This really IS a fun game. The best part is the deals you cut with other players... the stuff that isn't quite in the rulebook. One of the best commercial board games ever.

of course monopoly is going to dominate the board game list, but what can i say, its a great game.
StanUzbeck 08/19/2003
This is a pretty fun game, although since I have an automatic aversion to capitalism, I felt really bad about beating the hell out of my friends at it. Seriously, they had no chance when I scooped up the Free Parking cash and proceeded to bankrupt all of them one at a time. I felt like the world's biggest jerk though, which is why I'll probably never be a millionaire.
ChadOvermyer 08/13/2003
Greatest board game ever. I play Monopoly almost every week. Also have Scooby-Doo Monopoly. I'm interested in knowing how to play Drinkopoly. Sounds fun.
iluvamerica 08/07/2003
The best game ever. But sometimes it can take a little too long to get through a game. Oh well, it's a classic. I also love playing it online. It kills time at work.
betty boop 08/03/2003
a great game it has to be the best boardgame ever invented
kolby1973 07/28/2003
I used to love this game so much as a kid, and still do as long as I play it with the right people. This game reminds me so much of capitalism. It is great. I recommend this game to the whole family.
reeny 07/27/2003
The king of all board games. I think there are very few people in this country or in this world rather, who do not have a Monopoly game of some kind in their homes.
MissPackRat4Je sus 07/10/2003
Monopoly is a perpetual, timeless classic game still enjoyed by people of all ages, even after nearly 70 years. No wonder it is number one!!!!
getback 05/13/2003
Great game in my book a little long to play.

I LOVE SEEING PEOPLE LAND ON MY HOTEL ON BOARDWALK.
kamylienne 04/07/2003
Monopoly can be a lot of fun, but once the properties are all sold it gets pretty boring. It's a great game to play at family gatherings with young children. House rules always included putting a "lottery jackpot" at free parking (no matter whose house I go to, that's a house rule, it's strange), which kind of got ridiculous after a while, but eh, it's all in good fun.
Redoedo 03/15/2003
I love this game. It is truly one of the all time classic board games! It brings capitalism to life. A great game!
ratemaster1984 03/02/2003
A classic, one of the greatest board games of all time!
Theatre_Bug_05 02/17/2003
so much fun, the perfect babysitting tool.
looneylady 12/20/2002
I love monopoly. I used ti play it a lot when i was young.
lukskywlkr. 11/06/2002
Not only is this a fun game, but when you get into one of those that lasts half the night you really get to know the people you're playing with. It's also fun to dream about all that property and all those hotels being real. The higher the stakes the more fun it is. You can really get on the edge of your seat playing Monopoly.
Jason1972 11/04/2002
This game is a sheer bona fide classic. Plus, it's kind of a learning lesson on how to invest and trade, in a broad sense. This game has held up with age very well. Hint: Never be the thimble, you'll never win, at least with me it's been a curse.
r_mitchell 08/23/2002
Buy, Sell, Trade. Great fun for the whole family for both kids and adults. Giving kids a good chance at winning (unless dad decides to play the shrewed business man). Added fun in the game.... Try this!!! Whenever a player lands on free parking that player gets to create a new board rule anyone who breaks rule owes $500. This can be anything from not picking your piece up when moving to never touching your face. Half hour of the rules piling up you don't know what you can do anymore :P Have fun

I used to love this as a kid-we all did-and it was the first game i went out to buy a few years ago when my niece came to stay.I hadn't realised it was an American invention till reading the RIA comments;here in Britain i was always used to the London version, with Mayfair and Park Lane the most valuable properties. Now we've got the Welsh one.It has the perfect balance between luck and skill-the luck element makes it much more interesting and enjoyable.I can still remember one time cursing and cursing as my cousin kept landing on Chance and Community Chest(i presume this is the same in the States?) etc, missing all the hotels i'd bought up to dominate the board, while i did the circuits landing without fail on his pitiful holdings or on the obnoxious squares-to fritter everything away.Dastardly misfortune!Yes,it passes the test;just thinking about it has brought a smile to my face.It can just occasionally go on too long, but it does make for hours of great pleasure for the family (and good fun for a couple too).

Monopoly should be called Monotony. The favorite game of the Energizer Bunny. It keeps on going and going and going and going and going and going and going...
ellajedlicka21 11/10/2001
Sure, this game can take hours upon hours, but if you're into it, it's a helluva long time of fun and decision-making.
raincat 10/16/2001
Monopoly is a great claasic board game. It's fun to move the unique tokens around the board and try to collect sets of the properties before anyone else. The play money is also fun to use, but my pet peeve is the single dollar bills because it makes it a bit of a pain to have to use them and keep cashing in bigger bills in order to get $14 for rent or something instead of an even $15 or whatever. But on the other hand, this gives kids good practice in making change and improving math skills etc. The biggest thrill in this game has to be landing on free parking- especially if their is a big jackpot put in the middle.

A game that's meant to be played on rainy days or when your great-aunt Bertha (and yes, I do have a great-aunt Bertha) comes over for a weekend visit. This game takes FOREVER to play, unless you play the "short" version whereby the title deeds are shuffled and the players select a couple from the deck and pay the bank what they cost. My grandmother introduced me to this game when I was about 6 or 7. I used to really enjoy playing it but I grew to dislike it after awhile because my friends and siblings became too cutthroat. Everyone wanted the railroads or Boardwalk, and you'd get razzed if you ended up with a loser property like Baltic Avenue. (Personally, I was always enamored of Ventnor Avenue, though I really can't say why.) If I'm not mistaken, it's been one of the most popular games in the country, if not the world. The Soviet Union banned it because it represented decadent Western capitalism and exploitation of the working proletariat. Today I would be loath to introduce it to any of my children, simply because I feel it promotes unneccessary competition. I don't disapprove of competition per se, but when it exacerbates financial stress (even though IT'S JUST A GAME!), people frankly don't enjoy it any more. I've witnessed my siblings get into fights because one of them is in the hole and the other has fifteen bazillion hotels on all their properties. If Monopoly had (has) any redeeming values, it taught me rudimentary math, such as multiplying the rent times the cost of X houses or X hotels; how to make change, and to be responsible by paying my bills (property rent) whenever I landed on someone's property. I always wanted to be the battleship or the car, and I never knew that the guy with the top hat and walrus moustache actually had a name until a few years ago. (His name is John Q. Public.)
bitemyscab 08/14/2001
This game starts out fun but always bogs down after about 30 minutes.
MedgarEvers 07/13/2001
The absolute best. I never grow tired of it, it's such a smart & classic game- I grew up w/ Monopoly Jr. in my younger days. I knew Monopoly would be #1, and it deserves its place.
cheltzy_1 07/05/2001
Monoploly is a great game for learning buisness skills, and its just plain fun to beat your siblings.
knowhere man 07/01/2001
Probably the Most POPULAR board game in American history. A lot of you are complaining about the length of the game. When I was ten a girl friend and I used to bend the rules a little so that it was impossible to lose. I added additional money from the game of LIFE, which I never cared much for, and we played the same game for weeks just to see how rich we could get. In the end we were both millionares, neither one lost and we still had a lot of fun. Today I still play on gameboy by myself. It's great not to have to throw dice, calculate money or move the tokens around a board but nothing quite replaces the greed one has when playing with others. EASY MONEY was also a favorite.
H C B BAGGINS 06/12/2001
This is my favorite board game. Everytime I went to visit my grandparents my grandfather and I would spend hours playing Monopoly. Brings back great memories. It's educational, you learn great math skills. I have the Monopoly game my granfather had from the 1930's, wooden game pieces. I like it better than the new one I bought four years ago.
CastleBee 04/30/2001
Money makes the world go 'round, the world go 'round...and the little dog, and the shoe and the race car. I love this game! How often do you get a chance to experience buying real estate and houses like an oil baron? And back before you had to pretend you were mature it was also a great way to get your aggressions out on your sister. Let her get a few hotels, get in an argument and then flip the board. Muhahahahaha!
callmetootie 04/14/2001
Monopoly is the classic board game. It is fun and exciting and there's always something new that you learn from it. I wish that my Uncle was Uncle Pennybags, I don't know why though. It just seems that it would be cool. It's always fun.
Grindmal 01/01/2001
For a game that's almost a hundred years old, Monopoly stand up well. But with the influx of so many better property buying games (Hotels, Big Boss, and Acquire to name a few), it sees little playing time within my circle of family and friends
DruKnight 12/16/2000
Monopoly used to be a great game but now it seems kind of boring. It's the same thing every time I play, whoever has the most property wins. I also don't like how long the game is, it sometimes takes hours to finish. Also, all the new Monopoly games that come out are all the same exact game except with different names and buildings.
Lister00169 12/13/2000
This is the type of game a person like Bill Gates played a lot when he was a kid. It is the ultimate wannabe millionaire game. The game is anything but boring. It's one of the few games available that requires brain power, which is refreshing. The ultimate plus factor of this game is the ability to take away your opponent's money by "monopolizing" the board. The feeling you get when your opponent lands on Park Place with three of your hotels on it is exquisite.

Monopoly is a classic! All ages love it as well. The adults to the competitive level and the kids love to handle money. It teaches young kids to count and the older kids to deal with banking (counting back). I love playing it as well. It's really fun and you can always build higher with houses. It applies to everyday life.
tsuitat 12/13/2000
It is the most funny game. I like it because it stimulates my thinking. I can really imagine I'm a monopoly. It is a beautiful board full of variety.
Channeeh 12/13/2000
Monoploy was extremely fun when I was little. It is still fun but the game is long and tedious. Counting money and property is troublesome too.
spida_man 12/13/2000
The first game that I truly think brought me the greed of money. I played this game for countless hours and achieved great loads of property and money. A game that anyone can play and shouldn't be limited by age. Another one of the all time greats by Milton Bradley.
Babs 12/12/2000
I like this game because it teaches children the concept of handling money, making financial decisions, and strategizing. My children negotiate trading properties and feel empowered by this game.
RW Coloue 12/12/2000
Although time consuming, it is a great game. It is really fun for all ages and is not just family oriented. The instructions are simple and it's easy to understand. It teaches money management to children.
Mika S 12/12/2000
Monopoly is an excellent family game. You can play with 5-7 people. It's fun during Christmas time or when you have a lot of people over. It's an excellent gift. I just think that the board should be a little wider.
FannyPance 12/12/2000
I like this game because it is almost like strating a business from scratch. It teaches you about money handling and starting companies. It takes time and effort and you always have a chance of coming back. Another thing is the more players the better.
B Baller3 12/11/2000
A great game that allows you to use strategy, investing property and taking the other people's money. It's a time consuming game but at the end when you have a whole side bought up, plus you're getting paid, it's fun. If you have the time this is a fun game to play. Try your luck and stay out of jail.
Stud is AMC 12/11/2000
Monopoly is the best board game I have ever played. Good for people of just about any age. I can play it with my friends or family. As there are no time constraints, it can be played for a short of long period of time.
overalls 11/24/2000
I like to play Monopoly with different people. When I play with my guy friends, the trick is to buy as much property as possible. In the end, everyone teams up so that there is two teams. With family it's more of a strategy. Either way the game is fun to play.
PJPJ 11/22/2000
Monopoly is a great game, but only if you're winning. It gives you the fantasy of owning a lot of property, or being poor. It's a classic game played by everyone. It's such an intense game, and many fights break out at home from it.
kdiva2 11/22/2000
This game has become an American pastime. I remember being little waiting for when I was old enough to play. Not only is it a great game, but also a great teaching tool. You can teach children to count back change with the game, because in this game everyone is careful with their money. You can also teach strategy. It's better to acquire properties of the same color than all over. Also, it's a great game for the summer vacation, because instead of being bored kids can play the game for over a week. It also is still attractive to adults- we all want to make money and it's nice to watch other people pay up. Now they've got so many different versions you can choose your favorite.
alicat 10/23/2000
I don't know what is wrong with me but I seem to be the only one who doesn't like this board game. I don't know if as a kid I had a short attention span or what but this game used to last like 3 hours. I just didn't care to play a board game that went on that long. I would have rather been outside playing. I am sure if I played now, as an adult I would have a different opinion but I just didn't care about property or money when I was younger. It held no meaning or significance to me. Now i am scared to play because I used to really not like it, and I don't want to give it a second chance.
RevJATB 10/02/2000
Great nostalgia value, but is it ever LONG!!!!! The fanny-fatigue incurred during a typical game far outweighs any fun quotient. "The mind can only take as much as the seat can endure."
thescott2k 09/28/2000
Its the best board game ever created. Ive been playing it for about 10 with friends, family members and anyone I can find. I also think its great that they made all of the spin offs such as Star Wars Monopoly, Pokemon Monopoly, and even NFL Monopoly. What a great game!!!!
