It's a place for decent clothes but the quality is nowhere near that produced by Banana Republic Travel & Safari Clothing Co. before this company was taken over by the Gap. I would thoroughly love to find a store that generate clothes of the quality of yonder days.

I have been a regular customer of Banana Republic for years. However, the quality and style of the clothing has diminished while the prices only get higher. I live overseas often forced to order online. The shopping where I live isn't the best. If anyone out there knows of any websites for ordering cool clothes for a young professional in his late twenties let me know.

Love it! I have Banana Republic clothes that have lasted me since I was in high school. The clothes are so classic you can wear them for years and no one will notice they aren't new. That to me makes the high price worth it. I don't understand the people complaining about the clothes being teenybopper, they aren't at all, they have a totally differant target market.

I am a Banana Republic employee, and I emplore you not to shop there. They exploit their workers, forcing us to work longer hours than scheduled (sometimes unpaid) and schedule us at unsafe hours (it is simply dangerous for me to take the NYC subway to work at 3:30 in the morning). The clothing is horrible quality, and it is all made in sweatshops. If employees seem like they are not helpful enough, it is because we are overworked and often cannot attend to customers because we are trying to do the jobs of two people because they won't pay for enough workers (we do not work on comission, so it really doesn't pay for us to spend time with customers). Also, DO NOT GET THE BR CREDIT CARD! The interest rate is sky high and it's just another way for this terrible corporation, Gap Inc, to keep consumers in a spiral of debt.

I am a clothing martier. Banana Republic is great. For young, trendy, professionals this store is a must!
kolby1973 11/28/2003
I just love the Banana ! It is right up there with Ralph Lauren, and even Abercrombie and Fitch. I love to do tons of shopping here, and in fact I was there today ! :)
India-Ink21 11/28/2003
I remember when I first shopped Banana Republic in Philadelphia when they had their catalogues out. Wasn't it travel & safari clothes at a really good price? The store's theme was very different too with a tropical African theme. Now it's overpriced crap.
audrebecca 11/06/2003
Once upon a time, Banana Republic featured one-of-a-kind, top quality travel and safari clothing. Nowadays, go to The Gap or Old Navy, it's all the same junk, you're just paying more for Banana Republic's name. Or hey, why not go the way of Wal*Mart, for that matter!
jcrewjunkie4 09/21/2003
I love Banana Republic. It has high quality, classic clothing that always is original and cute. I love how the clothes fit and retain shape after many washes. Fantastic store, I can't say enough good things about it.
SunNstaRs2003 08/21/2003
Way too expensive! I don't understand how people afford this stuff. And I don't understand why anything should be priced this much, especially when most of the products cost about $2 to make. It's a huge ripoff. People are just paying for a brand name and pathetically, it's just contributing to the deconstruction of America and making people more and more obsessed with their consumer driven lives.
brmuda_mohawk 08/19/2003
one of the reviews here refers to "classic styles of the best quality".apparently, they have bananaLand confused with somehwere else. It's basically the same crap you find at Gap or OldNavy, but priced wayyyyy the hell higher...and STILL just as lousy. Go somewhere that doesn't suck.
kmg1171 08/12/2003
Boring, unimaginative clothes for women, but looks good on men, just like the Gap and J Crew. Guess? is a much better choice for women.

I've been a loyal cusotmer of Banana Republic up until I had to cancel my Ban. Rep. credit card. The company had me send my payments to the wrong address and blamed me for two payments (60 days late) when I thought the account had been paid. When I spoke to customer service I wasn't helped and the company reported it ti the credit agencies. I've been trying to clear for months now, but all i get is these generic computer automated letters that state "they have reported accurate info." This is a sign of the Banana Republic's deteriorating customer service and quality. I will never buy and much less apply for their credit card co. which is run by Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia.

Store is very five flavors, meaning you can expect to see the same limited color palette on all their designs. Reliably trendy, sophisticated yet casual enough. In spite of the quality, the prices they ask for their simple, sharp designs are generally high. Prices on new items are lowered after a few weeks, yet real bargains are in short supply. But if dressing to impress your dates is highly important to you, you might be enjoy splurging there.
mandie2000 06/07/2003
There is nothing special about Banana Republic. They do have cute clothes, but you can get the same thing some where else for a lot cheaper.
Vegascfs 06/06/2003
i like the clothes, but some of the employees have got to go; specifically, some of the ones in the caesars forum shops in las vegas. these workers are terrible snobs and flat-out refuse to acknowledge shoppers. the hell??? hello, maybe commission? maybe, make some cash off me? maybe, i don't know, acknowledge me while i'm clearly in need of help? while i'm standing 2 feet away from them? i've been ignored by workers on numerous times while actually buying things there and it really pisses me off. the redesign of the forum store was a big plus (putting all the women's stuff on the ground floor and men's upstairs), but the snobbery continues unabated and i really hate going there because of it. the frustrating thing is that it has some of the best clothes in the city (of the chain), so one has to grit one's teeth and shop. i wish i could buy enough of their clothes to stop and make a dent in their sales, but alas.. i'm just a poor college girl with decent taste.
The_Decockster 04/21/2003
The clothes are too boring for me, but maybe when I'm older I'll be in to them...
janey 04/12/2003
to everybody that says that banana republic is too expensive... companies have target markets. this particular company's targeted segment of the population is not teenagers or "teeny boppers" (i'm not saying that they don't want teenagers to shop there, they just aren't focused on them). it is for a slightly older, higher class of individuals. if you can't afford to shop at banana republic then simply don't shop there.
Southga 04/10/2003
You can't beat it!
BR Grrrl 04/09/2003
Expensive? I guess it all depends on your perspective. Compared to Gucci and Calvin Klein, 2 minimalist design houses, BR is the best deal going for buying the basics -- good prices, great colors, timeless designs to mix with designer pieces.
deanhockfan 02/24/2003
VERY CHEAPLY MADE
BugahaNE 02/09/2003
I love Banana Republic.
riley 01/17/2003
Banana Republic was once one of the most original stores around. Quasi-safari/outdoor clothes that no one else had yet didn't make the wearer look like an Indiana Jones wannabe. The original store in SF was pretty wild. Then the founding couple sold it and now its become some generic teeny bopper store. BR, A&F, J. Crew, what's the difference. Thankfully Travelsmith picked up a little from the old BR.

How can you not like Banana Republic it is a great store
dmben 12/22/2002
Awsome store everything is great and from staff to presentation and one can always find something to get with each visits - note the blazers are key
Hollycat01 11/05/2002
I can't believe anyone would want to shop at this store. One of my friends and I went in there to buy a shirt we saw in one of their window displays. The size in the display was my friends size and there weren't anymore on the floor. When we asked an employee to get it out of the window she gave us a blank stare like we were scum of the earth. She told us they can't take anything out of the window. Being a former employee of Gap, Inc I knew they could sell the display (all the policies are the same for Banana, Gap, and Old Navy). After fighting with the employee and resorting to speak with the manager (who wasn't happy with her employee) we finally got the shirt out of the window. When the original girl went to ring us up she almost had a heart attack when my friend pulled out her employee discount card. Needless to say I will never EVER shop at Banana Republic again.

i think that banana republic is sort of blan and at such high prices they should come up with more exciting...but not tackey , clothing . and i think ide like the store better thats all
LincolnLSGirl 05/10/2002
Awsome store! if you are going to complain about the prices, find a different store or get a better job.
oodie 04/19/2002
pretentious and lame. clothes for spoiled teenage girls and college chicks who like the spice girls and madonna.
callmetootie 04/07/2002
Banana Republic has good quality clothing, but not enough of a variety. Pale, gray clothing is the only thing that they carry, and the sizes run shorter then they are noted by.
irene_lvs_ep_1 3 02/22/2002
Banana R. is ok but its mainly for older people like people who are outta college and have jobs this is the place for you to go buy clothes but right now since i'm a teen those clothes don't strike me yet and if you ask me they're a little high!
GeeImSexy83 12/30/2001
When I went to this store, I found the workers to be extremely friendly and helpful, which I loved. I think they have great, classy clothing, but I will agree that they do need to step up their selection, even though there is a lot in the store I really like. I will agree it is a little more costly than most "mall" stores, but their clothes are fit better, and made better...they're quality.
Galomorro 11/25/2001
Boring. Nothing was in my size, there wasn't much to choose from, and everything was beige or black!
lancebassnum1f an 03/11/2001
there ok

Great clothes but they are too expensive!

I recently went to Banana Republic and if it wasn't for a sweater I found on a sales rack, I wouldn't have found anything that I would want to purchase. And, it had nothing to do with prices (which were pretty high). I could have had $500 in cash to spend as I wanted, and all I could have found to purchase would have been the sweater, a pair of khakis and maybe a jacket. Maybe I'm a little too conservative, but all of the shirts and sweaters seemed way too cheesy. If Wiggum's characterization of shoppers is correct, I guess I'm still stuck in high school or college because I would rather shop at The Gap or Old Navy.
SamIAm 10/10/2000
Quality clothing, stylish, classic. Banana Republic has long been "THE" place to find classic styles of the best quality. It is pricey, but well worth it.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 08/27/2000
I agree with a previous poster that Banana Republics stuff is pretty generic but I still like their stuff and would rather shop there than the gap for the most part. Although they are also a little more expensive.
leelanau 07/07/2000
The clothes aren't sooooooo pretty. You can buy things like that in any clothes store of the world, paying the third part of those extremely expensive clothes!!! PLEASE!! If you want the little name "Banana Republic", take a pencil and put it on your clothes!!!
five7297om 06/10/2000
It's a little expensive!

the selection and prices are competitive and of good quality.

I love Banana. It has everything from nice to casual clothes. It is a little expensive but their clothes last forever. I can always find great basics at BR.
mandango 04/13/2000
Banana Republic used to be cooler when it was a travel-and-safari catalog started by the Zieglers. Now it's just one of a thousand generic mall shops. But at least in its present incarnation, the name does fit.
cmur3733om 01/21/2000
Depends on which store you're in. San Francisco has a great flagship store, but in some malls the selection can be terrible.
