I cannot understand why this man is on tv. And we get it, Jay Leno owns a lot of cars. It's really simple, just read the very good reviews of Jay Leno on this site and check out their grammar versus the people who can't stand him. The latter are far more educated. For the people that love jay Leno latter refers to the last subject expressed in a previous sentence. Still not following me? You must love him then. For people with a brain, it's painful, he's more pretentious than anyone I've ever known, and has NO TALENT. He's smug, and his humor is sometimes offensive even, and not because it's just so bad, but that it's totally inappropriate. TV altogether is death. Conan O'Brian is the only talk show worth watching, as Letterman also has gotten so bad, and jaded as well. Carson Daly is just an idiot, and Greg Kilbourne thinks he's God. This country needs some serious ass kicking. Man, if only artists, and real writers controlled the airwaves.
nickkicksass 04/28/2004
He is really funny! Love his show! Way better than Letterman! He does try a bit too hard for laughs sometimes, but the times he's made me laugh so hard I am on the floor makes up for it!
Redoedo 04/03/2004
Amusing and witty at times, but he often seems too desperate for a laugh. It just seems like he tries too hard. He's OK but I would generally prefer Letterman.
tototoo 03/31/2004
Like his humor and think he's a nice guy.

Reading other people's poor opinions of what Leno has turned into is like a breath of fresh air ... I was beginning to think I was the only person in the universe who has been absolutely dumbfounded at how bad the Tonight Show is in 2004. There is not enough room to go into the reasons Leno is terrible ... he has spent so many years dumbing down his act that I think he has truly forgotten what funny is. The kicker is, Leno used to be funny as heck when he was Carson's substitute host. But now it's painful and embarrassing to watch him... the repeated, spoon fed punchlines ... Leno has apparently forgotten what Carson never did, and that is not everyone watching at home is as dumb as the studio audience. Carson's comedy was good on two levels... he could deliver the corny punchlines while subtly still staying connected to the viewer whose IQ is higher than 3. With Leno, there is only one level. There is no ironic detachment ... there is just nothing there. And the sad thing is, there used to be. Leno used to be a great comedian. What he's turned into is nothing short of sad. I can only wonder what Carson must think of what Leno has done to the show he dedicated his life to.

I for one, really miss Johnny Carson. I remember I was about 8 years old when Johnny went off the air. I used to enjoy the Tonight Show, every now and again my Mom would let me stay up to watch it, or tape it for me. It was always a treat when I got to watch Johnny. When he retired, I was mad. I thought to myself Why? Why is the guy from the Dorito's commercials taking Johnny's place?!. There was a time when the Tonight Show was THE show. Careers were made on that show. If you did good on The Tonight Show, you were made! Now? The Tonight Show is a joke. Jay is just a cowardly little puppet. Bland jokes, tepid deliveries, and the way he comments on his jokes after they're finished just SCREAMS please like me! As many others have stated, his punchlines are stale and can be seen coming from miles away. At least Johnny had the good sense to not overstay his welcome. He went out on top. I wish the same could be said for Leno, but he STILL kept on going after that first week. Geez.
Cosmo Renfro 03/12/2004
Leno is terrible! His jokes are corny and his set ups for them are too predictable. I know what he's gonna say before he says it. I highly recomend that you don't watch him he's not entertaining at all. If you already watch him, I'd hate to see what else you laugh at. Letterman's the way to go, or Conan.
chrisk1177 03/09/2004
Do people actually think he's funny? He's a kiss up to anyone and everyone hollywood.
buckey 01/30/2004
Homophobic, but funny as hell...
melott 01/26/2004
Two things. First, somebody should turn the mic on him for the Jay-walking segment, I don't think he knows the answers to those questions either. Second, all the guy wants to do during an interview is get to the next break. Why is he in such a hurry?
jgls 12/22/2003
shrill, unfunny, a lousy interviewer, and totally untalented.
a1mc 11/24/2003
Now here is where I go since Letterman has dried up.
PhranqQ 11/24/2003
Okay, I am admittedly a fan of both Jay and Conan. But there is a big reason that i think people tend to overlook. Jay take more of a political stance on things. He'll break down the government or figures and such and make it amusing. Conan on the other hand is more of a off the wall goof. Both can be funny and both can make you wonder what they are on and why a segment was ever considered for public airing. its all about taste. some people like the goof view of things and other like a more settle or meaningful view. either way, both are the best of Late Night.
President -X-D 10/10/2003
He's great at delivering David Letterman's material.
markinithaca 10/09/2003
Can I please give Jay Leno negative five stars just to lower his ranking? Sweet lord, he is the worst. Every so often, when I'm feeling masochistic or when a guest I really like is appearing, I tune in to the Tonight Show and see what the sychophantic giggle-meister is up to. Mostly, what he's up to is sucking. Even Dubya could learn a thing or two about sucking from Jay Leno. When I watch Leno in an "interview" I imagine what certain celebrities who have to withstand his lame barbs and fake-friendly pats on the arm are thinking. "Make it stop" comes to mind. Just watch the expressions of barely contained annoyance on a non-ass-kissing guest's face as Jay refuses to let go of some stupid jokey premise. It'll probably happen on tonight's show. It's happened on every show I've ever watched). When Letterman was out sick earlier this year, I watched a number of the shows hosted by "friends of the show." A lot of the shows were awkward, but at least the temporary hosts (like Luke Wilson and Bonnie Hunt) were able to acknowledge that they were awkward and underqualified. I wonder if Leno, deep down in his gut, ever wishes to be put out of his misery. The thing that bothers me most is that a truly talented and funny person could actually make something great out of the time slot. It's a shame. So that's why I think Jay Leno sucks. Wow. I feel a whole lot better now.
JorganVonSting le 08/09/2003
Jay is simply the best. What's wrong with him? He's basically a regular guy and he's FUNNY! His show is so great. I don't care what anyone else says. Jay is cool!
Murf 08/02/2003
I think he's very funny and the best late night talk show host.
dovekiller 07/21/2003
Excellent monolog. I usually tune in just for that. But he's a terrible talk show host - puts me to sleep. Great band. I wish they would let them loose on the show once in a while. Maybe they do - I haven't watched a whole show in years.
kolby1973 07/18/2003
Another TV Personality we could do without....how I wished Johnny Carson was still doing this show. As soon as Jay Leno took over, it went downhill within days...literally. It is quite pathetic really.....
sunglazd 07/17/2003
Good, I watch probably 2 nites a week, getting stale however, getting tired of all his 'fat women' jokes, like his wife and himself are slim trim good looking people--NOT!! Too many big butt jokes about Jennifer Lopez, it is like--who really cares now, and isn't he smart enough to get laughs off of other stuff besides a person's body?
donald Patrick 07/13/2003
I FELT GOOD READING ALL THE COMMENTS ABOUT SMARM MOUTH, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO FOUND CHIN MAN UNFUNNY AND UNLIKEABLE. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE STAY EMPLOYED??
tinnlyrd 06/01/2003
Seems like a nice guy but he has a liberal vent because his feminist wife wears the pants and gives him walking orders to have talking points. In other words,he's kitty whipped.hehe!
PaulRudolf 05/10/2003
Jay is a F***ING COWARD. Always seeking the safe middle ground, always afraid of alienating some viewer group, and obsessed about his image and his ratings. His targets are very carefully chosen- Osama, Saddam, Clinton, and lately, the French. And his very predictable jokes are varations on the same theme -- over and over again, night after night. And when he does decide to get a little daring..like target Bush for instance, it will be some benign idiotic line about his dim wit ( actually not much worse than his own). Relatively speaking, Conan is so much better ! He has a unique style - of both content and delivery, and actually says things that are funny. Also, just compare the guest interviews of Jay and Letterman. Letterman actually listens to his guests and his razor sharp wit makes it so much more enjoyable. Leno just sits there like an idiot and if the *guest* happens to say something funny, he goes "Oh really, Oh reeeaallly ??" NBC, please get Jay off the air. He is insufferable !!
Paraporcus 05/09/2003
This show is very slow-paced and it always seems like Jay is far ahead of the audience...who seem a bit slow sometimes. Jay basically has a conversation with his guests that, although funny and often times insightful, make you feel like Jay is doing the interview for his own sake, not for the sake of the audience. But I still love Jay's humor and Kevin has talent, but his band seems like they're playing in a different studio from 'Kev.' Other than that, no complaints...it's a good show with a good host.
lukskywlkr. 04/26/2003
Don't find him funny in the least.
Panamama 04/24/2003
I hate the way Jay Leno and his staff constantly think we, the viewing public are stupid morons who only get our news and views from television. everytime something major has happened in the world, Leno and his writers always make a joke about it that doesn't match reality at all. And when Chris Matthews was on the show last week talking about the war in Iraq. That made me sick. Does he really believe what he's saying? And does Leno believe him? I believe thay've lost touch with reality and the true mood of the viewing public.
CatherineDeBar a 04/23/2003
As it says in this rating box - Terrible!
SaddamBinLaden 04/12/2003
I had to give this guy a star? Here's the deal. Leno sucks. He sucks bad. I agree with everyone else who says they haven't laughed at a thing on that show and don't generally enjoy it. The whole show is canned and predictable junk. The skits are generally boring and unexciting. The crowd doesn't sound like they are into the show much, but only reacting to prompts. Rarely entertaining. I tried sitting through a show or two before, but usaully find myself turning it after I cant take it any more which is generally 1 to 2 minutes dosage. Then I get sick. Frankly, if this was just a regular talk show on tv and I had never heard of Jay Leno and saw it for the first time with fresh eyes, I know for sure I would turn the crap off and never watch it again. Would someone else just tell that huge chinned freaked his show sucks? He has absolutely 0 talent and he is so over paid for what he does it's painful to think about. Someone on here said earlier that Conan should take that spot. I 100% agree. Why keep this crap on tv? Is anyone really watching LEno and enjoying it? I know I don't find anything in it that is even slightly enjoyable. Kevin seems pretty nice, but I am sure he can find somewhere else to take his band. Thanks.
mrshatfordshir e 04/10/2003
If I could give less than a star, I would. This guy is just plain awful. I remember I actually paid to see him in the early eighties when he was funny. Now he is simply painful to watch. I'm actually embarrassed to watch the guy. Everything he does is so transparent. And hey, Jay, why don't you try a little harder and kiss up a little more while you're at it. He's so busy trying to "sock it to us" every night that he's forgetting about what's truly funny. Also, enough already with the overwrought sex jokes. I've heard it done much better before. Plus I'm not buying it. I guess I'm disappointed because he's probably still talented - way down beneath all the shmooz and the jazzy jazz jazz. I just don't see it anymore. He's kind of the opposite of Carson. I loved Carson and I love Letterman.
buckwheats 04/04/2003
If it were not for Jay Leno, I would not be able to make it to 2004. His jokes about George Bush make me laugh at disaster in the making. There is very little to laugh about when you are watching the United States going down the toilet-but you can laugh at Jay Leno!
philc 03/30/2003
Gee, I think he's very good. His monologue is funny and he's a good interviewer with fun guests. It's better than Conan and Dave.
Aaron19761955 03/29/2003
Retire please!!!
DonAlejandro 03/27/2003
Jay only has about twelve jokes in his big bag of stink, and none of them are very funny. To save you the anguish and tedium of actually viewing his show, I have provided as a free-of-charge service a list of all the material you might experience on any given Tonight Show: 1) The members of the Tonight Show Band, band leader Kevin Eubanks in particular, smoke marijuana (hilarious), and 2) many of the musicians in the band are African-American (also hilarious). Sometimes both of these facts are hilarious simultaneously. 3) Correspondents with weird voices and/or foreign accents do not need humorous material to be given agonizingly long segments. 4) Bill Clinton (or other celebrity reported as having a sex life) is known to have had sex on numerous occasions. 5) The following topics are inherently funny: boobs, sex, women who reportedly enjoy sex, the word "oral," homosexuality, foreigners and minorities (i.e. not WASPs), and anything else that involves a celebrity and/or might make pubescent kids snicker.
rej59 03/18/2003
Jay is the best night time talk show host.
ratemaster1984 03/01/2003
Give it up, Jay! You're, downright, boring! A day at the dentist is funnier than Jay Leno.
brownin 02/19/2003
I think he is actually very funny in a "crude" sort of way. I actually find him funnier in his delivery of jokes compared to Dave Letterman. I think Dave's TOP TEN list usually is a good laugh but I think Jay and Kevin (Eubanks) have some pretty "crazy" skits at times.
AlphaThetaGamm a 02/15/2003
Jay Leno calls himself a comedian? I don't get it! Why is it Conan O'Brien makes me laugh nearly every night and Jay Leno is just plain old boring? Maybe because one is funny and the other is not. Johnny Carson was funny...bring him back to replace Jay.
leeleeisme 02/05/2003
LENO ROCKS!!!!! That's pretty much all there is to say about it!
Kendra_Cmm 01/19/2003
I don't care what everyone says about Jay. I mean what the hell is so special about Conan anyway? He's big ugly and goofy. He couldn't even keep his co-host. Jay's looks are all part of what make him funny. I think his monologue is hilarious and so is Kevin. Jay doesn't mean harm in his jokes it's just the kind of comedy he does. If you think he's trashy and degrading check out the hosts on The Man Show. Jay Leno IS funny and his guests are all really famous and they do appear on his show don't they? He's not the best at what he does but he deserves more credit than this.
KaylaS 12/29/2002
Can't decide who I dislike more - Leno or Letterman!
xm_711 12/18/2002
So incredibly unfunny, its unbelievable that he's still on television. He's succeeded in show business on pure driven need; he has no talent, he's ugly, and he's obviously not very nice. He makes it apparent to everyone that watches that he thinks *very* highly of his looks, his intelligence, and his ability. He's mistaken on every count. That he's on television at all---much less nightly, national television---is puzzling, troubling, and a waste of a lot of bandwidth. He's turned the franchise that Parr, Allen, and Carson built into the worst 60 minutes on television. Here's hoping he gets what every motocyclist deserves.
ramster 11/13/2002
Occasionally funny, more UNfunny. Can be very insulting and is unoriginal. Yet at times you can find yourself laughing so much as his "Extras" on the show like "Head-lines" and the 5 minutes of comedy he does before the show. Otherwise there are way better comedic tlak shows out there like Letterman.
Disgusting Show 10/31/2002
Jay has no right to be the replacement for Johnny Carson. Jonnie was really funny and got his laughs without all the sexual references. Take away Jay's sexual crap and he would be nothing. Why he was chosen as a host is beyond me. The world is full of funny happenings but Jay sticks to sex as a theme. He must have a real hangup there. A subtle sex joke may be funny but he is anything but subtle.
Fondew1 10/25/2002
The best that can be said of this show and this host is that it gives me a reason to go to bed early.
