Im amazed at how many negative ratings B.C. got. I have always gotten a kick out of it and thought it was out there...

"Clams got legs" was not funny the first time, nor the tenth time, nor the 4,000th time. One or two amusing strips per year does not make it worth reading.

Hart & Co. should really have folded up shop about 30 years ago. Like the Wizard of Id, an unappealing drawing style is yoked to one-note gags.

This is always worth a read.

Shortly before The Flintstones premiered on the ABC Television Network, a new comic strip made its debut in the funnies of some papers. The only thing Johnny's Hart's B.C. needed for his vision of the age of stone was modern life, not The Honeymooners. There are those times when the strip goes a little too far when it comes to being the modern stone age. Religion (Christianity in particular) sometimes takes part in the story, which can be very unusual to some readers considering the comic's name (BC: Before Christ). Since B.C. is meant to be a parody of modern life & society, religion must apply as well. Besides, there is a character named B.C. that appears once in a while, along with a certain Johnny (an ant). Don't let the religious themes get to y'all, it's all part of Hart's depiction of our world today.

Stale like left over bread.

Utter crap. If only there was an option for minus one.... Another goodie from the past that has turned to dust. Awful puns, those tired definitions and show-me's, and enough already with the religion. I'm all for free speech, but I read the comics to laugh. Or not, in this case.
irishgit 01/13/2004
The humour has grown stale and largely predictable and I find his frequent evangelical Christian drop ins a little wearing.
Snoopy 07/23/2003
I think it's a funny strip, and so what if it has Christian themes at times! There are plenty of secular comic strips out there for you anti-Christians to read. I agree with CastleBee. Liberals are so hypocritical at times. They fight for freedom of speech, but Heaven forbid some Christian wants to speak out...

This comic's just getting worse with time (as Hart gets senile?) The awful puns are just that...For clever wordplay, "Pearls Before Swine" is much better. And keep your dogma off of the funny pages, Johnny, it's not the place for it.

I've always loved B.C.! I have enjoyed the controversy stirred up by his religious strips. Even though I think he can be a little too dogmatic in his themes he did get people talking and I think that's a good thing. ~Erg!

Glad to see this strip is starting to get the ass whuppin' it deserves,-take THAT!.

Does Mr. Hart still make B.C. strips? Because it's not in my local paper and I really miss it. It's a classic.
buzzdav4 02/23/2003
Okay, Mr. Hart, here it is, simplified: Jesus died. He's gone. He's been gone for nearly 2000 years. He did NOT return. He AIN'T coming back. Your God is not necessarily everyone else's god; certainly, not mine. Spare us your weird theology and try something funny.
Classic Steve 02/18/2003
I'll grant its capacity for original humor and cute animals, but with so many groaners, sexisms, and serious evangelistic messages, I can rate it no higher than this.
jdubrates 02/18/2003
Garbage. B.C. was actually okay before Hart decided to be a preacher instead of an entertainer. Now it's just narrowminded, hit-you-over-the-head trash.
CastleBee 06/18/2002
Not laugh out loud funny stuff - maybe not even chuckle to yourself funny always. But I agree with Rusty - the Christian themes are a positive thing. What is funny is how we are continually told how "intolerant" it is to disagree with the far left agenda but let one lone cartoonist draw a CROSS and show reverence to God and the liberals gasph and turn away faster than than a convention of vampires - oooooh no, hisssss, PROPAGANDA!!!! Can you get more obviously pathetic? He gets 5 stars just for having the guts to stand up and be counted.
Rusty 06/17/2002
The messages of love and hope that Johnny Hart creates with his gentle wit are inspiring and are truly more engaging than the tripe that passes for humor. He has no need to apologize for his Christian themes, which is what our world seems to be lacking.
aflx 06/17/2002
Please, give me more Christian propaganda with my morning cereal. I especially enjoy the annual Easter sunday strip when they do some hokey thing that ends up with a huge cross rising out of the ocean. Barf.
TheFreak 09/14/2001
OOOO! This comic strip is sometimes funny, but other times it is offensive beyond belief! How many of you saw the Christmas Day BC? How stupid! Johnny Hart is a Religious Right bigot whose comic strip should be called "B.S"! I don't want this comic strip censored, but I would appreciate if Mr. Hart would be al little more considerate of the views of people other than conservative Republican Christians!
Andrew Gilmore 08/11/2001
I don't care what you guys say. B. C. is silly but often has very clever wordplay.
jesterr 12/30/2000
Very sexist..the women don't have names, only "cute chick" and "fat broad" That MIGHT be forgiveable if the strip was funny.
chemicaldave9 12/09/2000
oy.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 08/28/2000
I hope I never meet anyone that finds this cartoon funny.
sdee4626om 05/17/2000
BC is one of my favorite persons. Of course, I also love the snake and the turtle and his friend the bird. And everyone else, too!
Wiggum 05/07/2000
Those "humorous definitions" cartoons got really, really old.
