He plays the same role no matter what movie he's in. I guess he thinks if he plays it long enough they'll let him drive the car without Miss Daisy. Oh well Morgan, you'll be able to look back on a prosperous but flat career. Your best work with with the Electric Company.

I like him. But I feel that there are just certain roles he is good in. And I feel as an actor you should be able to play any kind of character/emotion.

Red.....gotta love red.
kris020103 01/06/2005
A truly remarkable actor, one who plays his roles so realistically. Definitely one of the best in the business!!!!! The first movie I saw him in was Glory, and he was brillant and continues to do so!!!!!
geminigirl 01/04/2005
Morgan Freeman is a great actor who has been in several good movies, but to me and anyone else in their 30's,he will always be Easy Reader on the greatest kids show ever, The Electric Company.
Working-Class_Hero 11/27/2004
i'd rather calling him king freeman .. really represents the image of the wise 1st class actor ..
rainer21 07/30/2004
Morgan Freeman is an incredible actor, he makes all of his characters believable and human. Could you imagine The Shawshank Redemption without him?
helmut 07/09/2004
Excellent actor. I loved Red.
ANSGARD 06/03/2004
This guy is no actor..... he is better off working somewhere else
kolby1973 05/31/2004
Without a doubt one of the greatest actors around. Unfortunately he lost one star for starring in the ever dreadful DEEP IMPACT. What a horrific movie that was...and even Morgan Freeman couldn't pull it out of the gutter...
BlairWitch187 05/30/2004
I love Morgan Freeman. His characters are always so serious. I loved him in Outbreak and Along Came A Spider.
Zioness Esq. 05/18/2004
Big, Big talent. The kind that takes your breath away. Awesome performances time and time again. This man is so gifted. I greatly admire his work.
Guava Monkey 04/22/2004
Has a lot of screen charisma and pretty much stole the show in 'Se7en'.Probably the coolest dude in Tinseltown right now.
CherrySoda99 01/19/2004
He' not bad. He's one of those guys, well, I don't watch all these cop movies, but he looks realy good.
LadyShark4534 12/25/2003
No other man could play the role of God. Morgan Freeman is that perfect.
Redoedo 12/15/2003
Morgan Freeman's greatest asset is his awesome screen presence. When he is on the screen, the audience has no choice but to be focused on HIM because of his sheer brilliance as an actor. It took Freeman nearly two decades to catch a break in Hollywood, and it finally came in 1989 when he got a substantial part in the Civil War film Glory. Freeman's performance was riveting, as he perfectly reflected the thoughts and passions of the African American soldier who was fighting for the freedom of his fellow man in the Civil War. A string of provocative thrillers (Kiss the Girls, Seven, and Along Came a Spider) are only part of an amazing resume. Freeman did a fantastic job in Amistad and Deep Impact. In the latter, he played the President of the United States, which I must say he did quite well. While having an African American president in a film would distract viewers in most cases, Freeman's brilliant acting ability and awesome screen presence makes us all color blind. More recently, Freeman has tried his hand at comedy, playing God in the 2003 comedy Bruce Almighty. Freeman did an exceptional job, but it is quite clear that Freeman's forte' is drama. In the final analysis, Morgan Freeman is a good actor who obviously chooses his roles carefully and executes them with passion and devotion.

Really great

Few actors can make every character they play believeable, and Freeman is one of them. He always lights up the screen yet does so in a subtle manner. One sign of a great screen actor is the skill of capturing the audience's eye. When I watch films like The Shawshank Redemption or Seven, it is Freeman who demands my attention, yet at the same time he is not obtrusive nor a scene-stealer. A simply great actor all around.
kerry_f84 10/13/2003
Morgan Freeman is the best actor in the world!

A fantastic actor.
jamestkirk 09/09/2003
His performance in "Shawshank Redemption" was awesome! He brought tears to my eyes as Red.
iluvamerica 08/02/2003
He did a good job in Sum of All Fears, and Driving Miss Daisy. (that was him right?)
TGCRVT 06/24/2003
I like Morgan Freeman but I'm somewhat ambivalent about him. He's a terrific actor but most all of his really substantive roles, with the exception of Lean on Me, have been in supporting parts (Glory, Unforgiven, Se7en...). I'd love to see a great film built around his character. I don't know if he's done any stage work but I'd like to see him in a stage production as well.
ozzymaniac 06/16/2003
Like Robert De Niro, he takes risks with his career by starring in bad movies sometimes, but he still is amazing. Why hasn't he won an Oscar yet?
kamylienne 06/10/2003
One of my favorite actors; every role that I've seen him in was just perfect. I loved him in "Seven" and "Shawshank Redemption" especially. I'm a little skeptical about the new "Bruce Almighty" movie (Jim Carrey flick), but at least they casted a great actor to play God's role. Even if this movie bombs, he's still one of the better actors out there.
ponerse 06/03/2003
I like Morgan's work(s), but I certainly wouldn't put him in the top 5 of his lifetime. He has never really been the leading star in any of the great movies he did.
Quann 05/28/2003
There is a very short list of actors that are of such incredible talent that I will see any movie they are in, just because I know their performances will always be outstanding. Morgan Freeman is at the head of that list. His performances are never overdone, never excessive, and always touching. He always seems to strike the right tone for the character or the situation. The fact that this man does not have an Oscar is an absolute crime.
namdog 05/04/2003
Morg's got a good voice and decent skills, but #4? Nah. I'd say he barely makes top fifty.
liberalbunk 04/23/2003
He is natural and capable. he is one of the most underatted actor in business.
Loretta K 03/11/2003
Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors. He seems to be so cool and collected, even mysterious. I hope I can meet him in person and shake his hand. He is truly great and a kind person. I can tell this just from his demeaner. I think he probably has the patience of a saint. Thank you, Loretta K Piketon, Ohio
qwertyqaz 03/01/2003
This is such a talented actor. His performances in Seven, Driving Miss Daisy, and Shawshank were perfect. I only wish he was offered more really meaty roles.
dezzy 02/19/2003
WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT MOGAN, WELL TO BEGIN WITH HE HAS BEEN AROUND A WHILE AND IM STILL NOT BORED WITH HIM. ONE OF THE BEST FILMS OF ALL TIME SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, HE WAS EXCELLENT A TRUE ACTOR.
WildCoyote 01/12/2003
The BEST! words are not enough to describe the talent of this man!
NYC777 11/08/2002
I can't believe that ppl actually rated him anything less than great. He is so underrated as an actor. He deserved to win the academy for shawshank redemption.
Jason1972 10/22/2002
Good dramatic actor. I can't believe he was on Electric Company. Of course, you have to start somewhere.
loknudson 01/12/2002
Driving Miss Daisy is a classic.
TheFreak 10/04/2001
Morgan Freeman is one of the best actors in history. Lean on Me was an amazing movie. And if y'all haven't seen Along Came a Spider, you have got to see it! Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross could not be more thrilling! Why the heck is he only number five on this list? He should be at least number two! Sometimes, I forget that he's just an actor, unlike those fakey idiots Leonardo DiCaprio and Bruce Willis who can't convince me of anything. I will be first in line to see his next movie, whatever it is! Take care, everyone.
callmetootie 09/26/2001
Morgan has had a few good movies but he is not a good actor.
claymoon 08/12/2001
Totally outstanding actor. Classy!
ashleys 07/27/2001
All I can think if is Shawshank. Anything related to that gets five stars. He's also somewhat choosy about his roles, which I take as the equivalent to not being a cheap whore. Also, he always looks so sincere. Whether he is or not doesn't matter since, well.... we're not acquaintances.

Great Actor

Morgan Freeman is an incredibly versatile actor whom I remember as Easy Reader on "The Electric Company." You know: "Top to bottom, left to right/That readin' stuff is outta sight, Easy Reader, that's my name...Readin', readin', that's my game." I can still see him in his vintage 1976 Afro, his Foster Grants, his brick-red turtleneck, that DYNAMITE brown leather vest with the fringe on the sleeves and the light-bulb patch on the back, his Beatles-style black boots with the pointed toes and his GROOVY bell-bottoms. If I recall correctly, he would be jogging along numerous paths in New York's Central Park and would stop to read every friggin' thing that came along. It didn't matter if it was a billboard, a newspaper, a pamphlet, an empty Funyuns bag lying forlornly on the ground: this guy READ it. And DUG it. And thought it was OUTTA SIGHT. I think his character was telling the people who watched the show that it didn't matter what was being read, because it was FUN to read. It was COOL to read. That's what mattered. Easy Reader's enthusiasm for reading was contagious for all of us who watched the show in the 1970s. Only Morgan Freeman could have make Easy's character believable. (I somehow don't think the guy who played Fargo North Decoder on the same show could have pulled it off the way Freeman did.) Freeman also played other memorable characters on "the Electric Company"- the mad scientist with the thick horn-rimmed glasses, wild white hair and mustache (IGOR!" he always was screaming), the Count, the deejay who was always introducing the "music" group, the Short Circus and their "new album" ("Outta sighteous!", followed by a snapping of the fingers and a loud, Barry White-ish chuckle). Few people are aware that Freeman had a serious drinking problem in the 1970s and 1980s but has since turned his personal and professional life around and has done so without compromising his integrity and his profession in the process. He now directs and produces and is a keen supporter of the arts in New York City and LA. He is active in the Actors Guild and devotes much time to community theater production whenever his schedule permits. A fine man and a testament to human endeavorment.

I truly believe Morgan Freeman is THE greatest actor of our generation. I have never seen an actor whose portrayal of a character comes across so naturally. Every character he plays seems as, well real as he were the character himself in real life! He provides just the right touch, the right facial feature, gesture, voice tone in every performance no matter how dull or complex his character may be. He has a such a calm, relaxed, quite nature about himself; a soothing, calming southern accent, an aura of quiet confidence and deft charm. No one in Hollywood is as gifted and underrated as he. I only hope he finally wins an Academy Award that he so richly deserves. Morgan Freeman's acting is so superb that I almost feel embarrassed for his co-stars who were probably hired for eyecandy for the female audience (his high-profile and talentless co-stars in Seven and Chain Reaction) Whether its Pacino, DeNiro, Nicholson, Gibson, Cruise, Hanks, Ford (all of whom I admire a great deal), NO ONE comes close to Mr. Freeman in my mind. How he has never won an Oscar based on his outstanding body of work and is not rated higher on this list is beyond me.
KarenBlueEyes 04/28/2001
I think Morgan Freeman is great. For some reason, he seems to have a calming effect on me, and I'd like to have him around at the time of a crisis. He's a superb actor.

Supercool. From back in the shadowy day as smooth Easy Reader on "The Electric Company" into the light of his heyday,he's a marvel. However some of the ones that have brought him alot of attention have been inflated in importance and some of the smaller roles, the overlooked things are his greatest. On occasion all it takes is his voice. As a narrator or a character...so much authority in those mellow tones.I recommend everyone see "Street Smart","Nurse Betty","The Long Way Home","Seven","Glory",&quo t;Attica","The Power Of One",as well as the more widely known"The Shawshank Redemption" with Tim Robbins,"Unforgiven" "Amistad" and "Deep Impact"(which after repeated viewing I find to be a bit of a downer--o well it's about the end of the world is all!). Any way you can see 'em,obscure movies or popular just see 'em.This actor has a quality of grace and self possession matched by few.
Johnny Roulette 01/06/2001
I think Glory, The Shawshank Redemption & Driving Miss Daisy get Freeman five stars without much debate. He was damn good in Seven as well.
