It's too much work to keep them from floating up and out of the bowl for the taste. (Apparently I need to try a bigger bowl or less milk...) Anyway--It's all air anyway. I'd rather have substance than snap, crackle, pop.

They're bland on their own. But add in a few slices of banana, and they're worthy of an extra star or two. A match made in heaven.

Don't eat the cereal anymore (don't have the chocolate kind in Canada) but they get a five for one reason alone. Rice Krispie squares. The secret to making them amazing is adding more marshmallows than the recipe calls for. Half to three quarters of a cup more.

I love Rice Krispies - but only with a lot of Splenda. When I first pour the milk on, I am struck by the gleeful snap, crackle and pop of the cute munchkins themselves, Snap, Crackle, and Pop. When I stir in the sweetener, I am struck now by how the pale golden rice bubbles seem to take on the color of the milk. And then I take a bite and realize what a clumpy, soggy mess my Rice Krispies have been reduced to. I eat a spoonful and admit that although it was mush, it was some tasty mush. Then I make a terrible mistake and decide to try Rice Krispies without Splenda the next day. The taste doesn't even qualify as pleasant, and oh! Where's the fiber? Rice Krispies would be nothing without sweetener.

I rate it a 5 b/c it brings back childhood memories, and you can put as much sugar in it as you want.

Rice Krispies Treats Cereal is where its at.

what a terrible cereal! No sugar? I only have sweet tooth's in my mouth and that's why I can't stand this cereal. I always have to put sugar, then the stupid flakes get all soggy. And I can't stand those three midgits on the front of the box

A classic brand of cereal. On its merit, it's not too impressive. However, I add sugar to mine and it tastes very good. I guess as Molfan said- that could be considered cheating. All in all, as long as you add what you want (for me its sugar and bananas), this cereal can be delicious and healthy.

Ugh. They get mushy and gross within seconds... the sounds are cool though!
nuts_poppin 04/01/2003
Rice Krispies is not meant for a breakfast cereal cuz it simply turns soggy damn fast after addin milk and taste very plain, use it to make rice krispies treats is a better idea. Drown it in a whole load of marshmallow creme, yum!!!

Rice Krispies is a quintessential cereal, why? Well, of course there is the tasty marshmello treats, but then they're good in salads, casseroles, party mixes, and Asian rice dishes.

In the words of Bill Cosby, "The air in my mouth tastes better than this."
yoshislink 05/15/2002
mmmmm. tastes like nothing!

i would really give this a 4.5. Good old Rice Krispies. they have been around "forever" I still like a bowl of Rice Krispies. It brings back memories from childhood. With Snap, Krackle, and Pop elves. Pitching the cereal. And most People have had a Rice Krispie bar at least once. I cheat and put sugar on mine. It is one of the cereals the whole family likes.

When I was younger, I liked this cereal because my mom let me put sugar on it. This was a big deal considering I only got Lucky Charms and Cocoa Puffs when I slept over at friends' houses. At about 12, I'd eat the stuff with 1/2 a cup of sugar in each bowl. I couldn't do that now, but it was sure good then. One time I even got so desperate for my sugar-drenched cereal that I ate it without the cereal, just the sugar and the milk. I would rate it five stars because of the bond I developed with this cereal, but I don't think it was the cereal so much as the sugar.

What could be more classic then waking up to a nice big bowl of Rice Krispies? They are very tasty these days, because they now put some sugar into them. They crackle a lot more too. They don't turn soggy either.

Shroomwoman- I hear you- that's why I only eat Rice Krispies with a whole, sliced-up banana in it. A tasty combination that adds substance to the plain Rice Krispies. I also agree with the others who noted how soggy this cereal can get. The best thing is to pour the cereal, then only at the last minute slice on a banana and pour milk on and feast immediately! Yummy and nutritious. Kids seem to like it this way too.

This is a cereal for science. It tastes excellent and even snaps, crackles and pops for amusement of children with imagination when eaten with milk. They're also good for making lunch treats or platters for parties.
jeanie 12/10/2000
I love the snap, crackle, pop, but it doesn't stay so poppy. The cereal is also rather bland. The best way to eat this cereal is Rice Krispie bars. Those are excellent. The regular cereal just turns to a soggy mush, which I just won't tolerate.
oreo 11/22/2000
Rice Krispies is an all time favorite since an early age. The cereal is good even when made plain with milk or when it is made into treats. The cereal however becomes soggy quickly.
Shroomwoman 10/11/2000
I'm giving Rice Krispies cereal a "3" simply because it's the main ingredient in Rice Krispies Treats, one of my favorite snacks growing up. On its own, though, Rice Krispies cereal isn't very good. Sure, the "snap, crackle, pop" effect is entertaining, but the cereal lacks taste and substance. If I have it for breakfast, my stomach is growling 30 minutes later. If you're going to have Rice Krispies cereal, make Rice Krispies Treats.

makes great rice crispie squares, yum yum

Very bland but all you have to do, is simply pour a bunch of sugar on them and you have a perfectly tasty cereal.

I only like Rice Krispies with marshmallows.
abby1707et 12/18/1999
The snap, crackle & pop were sometimes the only positive thing going when i was growing up. Also, you don't have to gnaw on Rice Krispies. They have the amazing quality of being crunchy and sort of fluffy at the same time. And they taste good.
Yahd3240om 12/18/1999
Another low sugar cereal that I personally eat frequently.
magellan 12/14/1999
You need to pile on the sugar to get any enjoyment out of these at all. I would also agree with brad@free-thinking.com about the devastation which MILK wreaks on the fragile equation of Snap, Crackle, and Pop.
Ruby 12/13/1999
I grew up on Rice Krispies but have to punish them with a 3 because of the sogginess that sets in after about 2 minutes. Snap, Crackle & Pop are quickly muted by their friend Milk...
