Lincoln Navigators, a Ford Excursion and 6 other cars. The Hummer gets the most looks the Fords run better. Hummer has crack in #8 cylinder....most do. But Hummer has replaced it and knows of the problem 97,98 &99's. Steering box needs to be recalled, on third. And a host of other electrical problems with civilian package. Oh yea loop out the transfer case cooler it's bad too. Every month another problem. How did we win a war with this?

After reading all the comments in regards to the HUMMER I am offened at the idea that it is only for men and for wealth. I have a 1998 wagon with all the bells and whistles. I AM FEMALE and I will tell you why I have it and its not for the reasons listed in other comments. I am a 24 year old single mom who travels Canadian Icey roads all the time with a small child. I own my own buisness which is about 100 miles from my home. I rely on my hummer to get me where I want to go safley and on time. I could go get a 40,000 dollar truck which I would be able to get stuck and or maybe even get killed if hit by the same size of vehical. I use this vehical for advertiing my buisness on and give one of them away frequently because they are such a valuable vehical to own. Where I am there is not alot of hummers for miles and it may draw attention however a 60,000 dollar viper will do the same. I worked hard for my buisness which enables me to drive this kind of vehical. When a person buys any car/truck it is because its the vehical of there choice and whatever they buy they are proud of. I have taken mine in all kinds of contitions and have no complaints about it so far.. The one thing I can garrentee is that I am going to be getting there safley. As for peoples additudes on the comment listed in the negative they are about as ignorant as many people whom I come accross not beleiveing a women would buy a hummer when she could have picked a nice little sports car. Many times I have heard the comment "wow can't beleive your husband let you drive this" (Im not married and this vehical hasn't helped the situation unless I was looking for someone that was a user and you don't need a hummer to find them) If it wasn't for the saftey and the advertizing I may have bought that 60,000 car that was useless to me and that way I could have had the same amount of attention and people would have beleived it was mine... Anyone who buys one your not going to be dissapointed.

Now this is a Monster vehicle. Hit that starter and listen to the cackle of the 6.5 Litre diesel. Do you want some attention? Drive a Hummer - every male under 20 will be your buddy. How do I know this? My son borrowed one for a week. It snowed like crazey (2-3ft) the lawn was frozen so we drove it around the back forty with no problems - until it got warm and my son took some teeny boopers for a ride and got stuck in a ditch. The Hummer could not handle it. But there is a happy ending to the story, I stayed on the road and pulled him out of the ditch with my 2 wheel drive EXCURSION! Thanks to Ford Motor Co for the std. tow hooks. $112,000 and stuck in a ditch it's ONE STAR BABY! Oh if you buy one get the soft top - it's difficult as hell to see out of it and if you run over too many people your insurance company will hate you.

Having been a US Marine, I fell in love with Hummers. I now own a 1999 4-door soft top. Its my daily driver, and the best vehicle I've ever driven. Its gorgeous, attracts lots of attention, is the single safest vehicle to be in during an accident, can go anywhere, can haul 2 tons of cargo, is fun, has no problem in snow and ice, can pull people out of ditches, extremely reliable and durable, etc. The folks who gave them low ratings never owned one, and probably can't afford one - sounds like jealousy or just plain ignorance.

The reason I can say it is great is because I have one, a 1993 Red OT(open top). My husband and I do use it for everyday use. It has a great stereo, air conditioning(new 2000 unit), the only bad thing is the gas mileage which is actually better than a 2000 Ford Excursion so we shouldn't complain. Yes it is a symbol that you can have whatever it is that you want if you want it bad enough. Our Hummer did not cost the $107,000 that a new 2000 does but ours does not have the extras. Yes it can climb a mountain, go through water, snow, hail and everything else without a scratch. Why do we have it, because we can. Plus my husband likes the attention it gets him from the ladies : )

this is not doubt the best off-roading car out there right now. if the military uses it than that means that it is a great off-roading car. it is desgined so that you dont get any problems in ten yrs! if you do your normal oil change your hummer will go ten yrs without a problem! i will personaly buy one in about four yrs. so i can go hunting in the mountains.

What is up with this? I guess the idea of it is cool, perfomance wise it is probably the best SUV. But who really needs this capability if they are not in the military, or living on top of a mountain. Doesn't even make any sense to see them on the street. It is clearly a status symbol for people who use it as their vehicle for going to and from work etc...

Will do exactly what the Army says it will, will go anywhere it fits.Olive drab suits its better though.The 24V,diesel-powered Army Hummers are MUCH better than the overrated civilian version.(Army)Hummers are wonderful but definitely not worth $60,000, civilian or military.

People give the Hummer too much credit. It's an army vehicle, not a SUV. Just because it's big does not mean it's good.

This would rate ***** if we were talking about the military no-air-conditioning-and-a-machine-gun-mount model. But the civilian version prefered by internet arrivistes and balding mid-life crisis losers is a sure sign of a small penis, and an obnoxious menace to everyone else on the road. Real men don't need big cars to prop up their tiny egos (and you KNOW 98% of these are sold to men).

Hummer is a well known SUV and should provide the consumers with a lower cost model, but with the same quality, a little less luxurious for the middle class.
