Beautiful dogs, good-natured eyes, obedient and good with kids. Since bigger dogs require plenty of exercise and like running around, I recommend a fenced backyard unless you have the time and energy to take them for walks or jogs. Not ideal for small apartments. Shedding can also be a concern.

I love my golden. I trained her for agility, obediance, and rescue. I would have to say that goldens are extremely smart, therefore stubborn and fairly hard to train. They are very active, beautiful, loving, and everything great. People love to see them and they always look friendly so I believe they are great for rescue as the person being rescued would not be intimidated. But people should learn about all dogs before purchasing them. They require a lot of care. They need to be brushed a lot. They are big dogs and need space and room to run and shouldn't really be tied up a lot much like all large dogs. And they are common for hip displacia, so maybe be prepared for high med bills or early death... 7-9 years apposed to an old 13-14 years which would be an old, deaf and blind dog. They are very protective. Ideal for families. But I would recommend males over females as ANY female dog can be quite territorial.

Goldens are wonderful dogs. They are very even tempered, great with kids, very loyal and loving. My male golden was an only dog for two years before we got a german shepard pup. There has been no rivalry/jealousy between them since. The golden practically adopted the pup as his own and began nurturing him immediately. They are both wonderful dogs, but the golden is by far the more loving/affectionate. We have two signs for our dogs "Beware of dog" for the shepard and "Be AWARE of dog" for the golden.

I think they are very sweet, beautiful, loving dogs.

These are one of the most gentle breeds known to man. Excellent companions with children. Perfect for that Christmas picture you want to send to your cousins in Encino or something like that. But as a watchdog? Forget it. You could have a burglar in the house making off with expensive silverware and this breed would just lollygag on the floor with its tongue dripping drool.

Golden Retrievers have all of the great personality traits of labs (sweet, gentle, easily trained, well behaved), and are truly beautiful dogs. However, they are a pain to groom and leave long hairs all over your house. You could probably spend hours brushing their hair. They can look really messy if you don't take care of them.

We have two goldens. They're the friendliest, gentlest, most eager to please dogs I've ever met. They also have quite distinctive personalities. The hair is frustrating, but the love and companionship make it worthwhile.

These dogs are pretty good they can be obediant sometimes and stubern all the time but there pretty good dogs to own.

I just love them. They're beautiful and gentle dogs. And they've got those great faces. But you've got to have abig house and a lot of time to groom them, and they're being dangerously overbred.

The best family dog. Our Golden Retriever is active and playful yet gentle with our kids (active 3 and 4 year old boys). She is friendly and eager to please. She is still young (just a year old) so she gets pretty excited when we have company, we have to break her from jumping and sometimes going so far as to piddle on the floor. I think she will outgrow this, with our help. I can't imagine a better dog. I am also surprised that she is also a bit of a watchdog, she barks whenever anyone knocks on the door or pulls into the driveway, and stops as soon as I come to the door. I guess Golden's have become the norm for soccer moms and are the "suburban yuppie dog"But, for good reason, they are loyal, friendly and happy to go with you anywhere.

Certainly a 5 for friendliness but a 3 for personality. Very nice, sweet dogs but just kinda bland in my view. I want a dog that's got spirit and Goldens just seem to hang around. Great around kids though!

Great dogs in many ways, but longish hair makes them difficult to keep clean and well-groomed.

Hands down, Golden Retrievers are one of the best breeds out there. Sweet, gentle, mellow and EXTREMELY friendly. Not to mention great looking!

Golden retriever -- a magnificent breed. So regal and beautiful.

Growing up, I was afraid of dogs. The first dog that I was around for an extended period of time was a golden retriever and he was the gentlest and best mannered dog I have ever been around. The one problem is that they tend to shed a lot of hair.

Yes they are goofy and not extremely bright, but I have never met a Golden Retriever that wasn't sweet, loving, and mellow. If I ever have a family, this breed would be high on my list as a potential pet.

Has there ever been a mean Golden Retriever? I think the laws of nature have turned Golden Retrievers into the most good-natured, desperate-for-attention, desperate-to-please dog there is. My only problem with them is that I've started to associate them with soccer moms in Lexus SUVs. They're suburban yuppie dogs.
