He has such a presence on stage and he can go from extremely high notes to extremely low. Plus, he is (or at least was) a very good singer. His performance of the old classic 'Money, That's What I Want' from Festival Express is by far the most wicked fucking thing I've ever seen.

He's an entertainer too, and stone cold blues when he wants to be.

This guy plays like most bluesmen think they can. He can bend strings in a way they were never meant to go and he gets away with stuff no one else even tries. Add to that his unique and brilliant voice and you have something special.

Saw him live a couple of times. Electrifying performances, with him abandoning the stage for twenty minutes, pushing through the crowd playing a blazing guitar and singing. Invaded the bar, the lobby, the balcony in an exhibition of showmanship I have seldom seen.

A legend in the truest sense of the word.

I do like Buddy- I think he's a terrific act, but I don't find him among the list of the greatest bluesmen. . .he's good but not great. . .this is no slight against him, but I save the 5-star ratings for Hooker, Waters, and Wolf. . .

Saw him at Blue Chicago about 5 years ago. Didn't know who he was at the time, but I remember thinking that it was the best live music I had ever heard. "Damn Right, I got the Blues"!

I had the pleasure of seeing this man at a free concert in Indianapolis on Labor Day, 2005. He was absolutely brilliant. Even though he's in his late 60's , he STILL plays the guitar like you wouldn't believe. I have some old videos of him in the 60's and early 70's, and let me tell you, there are very, very few guitarists of any genre that can even dream of being close to him talent wise, and the number of players as good or better is an absurdly tiny club.

His recordings don't do him justice. Go see him live, best live blues performer I have ever seen. Great guitar player.

I had the great pleasure of drinking a beer in this guys presence and eavesdrop on his conversation. Didn't understand a damn word he said. He took the stage a half hour later and smoked the place. It's impossible to capture what this trubadour does on a record. SEE HIM LIVE!
