Berman's shtick is old. Even if he was the first to do nicknames and sound effects, his act is tired and often comes off as forced. And that urge to sing...

He is just the best. Enough said.

He is really energetic at what he does, and is probably better suited for football than baseball because of it, but he holds his own with baseball. He's very funny, and he knows what he is talking about. Some people say he is full of himself, but i really don't see that at all. He seems like a very down to earth guy, and is always the first to make fun of himself. An egotistical person doesn't do this,(see Joe Morgan or Sterling Sharpe). He was the pioneer in combining sports and humor, and SportsCenter wouldn't even be around if Chris Berman didn't attract the audience twenty years ago.

Everyone knows his catchphrase: "HE COULD GO ALL THE WAY!" He is a great announcer. Berman has a good intellect of all the sports that he covers.

It's back, back, back, back, back... BLAH!

We may be able to judge a tv personality by how often they are imitated. Berman was the first sports broadcaster to have fun describing highlights and play by play. Many are copying him. I love how he can be criticial of an athlete/team but does it in a way he does not elevate himself above the sport(s). He's the best...

Berman is the most high energy and funniest sportscasters out there. You've gotta love his catch phrases i.e "HE-COULD-GO-ALL-THE-WAY!!" or "BACK, BACK, BACK!!". Hes so entertaining to listen to.

can he be any more full of himself?

Extremely knowledgeable about football. Also, very light hearted and fun to listen to. Has great nicknames, slang, and various voices.

I think Chris Berman does an excellent job on ESPN. He is a very enthusiastic broadcaster. He is knowledgeable on everything he covers. Chris Berman also has a very good sense of humor and loves to make people laugh.

I don't believe Espn would be what it is today if not for Chris. He was the first guy to combine commentating and humor who wasn't intoxicated.(i.e.Dandy Don,Harry Carey)

I love this guy, but I can see how he'd be kind of hard to follow if you didn't know the sport he was calling really well. As a musician, I enjoy the 60's & 70's rock references. It probably also helps that he is a fellow SF Giants fan. Anyway, one of my favorites was Burt "be home" Blyleven.

Chris Berman is the greatest sports analyst of all time. ESPN was built around this man's greatness. His energetic explanations mirror a true fans excitement. He is both insightful and hilarious. And for the record his greatest nick name ever is Ben "winter" coats.

The ultimate enthusiast. This guy really gets the ball going. One of the best at what he does. I love this guy and really respect his knowledge of the game. He knows a lot.

He is a good commentator. He brings a positive energy to the ESPN network. I think he makes a better football commentator than baseball. The way he calls the play when a player goes all the way to endzone is great. At baseball he is OK.

Boomer is the man!
magellan 04/05/2000
Still the best when it comes to "Primetime" a rapid run through of the highlights of the days NFL games. He is getting a little grating at the other stuff though.
Munson 04/04/2000
Boomer's schtick has gotten a little old. He uses the same catch phrases that he always has and I highly doubt that any young viewer understands half of his references.
