She's ok, pretty face, no doubt. As far as her acting abilities,she is mediocre at best. There are many female actresses more talented and equally attractive as Halle Berry. Did she deserve the Oscar, for her work in Monster's Ball? I don't think so. All she did was expose herself for all the world to see,and she was adamant about making sure she played those parts, no body doubles used. I think this was not a good decision. I don't see how the movie got anyway with just an R rating, it was plain pornography. She makes bad career choices, like her decision to do Catwoman, which many leading actresses avoided, including Angela Bassett. The movie has turned out to be a total flop. It's a shame to see her have to compromise her integrity and self respect just to make it big in Hollywood. Hollywood has a history of using people and quickly discarding them also the public is very fickle. I think Halle Berry has reached her apex and it's straight downhill from this point onward. She gravitates toward skin parts and at 38, her age is definitely against her. I have comments for several people who commented on Halle Berry being unattractive, a bad actress, boring, and last but not least, the most ignorant comment of all, that she looks like a rat. The women is undoubtedly beautiful because if she wasn't, the entire world wouldn't keep saying so. Anyone who thinks there are others who are more or equally attractive may be correct but to say she is ugly which is an unkind and hateful word (almost always used by those who are jealous, have self hate or are blatantly unnattractive themselves) is absolutely false and just plain ridiculous. You know something, I never really thought much of her acting talents until I saw Monster's Ball, the movie she won the Academy Award for. When she won, I hadn't seen the movie yet, and had only her previous work to go on, none of which particularly stood out. I am ashamed to admit that I pulled a Rush Limbaugh, and assumed that she only won because of her ethnicity (I know, that was totally wrong of me, but I'm far more cynical than I am racist so don't think that my initial thoughts were the product of bigotry, although I am sure I have a ways to go before I can call myself non-prejudiced). Really, she barely spoke in X-Men, I hated Swordfish so I couldn't really pay attention to her character (which was weak anyway), and all she did in Flintstones was make sexy eyes at John Goodman while conniving behind his back. Those were obviously not really the best roles for her, because she was OUTSTANDING in Monster's Ball. It truly was one of the best performances of the year. I despised her self-aggrandizing speech at the Oscars, but I can ignore her personal foibles (I am still convinced that in real life she is a certifiable psycho) and just appreciate that one movie, that one perfect role that she played to perfection. Mind you, Monster's Ball managed to elicit great performances from crappy actors like Heath Ledger and Puff Daddy (or whatever the hell he's calling himself these days), but Halle was riveting. I wish I could just forget everything I have ever seen her in, or heard about her, or heard her say in interviews, and only know her through that one role, because then I'd be left with an unblemished image. Also, for those of you to whom such things matter, you see pretty much every square inch of her naked body at one point (an almost uncomfortably long love scene with Billy Bob) - she's a gorgeous woman, even when portraying poor colored trash from Cowplop, Georgia. I'll stop gushing now, or else I'll be tempted to change my 4 stars into 5, and she doesn't deserve the full score based on one role, no matter how good it was.

Halle is a beautiful African-American woman (look back at your history people - in the U.S if you had "any" black in you than you were considered black - and was treated as such). How can a person CLAIM to be black? She IS black. Most white people that look at her view her as a black woman, and I guarantee if she were not a celebrity she would not be as accepted as she is due to her complexion. Her own mother is the one that advised her to view herself that way (African-American) because she knew that others would. Rather she is light skinned or deep chocolate brown - I applaud her and will continue to support her as I do all of my sisters.

The first movie I remember seeing Halle in was the TV miniseries..."Queen" She was wonderful and I do feel she is an actor that continues to grow. Did she deserve the oscar for Monsters Ball? Halle Berry to me is overrated, but she is still a talented actor. Was she worthy of The Best Actress Award? I'm not too sure if it was the right time to give the carrot to the rabbit yet. I've only seen her give a few truly compelling performances that impressed me. And that was in "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?". I really, really loved that movie, and I thought that she and her co-stars were wonderful. Other films I've seen her in have been so-so, such as "Executive Decision" and "X-Men" (the film was great, but not because of her acting).
