Not being a big fan of the genre by any stretch of the imagination, I can't objectively judge any blues musician. Nevertheless, I will say that "Strong Persuader" (1986), the album that broke Robert Cray into the mainstream, is one strong release. This album includes his two most known singles "Smoking Gun" and "Right Next Door (Because Of Me)" as well as the highly recommended "Fantasized". Cray's voice is smooth and his guitar clean, a nice combination.

I've tried to enjoy Robert Cray, but haven't been able to get into his music. I recognize his talent, but it just doesn't move me that much.

His crisp guitar style is among the best and his voice has just added a little grit on his latest album, "Take Your Shoes Off".
