I like her old cheesy hits with Sonny and also by herself. Gypsy, Tramps, and Thieves among others. However, the stuff she has made since the 80's has been downright embarassing! She gets 3 stars grudgingly and only for her 60's-70's material.

01/29/2003 | Cher can sing and act with the best of them. From the Sonny and Cher days to "If I Could Turn Back Time," her voice has always had a lot of power, clarity, and confidence. Then there are her tremendous performances in "Mask" and "Moonstruck" (she did a better NYC Italo-American than Nicolas Cage did, and he's Italian but she isn't). She obviously doesn't get the credit she deserves. Maybe the association with the Sonny and Cher Show, now considered a prime example of 70's kitsch, is casting a shadow on her image. Also, some people don't think it's becoming for a woman of her age to still be strutting her stuff like she does. Regardless of what people think of her personality, there's no denying her talent.

01/02/2003 | Im old enough to remember Cher from the beginnings. Ive always been amazed at how she stuck around so long. I truly believe if she had not broke into acting (I feel this is her strong suite, not singing) she would have not have made it throught the eighties. She had just enough charm and looks (i dont see that even) to keep the right people giving her favors. Bedding down with interesting people will keep you in the news and she did plenty of that too. Gotta give her credit for longevity in spite of a pool of MEDIOCRE talent at best!

I'm only a kid. n not to be like-- but i do understand what u are saying. i understand her career. i LOVE cher ! i have been to so many of her concerts and i watch alomst everything shes on. i no alomost everything about her, i ahve all her movies. n i thnik shes the best ! shes like my idol. n alot of kid in my grade do make fun of me for likeing cher and they critacize her. n it hurts me bc they dont understand her career like you said. BUt i do. i love cher and i alwasy will i think shes the best

04/02/2002 | A great singer, actress, and yes, contrary to what some of you have said, beauty. She had an amazing body which she was able to show off durring her Sunny and Cher Show days, and has managed to keep fit, even if she has had a suck and tuck here and there. A true great!

02/23/2002 | Certainly seems to fall into the category of "been there, done that" and undeniably some things far better than others. Cher is kind of an enigma who has had both huge successes and crashing failures as she has darted in and out of the public eye over the years. She is at once a passable yet not-really-too-great singer, for the most part an above average actress, and seems to have some common sense in spite of a tendency to embrace plastic surgery with nearly the same religious zeal (if not somewhat less tragic outcome) of Michael Jackson. I appreciated her recent remarks concerning reality TV when she said something to the effect…why do these people enjoy making fools of themselves? Although I may have taken those comments more seriously if she did not appear to have half her original face now residing behind her head.

In this world you can't have the following that Cher does yet still maintain titles along the lines of "mediocre". Cher is not only an accomplished actress but a gifted performer. I guess it must be all that plastic surgery that doesn't allow her to have natural facial movements, crimping her ability to sing clearly by restricting facial movement primarily to the mouth area. Look at the faces of other singers when they perform and you will see their cheeks, eyes and forhead move accordingly. With Cher its like a robot. She's past fifty and needs to give up quest for eternal youth. She should accept her aging with grace and dignity instead of trying to be like Britney or Christina. Bah!

09/26/2000 | A true great, I have to agree that the youth don't understand her career. Rock star, oscar, grammy, her own TV show, twice. The tragedy of Cher is that after such a great career, she has allowed the pariahs of business to rob her blind. The poor old girl has to still ride a tour bus to eat. I am sure she does not enjoy being insulted by snot nose kids, any more than they speciously percieve being insulted by her. For those of us that were there, she will always be loved. May she have constant tail winds and clear skies when she flies.

It's incredible everytime she comes out with an album you think "who the hell is buying this crap? Well at least this has got to be the last one when they see how no one bought this one!" and then 3 or 4 years later she's got another. I mean do everyone forget that video when she's on the battleship in that god awful outfit that looked like she tore the V off of Mork's uniform, discarded the rest of it and just draped the V over her boobs. Talk about a last ditch effort to A) sell albums by showing some skin (although I'd rather see Mimi from Drew Carey show naked) and B) what a pathetic attempt to hold onto her youth. Bottom line is she's one creepy lady.

Singing though, I really do not thik she has a hell of a lot to do with the creative process. She goes and sings a song that is written for het, music already arranged and they go into the studio to manipulate her voice to try to sell records off of her name.

Her music is hollow, lifeless pop, her personality is defensive and self-serving, and her acting is mediocre at best. And how about that ridiculous video where she sings to sailors on a battleship? I guess if anyone is going to be at the docks when the fleet comes in, it's Cher.
