 | Limpin' Trenchfoot (18) 06/23/2006 | Great to do and often great to watch. Boxing is a real test of manhood unlike girly sports such as American Football and golf. Some of the heavyweight contests can be tedious but middleweight's generally the most exciting, especially the golden age of Sugar Ray Leonard, Hitman Hearns, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran

 | minkey (40) 02/22/2006 | I've gotten into boxing over the past months, one night a week. It's really a great upper body workout. This guy who teaches it really knows his stuff; he was an Olympic Gold medalist, so I'm fortunate to have such an instructor. Basically he has you practice a series of punches, jabs, crosses, uppercuts, has you dodge some punches, gives you some speed drills to do. You work out with a partner or on the bag. He emphasises a lot of jump rope as a warm up and an intense ab workout at the end. You walk out of there sore in the arms, chest and back, and if you try and write something your hand will shake and the pen will naturally slide downward. I bought a bag, a rope and some gloves so I can work out every day and I'm excited about it.

 | Djahuti (57) 12/10/2005 | Ah,the "sweet science"....for me one of the few sports worth sitting down and watching. It makes all other sports seem like kiddie stuff. There's something about two guys going mano a mano but sticking to rules that is fascinating, inspiring and exciting.I used to box in my youth and it's a great way to get in shape.

 | Wavebacker (27) 06/26/2005 | Boxing is great because it's about what we as human beings like - violent aggression in an organized, acceptable form. Who doesnt like to watch a fight? It's like a car accident in the street...you watch because you want to see what happened. Boxing is like that....where else can you see two guys ( or women) beat the crap out of each other legally? The bad thing about Boxing is that fighters tank fights and dont really fight for a purse. They get paid ahead of time and have to hype their event much of the time. You can also get killed Boxing. Boxing has made a joke of itself with a lack of great Boxers. The Sport has fallen greatly since Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, etc....If someone were to step in and makeover what Boxing is like and what it can be, this could be a huge Sport in the world.

 | Chrissy_c_1888 (1) 06/25/2005 | To be a success at a sport which at times can be so beautiful and brutal it takes skill, balls, heart and determination. Boxing is such a savagely competitive sport that it is the most basic of all sports,- 2 guys goin at it with their fists to see who can knock the other out or outpoint their oppoent. Although its much more complicated than this, the average joe doesnt seem to realise this, or the effects boxing has on a boxer pending the result of his fight. As Randyman has said, for so many boxers over the years boxing has provided a path for them away from the streets and troubles of a young man and for some as a way to get fit and make money. Like many sports you can look at some things about the sport that are boring and uninspiring like 9 out of 10 of fights these days in the boxing world but when you watch some of the greatest fights ever you will realise and appreciate why boxing is the only sport that cannot be called 'a game'. I love it.

 | ClassicTVFan47 (38) 10/09/2004 | Olympic-style Boxing is great...much less violent than its HBO counterpart and quite enjoyable. However, all other Boxing is just not my cup of tea.

 | Randyman (109) 07/09/2004 | Having been a professional boxer in 70s. I feel qualified to give my opinion. Boxing, first of all is not a true sport. It is a business arrangement. Two men get together and agree to fight for an agreed upon amount of money. Yes, it can be brutal. But for people who have lived in the bottom of society, it can be a way out. If you look at the history of boxing, the differant eras are filled with champions and contenders who's ethnic group were at the lower economic scale of their times, Jewish,Italians and Irish were the primary make up of boxers early on. Currently Blacks and Hispanics make up the majority of fighters. However looking at it in the context of a sport. I can tell you that boxing changed my life. it gave me a confidence and pride that was lacking in my early years. Whatever else I did after boxing, was just not as hard. When ever I was presented with a challenge in my life or career I would tell myself, If I can step into the ring in front of thousands of people and do my best, and walk out on my own two feet, I can do anything. With few exceptions, (Mike Tyson, Hector Camacho, etc...) boxers are the most humble and accessable of all atheletes, I have been fortunate enough to have met some of the biggest names in boxing, Ali,Sugar Ray Robinson, Alexis Arguello, Henry Armstrong, Danny lil Red Lopez, Oscar De La Hoya and Sugar Shane Mosley and I can tell you they were the salt of the earth. When you have true confidence you have nothing to prove. Boxing really does require a high degree of skill and endurance. Maybe to the average layman, it appears two guys are just slugging it out like cavemen, but nothing could be further from the truth. There is months of strategy, planning and conditioning involved. In boxing unlike tradional sports, you have to be exceptional just to be an average boxer.

 | DizzyC (0) 07/09/2003 | It's one of the most toughest sports this earth has ever tried or seen. It takes so much guts for the boxers to entertain us and to get in shape.
Boxing may look easy on T.V., but once you try it, It's a real challenge.

 | LadyShark4534 (12) 06/17/2003 | I took up boxing a while ago. It's not an easy sport.
It requires strength, dexterity, endurance, and speed.
It gets you into shape very quickly. It gives you an adreline rush. It gets you in touch with your violent instincts.
And after you're done, It makes you feel tough and strong and proud of yourself.

 | Jason1972 (4) 12/09/2002 | It's THE most corrupt sport in the anals of sports, it's a senseless thing to do to beat your opponent to a bloody pulp. There has been countless bouts of brain damage and dementia from older, retired boxers. A few have even died in the ring. Don King needs to fall of the Earth.

 | Cage_rules (0) 10/26/2002 | Dont dis on boxing until you have tried it! I box all the time, its not as easy as it looks. You gotta be in great shape not only physically, but also mentally. Boxing requires: disipline, hard work ethic, stamina, speed, strength, and ofcourse u have to outsmart the other guy. This is a fun and challenging sport. I do admit that the boxing organizations today are not what they use to be.

 | CastleBee (85) 03/07/2001 | From the boxers point of view, he stands a 50/50 chance of making a lot of money and getting some kind of title (whoopee!). He also has about a 99% chance of getting himself permanently maimed and/or having his brains disconnected at some point in his career. What a trade off. The spectators should just be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for considering this to be entertainment and for not being able to see it for what it really is - a sick appeal to our basest instincts.

 | magellan (177) 03/05/2001 | Boxing is sport condensed down to its rawest form. Can you defeat your opponent, can you leave him on the floor with all of his will to compete beaten out of him? Can you use your physical strength and speed and your skills and smarts to force a man into submission? It is barbaric, violent, and bloody - but it is sport at its essence. The only reason it doesn't get a "5" is because of the shameful, corrupt way that the various boxing organizations have managed this purest of sports.
