It was a tired joke after it was out for a few months. It just doesn't have legs.

I would like to see more of these cartoons in the Sunday newspaper. Its a great series, prodding at animal life and everyday life. I would, however, like to see this cartoon making fun of professionals (any kind).

Far Side is dry and boring compared to modern humor. It had its time, but it should be retired and placed away like Peanuts.
THNDRacket 11/10/2002
The only reason it doesn't deserve a 5 is because it's only a single panel comic. Therefore it can't be rated as high as "Calvin and Hobbes."

I love that outlandish, way out humor that defined this comic strip for years. It really was on a day in, day out basis, the best strip around. Very seldom did I not "get" what the strip was saying.

Incredibly well-thought-of and side-splittingly funny. The use of the names for animals and the women with the beehive 'dos and cat-eye glasses only add authenticity to the absurdity and way-out humor that is Gary Larson. What a talented artist---and what a clever mind!

We can thank Mr. Larson for calenders with a kick.

I have always loved this strip and when the new calender comes out every year, I am the first in line to buy it. I love the way Gary's sense of humor really coninsides w/ the looks of the characters. This is the best strip.

The Far Side is a very funny comic strip. The humor is great. and so are the jokes. This is my 2nd favorite strip.

Gary Larson created this comic book series in 1981. I don't get this series at all, because I never enjoy reading it, as these are extremly disturbing images.

No one has more scientifically funny cartoons than the Far Side, that's why it is so great.
Spiralingmarce 02/11/2001
Hilarious! I get the off-the-wall calendar every year!

This is my favorite comic ever.

Comic strips have never before or since been more consistently funny than this. Every now and then you would hit one that put a question mark over your head, but 99 per cent were just laugh out loud hilarious. I stopped reading the comics when Larson left.

the funniest.

You might not have understood every strip, but by far the best one panel strip there ever was. It made you look at life alitte differently.

Also great but not as consistent as Calvin and Hobbes. But man thank god this guys thoughts only came out in comic form. yeesh!! He must be one creepy dude. To be his child must be on par with growing up having Alfred Hitchcock or Stephen King as a father. Can you say maladjusted? (or spell it in my case?)

This comic spawned a slew of copycats which aren't nearly as funny. I can read old Far Side comics and still laugh.
Wiggum 05/07/2000
Inspired and laugh-out-loud funny. When I was in junior high school, I met Gary Larson at a book-signing, and he drew a cow in my copy of the original Far Side compilation. I remember thinking how cool it was that he took the time to include something extra with his signature. I mean, after signing 10,000 of those, would you really be in the mood to prolong the experience? Anyway, when the Far Side came along, it was unique and usually hilarious in a skewed, off-center kind of way. I still remember classics like "The real reason dinosaurs became extinct," and "What we say to dogs - what dogs hear."
