10/14/2005 | crate is trying to compete in the 'boutique' amp catagory. they have failed miserably. the VFX series are absolute junk. they look great on paper, but have so many design flaws, they are unusable. the best part is, their cusomer service is horrible. the main service manager, dave, is a total jerk.
i bought a VFX 5112, played it for 6 weeks. changing channels from dirty to clean, there is a half second delay. totally unacceptable, totally unusable. i talked to crate about it, and they said it is that way by design. You've got to be kidding me?!

01/20/2005 |  I played every single amp in guitar center, I even kept them later than they were suppose to be there, because they let me and i wanted to know which amp was the best in that whole store. (for me) I had always played crate. Played about every crate made. One day I just decided to go with marshall, different sound and all. We I had my marshall AVT150 head, for about 6 months, had problems with it. So I sold it. And now im going back with crate. The new Crate head they have out now blew away every single amp in guitar center. Believe me I played them all, with different cabds and all. The crate shockwave and the crate tidalwave are exactly what I was looking for. I cant believe that these amps are 350 watts!! Needless to say, I finally found an amp that is loud enough for me. The sound was huge. Big fat crunchy sound down to a nice warm clean sound. The tidalwave has built in effects and a built in tuner. Man, What more do you need? Like I said, I played every amp in that place. These new crate amps are amazing. For the price too. List for 1100.00 but you can get them for around 600.00. These amps are great for whatever style you play. The funny thing is, these amps arent even tube amps and they still blew away marshall jcm series heads (imo) For the price, there is no other. Crate. My amp for life.
