Talented musicians, granted, but if I never have to sit through another airing of one of their interminable, overwrought songs, it'll be too soon.
Miles Teg 01/12/2005
love em. not sure about that classically trained tho as i don't believe they were.
ClassicTVFan47 11/20/2004
Highly overrated group with plodding, strange, and sometimes dark lyrics.
helmut 10/19/2004
Queen is the greatest band ever. Mabye it was because they were classicly trained. I find Queen and others so superior to most of the music that is popular today. These artists have others write there music for them, probably because they have diffaculty just playing the music without having to write it. Don't get me wrong, there are some good musicians out there, but they are getting fewer and fewer.
CapAnson 09/17/2004
Freddie Mercury is probably the most talented vocalist in rock history. Could have been an opera singer.
darko_devotchk a 07/30/2004
All 4 members of Queen were very talented and also very brilliant, great songwriters and musicians. I prefer their later albums more than the earlier ones, though, such as News of the World and The Game. Awesome band.
Mint 04/14/2004
Were the most entertaining live rock band in history and never feared to be original or radical. Created some of the best albums and singles in history and were rightly one of the most successful bands of all time. Personal fave albums: A night at the opera and Innuendo RIP Freddie Mercury

Eh theyre OK

On the plus side at least Queen are instantly recognisable and not just one of the multitude of faceless, forgettable and forgotten bands that have been and gone. On the downside I find most of their music overproduced, bombastic and pretentious what with all the cod-opera dramatics on albums like 'Night at the opera' and 'Day at the races'. Occasionally, when they stripped the sound down to the bare bones like on 'Another one..' and 'Crazy little thing ..' they could be quite good.

To start with a general observation, comments such as Freddie is God or Queen sucks doesn't help me write my own comment, help others learn something about the artist, or add anything to your star rating. With that said, Queen was not a generic 1970's classic rock band. They were glam, but not quite glam. They were hard rock, but not quite hard rock. They were prog rock, but not quite prog rock. If I had to sum up the Queen sound, the band's music was big, epic... almost as if Meat Loaf was a band fronted by a completely different vocalist in the form of the equally irrepressible Freddie Mercury. Everyone and their dead grandmother know most of Queen's signature songs (eg Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, and Another One Bites The Dust); however, even the most casual fan will soon start to wonder what gems may be included on some of the full-length releases as opposed to just being limited to one of the available compilations. If one is inclined to supplement such a compilation, a good place to start is The Game (1980) and A Night At The Opera (1975).

Queen is very popular still so I hear. I'm a bit too young to remember that era, but I've heard, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, and Bicycle Race. I really like them, and they seem like a good group.

Today's bands have a lot to learn from 70s masterminds like Queen. Their music stretched boundaries not only in song structure but in musicianship as well. There was more creativity in one Queen song than there is in alot of the current crop of band's entire library of work. What's most amazing to me is that Queen were very young yet were able to craft music in a truly daring and groundbreaking way.

WHEN THEY SAID "WE WILL ROCK U" THEY WERNT KIDDIN .
alty6905 09/07/2003
Freddy Mercury is the greatest rock singer and frontman of all time. Brian May is also one of the best guitars.
Freddieisthebe st 08/22/2003
Freddie Mercury -How can anyone have such a voice? It`s magic! Buying a Queen album is saving money: If you will buy for example Innuendo you wouldn`t feel the urge to buy anything else for a very long time-because the music simply doesn`t get boring-listen to it over and over again you will always find something new! But I have to warn you: Maybe your musical taste gets spoiled forever so that you are never again really satisfied with anything else than Queen!
Moosekarloff 08/18/2003
Juvenile, overproduced, derivative, overemotional dreck. One of the worst, overrated bands ever. Amazing this piss-poor crew of no-talents ever made the Big Time, but considering how the record industry evaluates the worthiness of musicial acts, these supposed detriments probably worked out to be assets. That Freddie Mercury sounded every bit the fairy he was: gushing, maudlin, fawning, castrated. This is music for those who are fascinated and mystified by novelty: nothing genuine about this trash, except that it's genuinely obnoxious.
NinaVagina 08/10/2003
I LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE QUEEN!!! How can anybody NOT love Queen? They're the GREATEST band in history!
slappyp 07/10/2003
Overrated in my book. Sorry, death seems to do that to certain bands.

queen is awesome! 10 years ago i didn't want to learn how to ride my bike. then i heard the song My Bicycle and the same day i rode my bike. queen will always be awesome!

It's Queen, nuff said!

OK, I finally purchased that compilation album of Queen. And you know, to be honest, I could never really find anything wrong with this band. I felt their music had great energy and driving force behind it. A true original band who probably deserves so much more recognition than what they get. I loved several of the early 80's tracks that I listened to as well. HOWEVER I did find one song I did not care for, and that was the soundtrack theme song of Wayne's World, BOHEMIAN RAPHSODY, YUCKO ! Never cared for it, way too long and Freddie does not sound like himself at all. But overall, GOOD band. :)
mrkent 06/28/2003
Wow!! What a band, very inlighting and progressive.
JimmyInAtlanta 06/21/2003
Loved "Under Pressure" and "Another 1 Bites the Dust" and their earlier stuff was good, but those gay vocal tracks bugged the hell outta me. The band seems way overrated - more like Styx than like The Who. Cheesy lyrics. But B. May and Freddie were great musicians tho
jaspirtaint 06/10/2003
Some people have some pretty lame excuses for giving Queen low ratings like "my 'old man' plays them all the time, or 'I don't like it when they make money after a member dies'" First of all, Nirvana capitalized on Kurt's death by re-releasing some old crap with ONE (as in ONE) new song, whereas Queen released a WHOLE ALBUM of songs after Freddie's death that Freddie worked hard to finish so that the band could complete and give them some degree of closure. Queen made original music, had a unique style, put on a great show, and were talented musicians.
Robbie W luva 06/02/2003
Queen are really good but not when you have to listen to them 24/7 being played by your old man!
DrFeelgood03 05/22/2003
You gots to love them...One of the greatest
Simmer 05/15/2003
Queen is my favorite band of all time. Freddie Mercury is still the best singer I have ever heard in my life and he was a great showman/ entertainer. May he rest in peace... Brian May is a terrific guitarist, Roger Taylor a very good drummer and John Deacon could create some fantastic basslines. And all four of them wrote big hits. Where do you find that nowadays? Bohemian Rhapsody will always be the nr.1 song for me... and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who thinks that way. It's in a league of his own. We Will Rock You & We Are The Champions will always be there on the great sports events. What I try to say... Queen unfortunately ended in 1991 but their music still lives on forever!!
kingronnie 05/08/2003
Genius, lead by Freddie. One of the most versatile and talented bands of all time.
Redoedo 05/03/2003
Come on, Queen is a classic band and they deserve their high spot on this list. "We Are the Champions" is probably their best song- and its my most favorite. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is also a classic one. "We Will Rock You!"- Queen most definately did that! "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Who Wants to Live Forever" are also good songs.
bk76 04/22/2003
Band kicks ass. Freddie is the greatest singer and Brian probly 4 on greatest guitarest. They invented alot of sounds that were never heard before. If you listen to Queen2 and don't skip songs it is just a kick ass album. Also Queen 1,Sheer Heart Attack, A Day at the Races,A Night at the Opera, News of the world and Jazz are al great alubums.
Medusa1861 04/17/2003
Stupid name, good music.. YEAH!!!

They are way before my time but "We will rock you" and "We are the champions are great songs".

the ultimate what can I say too bad never saw them live!
Keetsula 03/14/2003
Queen produced many terrific records and soundtracks. One of my favorite movies is the original Highlander. Their original soundtrack rates an A+ as far as I'm concerned. Their vocals are passionate and solid. To Freddy Mercury, rest in peace, man. You are still a champion.
DOOOOOLING 02/28/2003
Queen Greatest Hits is a prerequisite for any decent music collection.

Greatest Band, Live Band, musicians of all time. Live Aid - greatest ever performance by any Band Musician, nothing has come close since.
magician9675 01/21/2003
You've got to be kidding! This is one one the most important and progressive bands ever to hit the stage! There will never be another Freddy!
tvadamo12 01/19/2003
What can be said about Queen? Mercury was a genius - a word I don't use lightly. Absolutely on-par with Bach & Beethoven. Brian May is the best guitarist ever, sorry all you Clapton-heads. The only negative I can think of regarding this band is that they can never perform again. Sing for God, Freddie.
thesmartone 01/13/2003
Made some really good over the top songs. Also they are better than the Bangles ;)
sjdawes 12/18/2002
Some great moments, some poor. Still, can't see why the Bangles rate better.
