they are best

This is a dark day, as with other loyal fans of Metallica, I am split between their genius in the 80's and their selling out in the 90's. They were destined for greatness. Too bad all of their great songs were at the beginning of their career. They had some good hits in the 90's, but as a whole, load and reload sucked. Even the Black album, which for some reason, everyone considers their greatest album, shows evidence of their gradual decline. For me Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are the greatest ever. Two classics any metal lover should know and appreciate.

They are amazing. I think their Black album is their best. Their lyrics have so much meaning to them..an they are one of the greatest bands ever!

The five is for stuff like Master of Puppets and the Black album. St. Anger sucked.

This rating is a rating for what metallica stand for and play today, not their output in the eighties which is amazing. Metallica should be should be split into two bands for rating purpses: Metallica 1981 - 1992. and Metallica 1993 - Present.

along with pantera, they rank as the most atrocious metal band ever. period

Although they have totally disappointed me gradually since the Black Album (the last I liked). I cannot throw them a negative feedback, because I really enjoyed listening all the good music they made when they really rocked. They are one of the best bands ever. At the end they became a marketing crap band, but I remember the good they did, not the bad. Thanks Metallica!!!

Ride the lightning Kill em all Justice Master of Puppets Thats Metallica...It has nothing to do with the Napster thing asshole so just admit it Metallica now sucks their music is crapppppp and their following is sort of a fake me out crowd. Best band from the 80's to present.

Thought they were special-profound-before the Black LP but such a thought is pretty cliche these days huh (cliches do become so for a reason tho remember)?: I'm sorry, tho my allegiance to their early years is undying, I've just gotta give'em a 1 for the jokes they've been playing since AJFA. They were once metal gods-now they're feaux-metal servants-or demigods- depending on the perspective.

Metallica is a great band. Most of their material is really good but I don't care for St. Anger all that much. In fact St. Anger pretty much sucks all the way around, but I can't give them a bad rating for just that album. At least they are still a band

metallica kicks ass. they put out some of the best music ever created. True, they did soften up mid way through the 90's but it still kicked ass. and IM SICK AND TIRED of people giving them a 1 because lars spoke out against napster. that has NOTHING to do with the music they put out so dont say they suck because of it. and they didnt want more money! they are set for life. they didnt want it to become so hard for new good bands to make money for themselves becuase record sales would be low. so shut the hell up

I like their older music better, but I saw them at a concert last year and they still know how to rock the house!!

I hate it when old-school headbangers say everything after Justice sucks. That's b.s. Metallica still rules. Sure, Load and Reload were a lot different than the old stuff, and St. Anger is way different than any of it, but true fans appreciate it all. It's okay not to like some of their stuff, I don't listen to all their stuff, but don't turn your back on them now. Also, Robert Trujillo is cool but he doesn't fit into the band like Jason Newsted did. I miss Jason.

Older stuff was better, hands down. But, honestly, their new stuff can't compare and their negativity towards their fans (now ex-fans) with the Napster mess was pretty lame (don't they think people recorded the songs off the radio when they had tape recorders on stereos? Suing your fans is pretty crappy.

These guys were good like 15 years ago. I boycott them now for lameO Lars becoming a kiss ass puppy for the record industry. "You and your record company are overpaid as it is!" And your last like four records sucked!

I never really LOVED Metallica in general, but I did like ENTER SANDMAN, it was an awesome dance song. And as for their views on Napster, I don't really blame them for being angry, even if they did go a little overboard with it. I think anyone would be angry if their lyrics and music were STOLEN against your will.

In the '80s, they were amazing. In the '90s, they were OK. Now, they're horrible.

These guys rock. Get over the whole napster thing, folks - pay for your music like everyone else. Coupled with the San Francisco Symphony on S&M, they're fantastic. It's a good combination of metal and classical - both of which I like.

They only get a 2 from me, even though I loved them so much prior to the Black Album. They are such whores, and Lars Ulrich is the most overrated drummer in history. He really is a terrible drummer, as anyone with the slightest musical knowledge can plainly hear. The eye makeup was a stupid idea, and they went from influencing every popular metal band to copying every popular metal band. Seriously, their new album is nu-metal at its very worst. Nice try, losers.

I have to say that these guys are legend. They inspired me to organize a band in which I am lead guitarist and learned by playing Metallica and Led Zepplin over and over again untill i had mastered the riffs. These guys are the kings of heavy metal. nuf said

Dug the theme to the movie - that one where Hetfield does the "hey,hey,hey" Fat Albert thing. That one seemed like they had a fat backbeat. Other than that, they sound too stiff and white suburb. Hetfield can actually carry a tune but the curly-headed guy sucks as a lead guitar player. And Lars is godawful as a drummer and as a spokesman. That napster thing sucked. "This generation's Led Zeppelin"? Put down the pipe, choad smoker.

METALLICA FREAKING RULES!!! Nothing is heavier, nothing gets you going like this. Loud and Proud, even their lowest work is better then the crap bands try to put out now. And Justice for All is the best album ever. Everyone only knows the Black but their older stuff is the best.

I like metallica. but they suck in a way. they sued some store for having a brand of eye shadow called metallica. and they made a huge deal about napster.

Whoa, all you Metallica people are really pissed off about this napster thing that happened. Ancient history now and so is NAPSTER!! I never thought you should be able to download music for free!! And Im still playing the bars for take home pay of 100-200 a night! I sure as hell wouldnt want somebody to come see my band for free. I even charge friends and family something if they want to hire my band.. its business!! It took me a while but these guys just grew on me becuse they did Dark Metal well. And very few bands had a pulse for their fans like Metallica does. They get high marks on my list!

Gotta say it - early stuff is still the best. Kill em All - Good.Ride the Lightning is still my fave album. Puppets, Justice, Black album - all great. Last few good. Still a club member, lets hope the next album reinstates their greatness.

I have mixed feelings about Metallica. They've got some really great songs, but too much crappy tunes. Lars Ulrich is an idiot.

Regardless of the Napster brouhaha, Metallica is garbage. Plain and simple. I'd give these losers zero stars if I could.
