Backed by one the neatest group of wacko’s ever seen in decades, Ralph Nader campaigned to the best of his ability. I thank him every day for electing George Bush. If you are one of his supporters, just remember, your candidate ran for office fully knowing what the impact of his actions would be on this country and instead acted in a way that advanced his own personal agenda.

A bit "out there," however Mr. Nader is a key asset to the consumers right movement. A great advocate and champion for safety reforms in corporate america, Mr. Nader is responsible for bringing to light the following: product safety recalls, consumer awareness, and a host of other benevolent causes. His middle name should be "caveat emptor."

I have voted for Nader twice for President. So did several of my friends. So many people said to us, "A vote for Nader is a wasted vote." Really? So these people really wanted my friends and I to vote for our second choice--George W. Bush? I was a member of the Democrat party for many years, but am now an Independent. I will never again vote Democrat!!! I am disgusted with the party and its candidates. I will rarely if ever vote Republican--unless perhaps it is John McCain.
sluigij 02/10/2003
Nader's immense ego got the best of him. By taking votes away from Gore, he aided Bush in becoming President. Nader has always been a glory-seeker. Let's add selfishmenss and poor judgment to his list of "attributes."

This idiot is the reason we are stuck with Bush...had he worked together with Al Gore we wouldn't be in the sad state we are in now. Nader needs to think about the big picture instead of his own radical beliefs.
gjm2000 01/16/2003
Hardly a day goes by when I do not think of Mr. Nader with anger and disgust. Through his awesome hubris he has given us George Bushy, and the world, let alone I should never forgive him for that despicable act.

Doesn't this guy get sick of losing elections? I respect him more than I like him. . .he cost Gore the election that gave us Dubya. Nader has principles that he will never have the forum to execute them. His time has passed.

Dammit, HE should have won the election! He had good policies and probably would have been a beneficial president. How the hell did we end up with Bush?!

If anyone is to be blamed for the abysmal leadership of this country under the Supreme Court appointed George W. Bush, that man is Ralph Nader. He split the Democratic party by running for presidency knowing full well that he didn't have a chance of winning and further, that Gore would be more responsive to environmental concerns than Bush. Nader's unparalleled egocentrism and arrogance have damaged his country. As one political commentator put it on election day, Ralph Nader's going to have a tough time getting anybody to return his phone calls for the next four years. Put this little twerp in a Corvair and send him over a cliff!
TheFreak 12/14/2001
Thanks Nader for abandoning your gay rights causes and all the other good stuff you were doing and launching on your "big business is evil" rampage! I cannot express my gratitude in mere words, and that is because it doesn't exist! Nader is a total sellout, plus he cost Al Gore the election! While I hate both Gore and Bush, I would without a doubt rather have Gore right now. No more running for president, Ralph S. Mouse. You've had your fun. Take care, everyone!
Galomorro 12/14/2001
I voted for him and would again. We need someone who cares more about the "little guy," the poor, the disabled, the homeless, and ordinary middle-class working people. He could probably do a lot to warn and protect people against ripoffs like certain credit card company practices, too, if he was Prez and in the spotlight. He'd doa lot of things to make the quality of life better for Americans. Many people complain about all-for-themselves kpoliticians and other bigwigs not doing enough to really help people where it counts, but everyone seems to be afraid to take a chance; they just go ahead and vote for the "safe," conservative repubs and demos like they always did, then continue to complain. "Think different" and vote for Nader next time!

I have a real problem with the Ralphman. whatever public good he did back in the day for consumers has been thrown down the drain when he handed bush the election by steeling important votes and making states like florida swing towards bush. He also heavily distorted the truth when he said bush and gore were the same. I agree with liberal activist gloria steinem when she says she's never seen two candidates differ so much on so many issues in such a long time. on the issues of education, gay rights, reproductive rights, environmental policy, sex education programs, and even minimum wage, gore was much much better.. Ralph is a conniving oppertunist, who stole his platform from the socialists, and overall sucks... thank-u ralph ( for your holier than thou attitude, and for putting bush, and ashcroft in power. You liar, son of a-aaggggghhhhh i'll stop here

I had the opportunity to speak with Nader at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, New York, back in 1990. He was speaking about the dangers of a government that failed to heed its citizens in a consumer-oriented society. I found him to be knowledgeable, pleasant, and brutally honest. I feel he speaks for the average American who may feel intimidated by our elected officials. Because I find him honest and forthright, perhaps that is why so many jaded, cynical politicians find him a threat to their privileged status in this country. His book, "Unsafe at Any Speed," is a must-read if you want to find out more about cover-ups in not only the auto industry, but in big business as well. There's a lot of unpleasantries in our country that certain people do not want Joe Bag-o-Doughnuts to know about. Nader's got balls, my friends. Kudos to an unassuming man who truly wants the best for the American public!

Nader has continuously awakened our souls to the obvious wrongs of our government. I applaud him. I now need his help in attacking a problem. I'm appalled that city, state, and federal employees are penalized when it comes to receiving their Social Security benefits. I taught high school English for 25 years and will have worked for 10 years in the private sector prior to my retirement. I just learned that my Social Security benefits will be offset 2/3 ($1,000 benefit would be decreased to $666) because I worked as a teacher at a state public school. How is this fair to those of us who have served this country's children? I have written letters to my congressman and senators and now I want to help create a grassroots movement to have this federal law changed. I need help on how to go about this, so of course, I immediately thought of Ralph Nader. Do you have any suggestions on how I might tackle this issue? Dona
RoseHunter 04/07/2001
I had never been interested in the presidential election. Til last year. Ralph is a true inspiration and hero. I not only voted for him, but I went out and campaigned, too. So he got Bush elected, eh? And Gore couldn't have beaten Bush on his own? That doesn't speak well of him! Ralph for King!

I just want to know if Ralph Nader is happy now that he did everything he could do to make it impossible for Al Gore to win. I hope he is happy now thqt the man that could implement his ideas about the inviornment did not get in and now look who is at the helm. Pardon me while I cought from the bad air we will be getting. He is an amazing man who wants to strengthen democracy for you, for us, for the common citizen. There is not now, nor will there ever be anything wrong with that. He won't fight for you, he'll give you power to fight for yourself. That is amazing, a characteristic and idea that is sadly unique.
glfgal 03/12/2001
He turned into an egotistical maniac during the election... He allowed Bush to become elected just by running and he didn't care... for the first time he let his ego get in the way..The last straw.!! today on Page Six I read where he worships the most over-rated least talented actress in America with big lips, Julia Roberts!! Oh,, Ralph. Where are you?? In a mid-life??????
Arcadion 03/11/2001
If Nader truly cared about the American people and the liberals, he would have STEPPED ASIDE. This election was too close for him to make his ridiculous stand. THANK YOU, Mr. Nader, for giving the country to Dubya so you can feel good about yourself. That was the most selfish, egotistical move I've ever seen a politician make- and that's saying a lot, particularly from a Napoleonic scholar!

I feel sorry for the well-meaning people who joined the Green Party because of this egotistical jerk. Maybe if they had thought about it for more than two seconds, the rest of the country wouldn't have gotten screwed.

Is it possible that he was a front for the Repoublicans? In any case he goes DOWN in history a the spoiler of all tmes and a selfish self ceneterd jerk. His ego is bigger than his ability or concern for the good of the country.
kaosse 01/07/2001
Althogh I really appreciate the effective campaign he ran in 2000, his platform is a laughable recepie for big-government(one of the villains he's always fought against). He helped to galvanize and legitimize the 'green' vote and I hope that continues --- but his ideas on government are a trifle wacky. Take a close look at him yourself. -----

A manipulative hypocrit. Read a good biography of this guy. He underpays and overworks his workforce, denying them the same protection he campaigns to achieve for other workers. He accepts corporate money, refuses to disclose his finances, and abuses "non-profit" organizations his family has direct control over, but likes to wear the white sheet of purity. I bought into it for awhile, until I had my eyes opened to his vision of "righteousness". It's called Get a Good Media Label; the Fools Will Believe It.

It was nice having a Presidential candidate who told the truth for a change. I can understand people who voted for Gore as the lesser of two evils, but the fact is that this reasoning, repeated over and over again, has led to Democratic policies which keep shifting further to the right. Gore and Clinton were better on the environment than Bush is likely to be, but not by nearly as much as people seem to think. It was the Clinton administration which just wrecked the Kyoto talks on greenhouse gases. On foreign policy, Clinton/Gore has often been a disaster from a human rights perspective. They linked us with a series of corrupt Russian oligarchs, thereby helping to convince the Russian people that the alternative to communism is a system which has led to greatly increased poverty and death rates. In Colombia, Clinton waived the human rights requirement for military aid to that death squad regime, which is the sort of thing that liberal Democrats scream about when Republicans do it. In Iraq, Clinton/Gore/Albright have cheerfully defended a sanctions policy which killed hundreds of thousands of children. The fact is that on human rights issues, centrist Democrats tend to be as bad as Republicans. As for the liberals, currently they blame Nader for the Democratic loss, but where have all these loudmouths been when the Clinton/Gore team was acting much like a Bush Administration? Coming back to the domestic front, the Democrats just demonstrated their commitment to the elimination of soft money by appointed McAuliffe (sp?)to be the new party chair. McAuliffe arranged all that semi-corrupt fundraising which the Clinton Administration took to new heights. So to all you Nader-bashing Democrats--grow up. You won't need to worry about Nader "taking votes away" from any Democratic candidate who actually deserves them. Incidentally, on the subject of taking away votes, where has Gore been on the subject of disenfranchised black voters in Florida? He doesn't care--if he showed too much interest in that issue he'd lose more white votes than he would be able to pick up by acting on a matter of principle. This tirade of mine has been mostly on Gore and the failings of the Democrats rather than on Nader's virtues. The reason is that to me, Nader is simply what a politician ought to be--honest and forthright and not worried about offending corporate power. I gave him a five star rating simply because he is so vastly superior to morally corrupt liars like Bush and Gore.
Bosefus 12/16/2000
Socialist, but he did for us Republicans what Perot did for the demos
martymeltz 12/16/2000
Has Nader ever stopped to think that in his efforts to give people alternatives to the Democrats he is effectively assuring that Republicans will control the presidency (and the congress if Nader starts fielding candidates) and the Supreme court into the far future?? Has there ever been anyone so selfish?
Texan 12/12/2000
Ralph, It's time for you to hang it up.
eaglespirit2 12/10/2000
Ralph is obviously a Republican operative. He has given us an environmental nightmare from which we may never awake. So much for the Green Party.... Nader has a serious ego problem. His candidacy was more important to him than the specter of more Supreme Court justices being appointed, drilling for oil in Alaska, the destruction of our economy and of Medicare....I could go on....but I am too sick at heart to continue. I used to respect Nader. Now I loathe him.

Ralph Nader's political party has their heart in the right place. To those who say he took votes from Gore: if Gore did loose the election, it will allow the democratic party to do some house cleaning on their issues. Nader isn't just about teh environment, though. His ideas on economics are incredible and his education plans are the smartest things I've ever heard. Were he elected though, the still growing Green Party's spirit would be crushed by the oppressive Congress in place. These next four years will give the Green Party time to develope into a larger and more well-known organization and perhaps try to get representitives elected into the legislative branch of Congress.
ekkir 11/30/2000
Only one thing I can't understand, why did Nader in effect give away the power to Bush...The worst possible candidate for the position as president. Did we learn nothing from the Ross Perot-incident? He gave us the election two times, we did not have to return the favor.
Cassie94 11/29/2000
The only good things I have to say is that at least he is honest. I'd vote for him before I'd vote for Gore (if I were put in that horrible situation). If only if he got his 5% he'd be happy and there wouldn't be this election mess.(gave him an extra star for taking votes away from Gore)
