Trully great band. If they would have bowed to corporate pressure like most bands they would have been much more successful.

more influental than REM and U2 combined in the 1980s. never a popular band but one of the best in that decade.

Kind of like the Pixies, this is a band that I should like more than I do. Just about every band that I have fallen for lists the Replacements as one of their seminal influences. People whose taste in music is exceptional routinely list this band as their favorite. But they've never really done it for me. The closest I came to getting into this band was about a 3 month period where I played Paul Westerberg's solo album repeatedly.

They have talent, but no discipline. In this, they're wasting both their time and ours.

I bought "Tim" a few weeks ago, primarily because it is my first name, but I'd also heard good things about the band. Every time I listen to the Replacements (I'd be a poser if I called them the "'Ments" like Ruby and Shafty) they amaze me more and more. Strong songs with good melodies and good feelings- Westerberg's voice has such vigor and strength. A new favourite band.

They were great on All Shook Down, Tim & Pleased To Meet Me. They had more than their fair share of highlights on their earlier albums as well. Don't Tell A Soul was terrible.

Destined to be a little footnote in rock history, but the Mats were the soundtrack to my teenage years. "Let It Be" and "Tim" were great teen angst records for people who really struggled with their teen angst (as opposed to wearing it like a trendy badge like the Cure, etc.). And their drunken live shows (Beacon Theater July '87 lives forever in my memory) were the first real taste of rock attitude I'd ever seen. Remember, these were the days of Poison and Bon Jovi...

Best put by someone close to me, "The Replacements is greatest rock band of all time that never made it." Really, they had the lyrics, the beat and the timelessness that endure.

Wow - What a band!! The Big Star influnce was apparent in a lot of the 'Ments' songs. Westerberg is showing his age recently in his solo endeavors. Went to one Replacements show when I was 18 and Jesus - it was such a great rock and roll adventure. they really left their guys on the stage (Figuratively - but I am sure they have puked on stage before also).
