I feel like a crackhead with a pocketful of cash everytime I walk in this store.... So much magnificent and useless crap to buy. The best store of its kind. I have had one or two customer service related problems in the past, but they were settled to my satisfaction and I've taken alot of electronics in for service and usually have had prompt service.

They're really bad about placing stuff in their ads and then not having it in their stores. My first visit there 3 yrs ago I was looking to buy a new game when it was released at their store. I went there and they didn't have a single copy. I asked an associate where it was, and he said heh, you're like the 5th guy who's asked about it...we won't be getting it for a few weeks. Would you like to order it here and pick it up later? Uh, no thanks. I went across the street to Target and they had it in stock. A few months later I was at another of their stores looking to get a DVD burner they advertised the day before, and again, none in stock. I didn't go back for a while. Skip forward to 2004, and I was looking to get a wearable MP3 player. Best Buy had the best price on it, so I decided to deal with the devil and go there. I walked in and instantly had a salesman all over me. I shooed him away and made a b-line for what I wanted, grabbed it (wow, they actually had it!) and went to the register. At this point the sales pitches should be over, but the cashier kept pushing the extended warranty plan. I told him no 3 times, he harumphed and hastily checked me out and booted me out the door. He must get a commission on those dumb warranties. I may be wrong, but at one point Best Buy frequently advertised something to the tune of no pressure, no pushy salesmen or something to that effect. Those days seem to be long since gone. In a press release one of the execs at Best Buy wanted to get rid of demon customers like me, who only go for the loss leaders. That's OK guys, you lost me a long time ago. Best Buy is a testament to the power of branding and marketing power, and they're coasting off their long-past repuation for having low prices. I say avoid them.
joeconsumer47 08/21/2005
Someone got me a gift certificate for Best Buy, but you can't use gift certificates online, so I had to go in to find what I wanted. They didn't have what I wanted in the store, so I made a request online for them to ship the product to a store so that I could pay with the gift card and their comments section wasn't working. This is annoying!!!!!!!

I don't like Best Buy. We bought a flat screen tv for christmas a couple years ago and didn't want the extended warranty, and after 4 months it broke and when we brought it in, they told us we didn't have an extended warranty, we told them it was still under original warantee and they sent it out and came back and told us it was previously opened, when it wasn't. So they told us that it would cost us like 400 to have it repaired.. when we only paid 250 for it. It was a total sham. They only will repair it if you have the extended warantee. We will never go back there, again. If it WAS opened, it was opened in the store, before we bought it.

I think Best Buy has excellent customer service equal to Sears Robuck. They have reasonably priced extended warranties. My computer was priced the lowest compared to competitors, and i recieved all of my rebates. A couple of the salesman in the computer area were dopeheads, but most were pretty knowledgable. I only wanted to give the knowledgable salesmen the credit for my sale. I purchased a refrigerator from Best Buy three years ago, and the salesman made a mistake when we purchased our extended warranty. He gave us the top of the line warranty compared to the cheaper warranty for the same price! He could not change the mistake.
traderboy 05/20/2005
As with most every other type of store, Best Buy is only as good as the sales they run. The merchandise is fairly top-quality, but if they slap a sale price on it, you'd better parachute in ASAP (otherwise, it's gone, and you'll play hell getting it restocked). DVDs (the main reason I shop there) are a different story; if you can squint down their ad layout and keep a sharp eye out, their 2/$15.00 deals are tough to top. The employees come in two flavors: aloof and predatory. Either way, they impart the feeling that they're in the know on what's going on within the store, which always makes me uneasy. Noisy, pricey, and packed.....they must be doing something right.
BBallJunkie 04/15/2005
I have personally had bad experiences with several of their stores.
threedognight 04/12/2005
I have never had a problem with Best Buy. Their salespeople don't work on commission so they often will recommend a better product, even if it costs less. Also, they have all kinds of no-interest financing deals on their credit card. They have a lot of open box items that you can get the regular warranty on, so you're getting a product much cheaper, but you still have a good warranty. I highly recommend Best Buy. Any problems I had were fixed quickly.
Windsun 02/25/2005
One of the few electronics stores around where I could actually get some help. Prices are a bit higher than some, but I am so tired of crappy service from places like Fry's that I am more than willing to pay a bit more for good service.
daf62757 12/30/2004
A bunch of criminals. They steal your money and call it a restocking fee. Best Buy is the worst buy!
jirai 12/13/2004
Worthless! The employees know nothing about their products and are usually too busy pushing off their extended warranties to tell you anything useful. I have had a couple of the employees flat out lie about their products and services. Your better off doing your own research and buying online.
dragonman 10/25/2004
Good prices but some of their stuff is repackaged/refurbished items that were once broken. Their customer service and PC tech support is lousy. Good DVD selection though.
Tonyb 10/23/2004
Great service, good prices.
Rate Me! 10/17/2004
First, no arguements about prices. Good prices, unless there is a sale, then your out of luck, it wont be there most of the time. Employees are friendly, but become annoying when the same person has just walked by you for the third time and asked if you are finding everything ok. But the biggest complaint is the lines. Kind of irritating standing in line and watching six employees just standing there goofing off or going around asking the same guy over and over how hes doing. I'll shop there again if im pissing my day away.

We (my fiance' and I) usually don't buy CDs, DVDs or games there, just computer parts & maintenance software, and at least for that they tend to be pretty good. They offer rebates on almost everything that we buy (again, we don't get CDs & etc. there), and most things end up costing at least 50% less because of it. The stores we frequent usually have pretty friendly staff, and can point out pretty good deals. We've never dealt with returns, we never had to. If you're looking for computer hardware and maintenance-type software, I'd recommend checking this place out. UPDATE: Wow, my initial comment was a 4 star rating, but I'm sad to say Best Buy has fallen out of favor for me and my husband. Best Buy used to be a dependable place for all of our computer needs, so naturally when my husband he needed a splitter of some kind, we took our trip to Best Buy. Noticing that their store layout has changed, we had to go searching for our part, and we just couldn't find it anywhere. We finally asked a member of the staff where else it could be located, and he told us that they are no longer carrying parts like those and we'll have to go to CompUSA. They still seem to be carrying hardware like DVD Burners and Hard Drives seperately, so it seems silly to me that they wouldn't carry spare wiring and such.
Mr Evangel 10/06/2004
I was actually a good Besy Buy customer and then they mislead me. I purchased a cell phone and they encouraged me to get a 2 year Gurantee. They told me that if anything broke on the phone they would replace it. The screen broke and they refused to fix it. They said the warantee was only good if the connection of the phone wouldn't work. I talked to the one of the mangers and he didn't seem to care about the situation. I will never go there again.

I keep telling myself that I will never visit another Best Buy again, but keep going back (for their prices, and numerous locations in my area). They have successfully put several small (and HIGH PRICED) record stores out of business in my town, for better or worse. But the service at Best Buy is LOUSY (unless you are interested in buying a big screen TV, forget about getting someone to help you--the staff would rather joke amongst themselves than help customers). The selection of CDs is God-awful (unless you are really into today's music). Selection of DVDs is a little better. I am starting to go to Barnes & Noble for my CD needs. Yes they are more expensive, but the people in the music section are knowledgeable about GOOD music and the selection is infinitely better.
DSPKorruptor 08/17/2004
I have always been a fan of Best Buy. Great prices, friendly employees, and a great selection have always been part of my Best Buy experience. I recently got a job at Store #40 in Eau Claire, and I feel that the misconceptions about the employees are rather insane. We don't work on commission, we make a respectable wage, and every one of my coworkers that I know, as well as myself, love our job. I can tell you that Best Buy is going through a lot of changes, including getting more knowledgeable employees. I apolgise to all those who have had a bad experience at Best Buy, as it was not our intention. For those of you who still shop there, even though I'm only a Media Product Specialist, we do appreciate your business. And no, the company is not making me do this, I do this on my own accord. I'm just a satisfied customer turned employee.
alpepper 08/14/2004
I'm seeing a lot of people here giving copious amounts of grief over Best Buy's pis-poor service and pimply-faced staff without clues. At least these people bought something there. Three times we gave Best Buy a shot (Flat-Screen TV, Camcorder, and portable DVD Player). Each time we were attracted by a decent ad in the paper. But when you go to Worst Buy, the parking is always hellacious, the place is always congested, and the desired item you wanted is never there. You wait about 30 minutes for a pimply-faced dude to see if there's one in the back. That's when the pimply faced dudes try to sell you something twice as expensive and are unable to answer the simplest question on consumer electronics. We always left without buying anything and got what we wanted at Circuit City. Don't waste your time going to Worst Buy.
MariusQelDroma 08/02/2004
Almost as good a selection as Fry's, and fairly close in price on some things, though always higher. Geared more towards the average consumer shopper, so parts only is limited. Avoid their in-house repair guys....go to Data Doctor or your local reputable technician if your box dies.
eddis 06/10/2004
I worked for a long time at Future Shop in Canada. The same kind of company and the same management style. In fact, Future Shop is now owned by Best Buy Inc. In my time there I have seen some really good employees get treated like dirt, and enough backstabbing to make a persian dagger weilder blush in shame. The very backstabbing that led to my termination. This company, like many large companies, doesnt give a rats a$$ about people. They just want your money. And guess what, most of us will give it to them! Pretty sad aint it. Next time you buy something from there, look at the employees. Do they look happy? I bet you most will not. There is so much dirt in their corporate ladder that I'd take pages and pages to describe how filthy some [not all] of the management is, so I wont even bother. Take it from someone who has been on BOTH sides, employee and customer.
kc_gttld 05/28/2004
I have had the worst service ever from Best Buy. Their credit card screwed me and they refuse to price match other companies' adds half the time. I go to Circuit City now when ever I can. I only go to Best Buy if I absolutely have no choice.
dipshah73 05/23/2004
I purchased a Panasonic Mini DV Camcorder worth $472 from Best Buy on line. They had advertised that I will be getting $50 Digital Dollars in 14 days of my purchase and that they will send it via e-mail. Today it has been more than 7 weeks and I am still waiting. I complained 3 times online and 3 times on phone but they have the worst customer service I have dealt with. Each time I called, I must have spent atleast 45 minutes and all they do is give me a new case number each time and that someone will contact you in 3 business days - which never happened. Noone knows where, how and to whom I can forward my complaints to as nothing has happened. The supervisor also did not knew anything and is blaming on a different Department ( which does not receive phone calls). They don't have the web page where they had advertised for this $50 Digital Dollars. I can still go on with the horrible experience I had with Purchase, Dealing with RUDE CUSTOMER CARE and the way I lost my $50 But I will make my story short and CAUTION YOU ALL - PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM BEST BUY OR BE PREPARED TO FACE THE HUMILIATION FROM WORST CUSTOMER CARE.
Paraginator87 05/14/2004
If you have any computer problems, do not go there. They were unable to diagnose a simple problem with my computer and refused to give back my $60. I had to file a complaint with the BBB to get my money back.
jcjoint 04/28/2004
I have nothing good to say about Best Buy. I just don't shop there anymore. I'll hit them where it hurts...one dollar at a time. Best bye bye shop anywhere but there.
asdfasdfasdf 04/01/2004
Employees have no idea what they are talking about. Managers are too young and have no experience running a store, let alone resolving a conflict between an employee and a customer (easy one... the customer). The list goes on and on!
superstene 03/20/2004
Would be better if you didn't have to deal with an army of 16 year olds trying to sell you stupid warranties on everything like used car salesmen
mahadragon 02/25/2004
Good selection, good prices. I have worked in retail for the past 13 years and I have a business degree. It is unreasonable to pay someone $9/hr and expect them to know everything about a product. Look at what big companies pay consultants. They make well over $100/hr. If you are going into Best Buys and you ask someone to recommend the best Video Camera for your family you are asking for consulting services. Granted we're only talking about a video camera, and not hundreds of millions of dollars, there are lots of people who get paid substantial amounts of money for breaking down and comparing products such as the best video cameras for such-and-such people.
jimb425 02/16/2004
Extended Warranties close to worthless. They will leave you hanging with part in back order for weeks-->months-->to maybe never to not replace an item.
DickWeener 02/01/2004
This place is between 3 to 4 stars.... When I first discovered Best Buy 1994 this was the place for great electronics at great prices, they been real excellent up until about 3 years ago, prices aren't as good now and some products are a little over priced in my opinion as far as computer, software, video cards go....Everything is mail in rebate this, mail in rebate that......I have no problem with mailing in a rebate, but this is the problem....they carry a computer for lets say $1099 up front , and you get $400 back from mail in rebate 6-8 weeks later, and it ends up costing you $699 in the long run......Then you go to Wal-mart and find a computer that is almost the same thing, same brand, same stats...it may even be a Wal-mart exclusive, but overall it's the same computer and it may only cost you $499 and that is up front with no mail in rebates...I mean do the math, you are still getting the computer for a few hundred less and it's still beating Best Buys price even after rebates. Now Best Buy throw some killer deals on CD's, DVD's, Video games for Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, On certain titles they might advertise it lower then anyone, even Wal-mart, and other titles may be full price....It just depends where you go and what kind of deals they are running on certain things at the time....For example, I saw a 27inch flat screen Tv at Wal-mart for $368 it's a Panasonic , excellent tv...I then went to Best Buy and saw a 27inch Samsung flat screen tv for $345 on special, and that model of Samsung tv is much nicer than the Panasonic....Overall I would say Wal-mart is king on prices, but stores like Best Buy, Circuit City have certain things you cannot get anywhere else and sometimes the quality is higher and price is lower......I am a real consumer when it comes to shopping for items like this, it pays to look around and see what your options are.....Best Buy has some good things at good prices other things they don't....Nothing is perfect....
jgls 01/23/2004
my rating is based on their amazing selection of dvd's and cd's, and because they aren't circuit city. i have only bought a couple of electronic items from them, but nothing really expensive. my biggest complaints are not enough sales people when you really need them, never enough registers open, and i hate having my bag checked when i leave the store. in dvd's and cd's alone i probably spend about $7,500 a year there. started shopping online with them because i hated the ordeal of dealing with long lines. their website is ok but slow, and sometimes i have to enter my password more than once which is irritating.
mellybelly1283 12/30/2003
I enjoy shopping at Best Buy because of thier great prices and selections. Their credit department is absoletly horrible. If you mail your bill in a couple of days before it is due, they charge you a $30 late fee!!!! And they aren't very nice about it. If anyone who works for Best Buy reads this, please consider allowing customers to pay thier bill in the store to avoid late charges. Also, they sell your name to other creditors.
raybo67 11/18/2003
Don't come here looking for top-of-the-line electronics with knowledgeable salespeople. But they have lots to look at with average retail brick and mortar prices.
scarletfeather 11/06/2003
More than likely you will find your "best buy" in electronics at Best Buy. I got a good deal on my TV there. They also have a great selection of CDs. If only actually shopping at Best Buy weren't such an unpleasant experience. Anytime I go out there the place is packed, with music blaring-it's like a madhouse. It is not a pleasant place to spend any time.
kolby1973 11/06/2003
This store like most Electronic stores is full of cashiers and workers who know NOTHING about the product you are looking for. Usually you have to search for someone for minutes to even get help, and everything is generally very overpriced. I will say there was a time that Best Buy had great deals on computers in general, but now they are getting just as bad as the rest of the stores. But like I said, the customer service is the worst, but that is the scenario in most stores nowadays, regardless of what they are selling. It kinda sucks to be honest. But I guess these people get paid really poorly. So I can't blame them.
RLM007 11/05/2003
BE WARNED BEST BUY CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS.... I went in to ask about a printer for my wife to prints photos. I asked the sales person about archival quality printers. He had no idea what I was talking about and after I educated him as to why the ink was important so the prints will not fade he said they didn't have any. As I was walking out the door I found a floor stack of 30 printers with a 60 year archival rating right on the SIDE OF THE BOX! After we owned the printer for three weeks it quit working. I took it back to have them exchange it. ALL of Best's competition will exchange items within 30-60 days. They DID NOTHING! They would not even ship it to the manufaturer as ALL the competition will.
tvtator 10/29/2003
A good store that has everything from computers and computer supplies, tv's, vcrs, dvd players, dvds, computer games, stereos for home and the car, appliances and more. The sales people are friendly not pushy at all and will answer any question.
paride82 09/20/2003
What can I say. Best Buy has found a niche and thus destroyed an industry. They have figured out how to destroy it's competitor's prices by hiring punk, pimple faced know-nothing kids my age to sell thousands of dollars of crap. Basically this store is only good if you know what is what and know what you already have in mind. This way you'll get a good price. Otherwise stay away. Their prices are the only thing that saved them from me giving them a 0. Customer service is the worst in the industry, and good luck trying to find someone that actually knows what their selling. It's truly a store that makes me feel dumber the longer I stay there. If you have the opportunity to go to either a Tweeter, or Circuit City do so. It's definatly worth the little extra money to get someone to help you that know about what their selling. Not the college kid looking for a extra buck working for Best Buy.
dovekiller 09/15/2003
I hit this place up regularly for cheap old music. (I like disco for exercise music) Accidentally destroyed a brand new pair of headphones when I sliced open the bubble pack. Took them back. They gave me a new pair, no argument. Good service.
Enemymig 08/25/2003
They have a great marketing plan and OK stuff It is just that you can't get help finding what is really better than the next device. I am more into audio products and I would rather go to a mom and pop shop or the Good Guys for better stuff. I might shop at BB for music and DVDs, things that I won't need answers for.
mikeholly93 08/21/2003
Good service and decent prices! the only bummer is a tendency to be a little low on selections but that happens.
DeathRattle 07/29/2003
Best Buy is the ultimate electronic store. They are #1 on the lowest prices for cds. MOst of their other products are the cheapest in price as well. Every product that I have ever bought from there has been quality (computers, printers, games, dvds and dvd players, vcrs, stereo systems, etc.) I have never had a problem with a faulty product. The only problem I have with Best Buy is the fact that they only open about 2 to 3 of the 14 cash registers they have available. This situation creats a 15 to 25 minutes of waiting just to buy a lousy cd. Either each store has to hire a couple more people or get some of their workers to the registers. Other than that negative, the store is great.
swanoak 07/26/2003
I came into the store looking for certain model VCR. The clerk instead of trying to help me find the model number I wanted was trying to sell me an extended warranty. He got between me and the displays and I had to physically push him aside so I could look for myself. I would have walked out except that I had store credit. When I complained to Best Buy via e-mail they defended his actions saying they are trained to assist the customer. Now when I see something in their flyer's I will check it out and then go across the street and buy it at Circuit City. Now there is a store that know how to treat a customer.
jbrytus 07/17/2003
Recently went in to purchase a product that was listed in weekly ad (wasn't in stock) and asked if one could be shipped from another store. They denied my reguest and tried to sell me another model at a higher price. Also one employee told us buying Roadrunner gets instant credit of 50 dollars. After we had it installed we took the receipt back and was told it was a mail in rebate.
kahfess 07/13/2003
I have purchased items from this store in the past. The positive sides to the store is it does often have the items that you are looking for at a decent price. The negative side, at least for the one in my area is that fact that most of the time you have to take that item back at least once because something is wrong with it and the fact that you may have a hard time finding someone to help you. Exchanges however, are usually fast and simple.
reeny 07/12/2003
The best electronics store around. One can find just about anything electronic at Best Buy. Their selection of DVD's is vast and they have a fairly large selection of computer software. When it comes to prices, Best Buy has the best deals hands down.
searoamer 07/11/2003
Good store, Good service. Good rating BigBaby. Way to go
I love rating 07/11/2003
Love it!!!
Sharris22 05/31/2003
Walking into Best Buy is like walking into an electronic amusement park. There is so much variety and so many demos to try out. I like the quality of brands and products they offer as well as a large selection. I wish it wasn't so loud inside which is probably due to the style of structure. I also would like to see employees who are more knowledgeable and really know how to assess my needs and to recommend a proper product. Their marketing is better than any electronic chain out there. A better return policy would be great as restocking fees are a big turn off. All in all-I really like Best Buy and would recommend Best Buy to others.
ROCKS IN THE BOX 05/31/2003
I bought a brand new "Sealed" ATI Radeon Video card from Best buy in Murrietta CA, got home, opened it and found a 8 year old EGA card with a Nintendo cable! I was very upset but was confident Best Buy would take care of it, WRONG! I returned the next day and the General Manager (I'm not afraid to name names) Kevin O'Neal said it could not of happened at their store and that I should contact the Manufacturer, now why the hell should I contact them when I bought it from Best Buy??? I was furious and he wouldnt budge on exchanging it. What kind of store is this???, they sell me a worhtless peice of junk as they refer to as "Rocks in the Box" and refuse to do anything about it! I'm writing consumer affairs on this one and I'm seriously considering legal action against these crooks! Nick
