I currently own two Grand cherokees. A 94'with a 5.2L and 98' 5.9L. I tow with both of them regularly and heavily (6800 lb. boat). I have 120000 miles on the 94' and 93000 on the 98. I have not had a major problem with either despite continued abuse. They out class and out accelerate all other sport utes on the road under $65K. Wouldn't drive anything else even if it was given to me.

I own two Jeep Grand CherokeeLaredo's. 1994 with 139,000 miles on it. My teenage daughter now drives it and it runs like a clock. NO major problems with it since the day I bought it new. The way it is running it likely will be around for another 139,000 miles. 1998 Grand Cherokee: runs great with 70,000 miles on it again no major problems since the day I bought it. Both provide a smooth comfortable ride. When it is snowing the 4 wheel drive provides a confident driving expereince. They look sharp. Tires last a long time and wear down evenly. I will never stray from Jeep as long as they last and perform like these two have.

I own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo equipped with the tried and true 4.0L I6. As of now no serious problems with over 90,000 miles. There's no secret to making the engine last. This has been a staple to Jeep. If your looking for a reliable long lasting vehcile, a straight six Jeep should be at the top of your list. And unlike many suburbanite Jeep owners, I actually utilize Jeep and its heritage by taking it off road and when ever 4X4 is truly needed. It's a dream off road, good low end torque, and superb traction. If you have heard horror stories about Jeeps, it's most likely because of the V8 powertrain. The V8 powertrain is all Dodge-Not Jeep. AWD Jeeps always have issues both with their diffentials and weak Chryler transmissions. The 4.0L Straight Six is such a good proven powertrain, that Mercedes-Benz(Daimler Chrysler) is slowely fading them out. Too GREAT and Proven for such a car company that likes complicating simple things. Only In A Jeep.

Terrible. While the front is reasonably roomy, the rear bench is low to the floor and can sit two at most. Very bad problems, especially with the horrible engine and the electricity. Prices go for about an entry level Expedition, being way over priced. Cargo room small, but no useless. Get an Explorer- there not small, can hold 7 people, and dosen't have as nearly close to being as unreliable.

I had a 1996 Grand Cherokee with about 70,000 that had the transmission go out. It did great in the snow and ice but it just seemed that the vehicle just seemed to get looser and noisier in very little time. Not a bad vehicle though.

I have a 1998 Jeep Laredo with 44K miles on it that just failed on the road due to a clogged fuel system. My daughter and others were at risk since the car came to a halt on a main road and could not be moved off ot it. It had to be towed to the dealer. The repair cost was $725.00. I was told there was a growth in the tank and the fix was to replace the tank or have it flushed out with bleach which is what they did along with replacing the fuel pump. If it was a growth then the tank was made without the proper inhibitors in it to prevent this. In reading another review it may be a liner problem. Obviously we are not getting a straight answer on this from the manufacturer and they are aware of the problem. The parts man at the dealer said he had seen numerous pump failures on this car,and unless the tank is flushed or replace the failure repeats in a very short period of time. Jeep said it was out of warranty and when I asked about the flushing with bleach procedure they started to dance and would not provide this in writing and claimed it was not something that applied to my car to begin with. I sense a cover up here. If any others have had this problem please contact me. The car is a gas hog, I have the 4.0 liter engine, the tires wear out fast and it has poor quality brake rotors on it. Not worth what you pay for it expecially with the high maintenance cost to operate it.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cheroke. At 11,000 miles had to have new brake pads and rotors. Had to fight for warrany coverage. Now, 8000 miles later, the rotors are bad again! Have there been recalls? Has anyone else had this problem? I will never lease another Jeep.

Rotors changed 3 times in 19000 miles, bad fuel pump, loud rear differential, noises coming from dash board--terrible truck. Good looks dirty tricks. Chrysler shouldn't charge more than 12,000 dollars for this vehicle, I've driven a Kia Spotage that is more reliable.

I am in 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee FUEL PUMP FAILURE HELL. I am on my 4th Fuel pump in three months, my mechanic is puzzled, he has not heard of the possible fuel tank corrosion issues, but says it is very plausible. Chrysler ought to be ashamed for not addressing the issue.

I will never buy another Chrysler product as long as I live (which may not be long if I keep driving my 99 Grand Cherokee). Nothing but problems since the day I bought it. Engine noise, multiple (4) failed power window motors - 2 of which I had to pay for, bad brake rotors, failed water pump (replacement only available through Chrysler for $135 plus labor), failed fuel pump (hard to start), driver seat losing shape, bad road noise, oil pressure problems. All of this with only $68K miles. If I wanted to make 2 car payments, I would have bought 2 cars. Instead I have a car payment and a Jeep Grand Cherokee corrective maintenance payment. This is precisely the reason Americans buy imports.

I have had nothing but problems with warped Rotors on my 2001 Jeep GC. Jeep has been beyone arrogant and says it is a normal wear problem. Since when has a company made a vehicle that has to have brakes serviced every 20K miles? My last Chrysler product as their customer service has hit rock bottom since the Germans took over.

About the gasoline tank liner - I have a 1995 Jeep Grand and the fuel pump failed at 115,000 miles (May 2002). The dealer tried this "microbial growth" bs until I had some friends at Conoco put this line to rest. Nonetheless, $800 and a new fuel pump later, I was back on the road. This liner is crap - beware!!!

Last Saturday, Feb 1, 2003, My '96 Gr Cherokee just sputtered to a stop in the high speed lane of a local highway. I had to get it towed to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. What I found out astonishes me. It seems that putting gasoline in my fuel tank has caused my fuel pump to fail. I know, it seems ridiculous to me too, but its true. What's more, the dealer indicated it may be several days before he can get parts as several others are having similar problems. The details: It seems in late 90's Chrysler put a liner in their fuel tanks that deteriorates or dissolves after prolonged contact with gasoline. The sludge that results fouls the fuel pump and the fuel pump eventually fails. A call to Chrysler yielded only the form letter response "This vehicle is beyond it's warranty period, any maintenance is the responsiblity of the owner" that I have seen verbatim in other's postings on this site. . When I inquired further, The Chrysler Customer Assistance Hot Line indicated that there were no others with similar issues. This is in direct conflict with the claims of my local Dealership's Service Mgr who has 2 others on his lot with this same problem and indicates he can't get parts because they are back-ordered. SO, You can see, the replacement of the fuel tank and the fuel pump is obviously the owner's problem since I actually put Gasoline into my Gasoline Tank for the past 6 years! Pretty Lame. So let's do something about it! If you have had a similar occurence, please register it here. Daimler Chrysler arrogantly denies that there is any sort of trend - Let's show them a trend!

I was worried about the mileage (88,000) on my 1998 Grand Cherokee so traded it on a new 2002 Subaru Outback - 9 months later I hated the Outback so much I bought the jeep back (luckily it had been on loan to a client of the dealers and they still had it). That must be the ultimate expression of confidence in a vehicle - to buy it back. GREAT TRUCK (as long as you rember it is a truck). Probably overkill for the driving we do, gravel roads, long distance towing of a dog trailer, riverbeds and beaches etc which is why we chose the Outback (mistake!) - The only one fault is the abismal mileage it gets, otherwise it would rate 5 stars from me.

I have owned 4 Grand Cherokees since they first came out in 92(2 in 92 because Chrysler finally took back the first one and gave me a new one after legal threats, all the mileage was to and from the dealer for repair). I have no clue why I keep buying them other than the way they looked. I lost track of the recall notices.... this year I bought a Ford Explorer Limited V8. WOW What a difference....NEVER a Jeep again.

I recently purchased a jeep grand cherokee overland with the new quadre drive system. We have had our first snowfall and had great difficulty coming to a stop or even staying straight on the road. The rear end seams too light and fishtales. I am driving extremely cautious and slow in snowy weather as I am not sure that my vehicle will stop. My husband took it for a test run in bad weather and experienced the same thing. I have had an all-wheel drive vehicle before and found it fabulous. The Jeep just doesn't compare. I am also finding it a nuisance to have oil changed so often. I have driven volvo's for many years and always felt safe when driving and was sure that I could stop. It is only 3 months old and have had problems with not having any exterior lights and a few other annoyances that are starting to irk me.

I never wanted an SUV until I drove a JEEP. I love my new 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo. It is probably THE toughest SUV around, AND it can be considered a luxury vehicle. For tough, I got a V8 engine, 4wd, skid plates, upgraded suspension, and tow hooks. For luxury, I got heated leather seats, sunroof, and auto-everything. How can anyone consider anything else? Unless its a Grand Cherokee Overland I suppose.... $$ bling bling $$

I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo - fell in love with the handeling and styling. Unfortunately, I have had MANY problems (fuel pump replaced TWICE, transmission replaced TWICE, water pump replaced, repainted because paint flaking off, front power windows failed, leaky rear window/door weather seals, warped rotors, etc.) My Jeep has been religiously serviced and has never left a paved road. What a shame - it is really a nice car when it isn't broken...

A piece of crap. Sorry I ever bought one. Great if you like visiting the Jeep dealership and trying to get warranty work done. Then wait for parts. Then wait for them to get around to fixing the vehicle. What? 3 sets of rotors in 15,000 miles? That's normal? Now Jeep won't fix it, they say it's not a defect? What about all the others with the exact same problem? Lemon law here I come..... Never again !!!! Where's the nearest Toyota dealership...????

After 8 attempts to repair a noisey front AND rear differential on my 2000 Grand Cherokee - I give up! I love the vehicle but the quality of the transmission and axle assemblies stinks! I even had a Chrysler engineer look at the vehicle - he could improve the noise only marginally. Then they traded me into another like vehicle. Quiet. Then after 6000 miles the noises started again. by 12000 miles it was back to the same level of my first JGC. Never again. Sorry Jeep, its a great looking vehicle - but thats where it ends!

I look pretty fly in my 2000 Grand Cherokee. A guy I know bought a Ford Explorer before I obtained my Jeep, and he now suffers from Cherokee Envy. Much more comfortable than other mid-size SUV's, with room to spare. The V-6 engine in my Laredo model provides outstanding power and performance. Overall, an excellent buy from the people who invented and perfected the SUV.
