He used to be funny at first, but this character really got out of hand in the latter days! From an average but inept workingclass dimwit, he's degenerated into a really mean spirited and obnoxious imbecile!
ChunkyLover53 02/09/2003
Homer Simpson is my favorite TV character of all time. He is so funny. I love his one-liners and crazy schemes, although they've been relying a little too much on crazy schemes lately. Long Live Homer Simpson!!!
gopman79 02/01/2003
He is the Simpsons. He is what makes this show live and breathe. He may not be smart, but without him, this show is nothing.
Homerworshippe r 01/07/2003
Homer is the greatest character ever created for television. With his decreasing intelligence every episode, just makes the show better and funnier. "Oh well, got him as good as he got me. DOH!" Matt Groening should receive the nobel peace prize for this show.
lula_arg 01/01/2003
absolutely hilarious. he`s far away the most funny and stupid character who appeared on tv on the last years.

How do you suppose the 'Simpsons' would have turned out if Bart had become the main character instead of Homer, as was once intended? Would it still have become the global phenomenon that it is today? Probably not, as it's hard to imagine what the show would be like without Homer at the wheel. No other character, in almost any show, has provided more quotes on life worth tucking into your memory for future use, so much humour or so many memorable situations. Oafish, dim-witted and deeply confused, perhaps Homer's vast appeal can be pinpointed to the fact that he is just a typical loser like the rest of us trying to make his way through society as he sees it. No wonder he is loved by so many viewers. That said, as great a character as he may be, in my view Homer is somewhat over-rated. Ask any fan who their favourite character is and they're almost bound to say Homer. Homer may make me laugh and do crazy things and I love him for it, but nowadays his impulsiveness and stupidity dominate way, way too much of his character and the show in general. Homer had a much deeper character in the earlier seasons, when, even if he failed, he'd still make the effort to some extent, and so was easier to root for. Impulsiveness and stupidity are all well and good for laughs, but it's vivid characterisation that really makes a character great. Fortunately, Homer has just enough of this to get by. And get by he does.

Homer has to be the dumbest cartoon character ever made, that's what makes him so funny.
sperryc 12/20/2002
Like FilmGirl, one of my favorite Simpsons moments comes from the 'Pony episode' (when Homer has to take a 2nd job working the night shift at the Quickie Mart so he can afford to buy Lisa a pony). The moment comes at the very end of the show when Lisa convinces Homer that she'd love him with or without the pony, at which point a sleep-deprived Homer quits his Quickie Mart job. As he and Lisa are walking away from the store (in piggyback) Apu (sic.) reflects on his former employee: "He slept on the job, he stole, he disrespected the clientele...But even so, there goes the best damned employee I've ever had." Only a character as deep and complicated as Homer Simpson could have left behind this type of conflicted Quickie Mart legacy.

Greatest character ever made. I can only hope that I can be half the father he is.
wmassie 12/19/2002
The greatest TV character of all time? Soon, this question will have to be dealt with seriously. He is up there with anyone: humor, depth, longevity, evolution.
spudmandudej 12/03/2002
Homer himself is the embodiment of society's ability to be completely idoitic, lazy, and incompotent yet courageous, witty and overall a good person who wants only to do good for the rest of the world, or at least family. Genius.

Homer's style and grace will be one that no other cartoon character can match. His clumsiness and thickheadedness makes him into the Homer that we all know and love and despite his lack of common knowledge, he shows never ending love for his family and yes, for that he should be a role model.
pikachan 08/15/2002
Homer is one of the funniest characters on the Simpsons. He is funny because of his stupidity. He has said "D'oh!" in most of the episodes. He is one of my favorite characters. He has done A lot of things. He got free cable, he went on a hunger strike, he had a crayon removed out of his brain and he became smart, and the list goes on and on.

I think that Homer Simpsons character over the course of the last three years has really improved. If you watch some of the newer shows I think you will agree with me that The Simpsons are still going strong and probably will be for many years to come. Homer is just like one of them classic sitcom characters that is very original. Like a Jack Tripper or a Archie Bunker. I don't think anybody will ever forget this character because he is truly great. Homer Simpson is the father we all wish we had growing up. Gives you money, makes you laugh, and chokes the crap out of you when you piss him off...well he's probably NOT the perfect father but never the less he is hilarious.

Homer Simpson is GREAT, who dosen't enjoy a yellow guy do things that is NORMALLY REALLY embarrising. That makes you laghe all by itself but, I mean, Homer is YELLOW, Who wouldn't crack up if a yellow guy walked by you in the street and asked you "Do you want a beer?" or if a YELLOW guy (notice I'm emphisizing that small fact that he is YELLOW) came into a fancy resteraunt on a donkey and start recking the place. That is the meaning of Comedy. When ushers attack you with giant kit- kat bars in a movie theater. It's funny.Simpsons. This word is reconized all around as the definition of teen cartoon comedy. But of course this is my opinion. BUT I hope you support it!
DeathRattle 03/08/2002
Homer took over Bart's position as the comedic guru on the show by time the 4th seson started. I can't imagine the show being as funny as it is without Homer's stupidity shining through.
couchpotato 02/20/2002
Isn't he a scream? Not a bad thing to say about good ol' Homer.
benfergy 02/02/2002
He's always got something funny to say.
Alucard 12/05/2001
Homer is the Simpsons! He is the master of dim and wit. he must be the number one remembered cartoon person in the world. there is probably a little japaneese kid watching the Simpsons saying HOMER-SON! but i ask you one thing where is the space for Blinky the three eyed fish?
Potch1214 11/28/2001
Who can not relate to Homer Simpson, the everyman schlub we all have been and can be from time to time. Bottom line on Homer is this; he obviously loves his wife, his kids and has a decent life. He's a good-natured soul with big dreams and a bigger appetite. He is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is also not as dumb as he may seem. Truly a pretty deep character who only seems simple on the surface. In my opinion, Homer is probably in the top 5 TV characters of all time. Homer Simpson, Lucy Ricardo, Archie Bunker, Cliff Huxtable, Cosmo Kramer. Timeless, classic.
Babtsova 11/15/2001
Absolutely the best! Stupid, but funny and endearing too
nateyboy90 11/13/2001
Homer is so damn funny!
ellajedlicka21 09/30/2001
Over the last few years, the focus of the show has dramatically switched from Bart to Homer. The writers make him just ever so funny. Also, his middle name is Jay.

Homer is not just the funniest cartoon, or the funniest TV character, HE IS THE FUNNIEST "THING" EVER!!! I mean that. All human comedians, bow down to your leader. There is more wit and humor contained within that which is Homer J. Simpson, than any other object of comedy to this very day. I truly beleive that the Simpsons is nothing less than groundbreaking television, and I don't think any show will ever compare, even in the future.
1971 09/16/2001
Homer simson has gotten too stupid to even be realistic he has suffered the "Chrissy" syndrome where a character gets dumber year after year.
ElegantFire 08/21/2001
Homer is the character that makes the Simpsons. He's a big dumb oaf, sure, but he sure is creative. His crazy ideas seem good to him, but they almost always end up in failure due to his lack of intelligence in carrying them out. The mishaps of Homer are what take the plot along, where he might meet all of the other funny characters of Springfield, like Comic Book Guy, Cletus, Chief Wiggum, etc. His ideas are so wacky that you have to love them, like his plans to sell Tomacco, the grease business, the idea of gaining weight to be on disability, etc. To watch some of the older shows where Bart was the main center of attention is kind of weird, because Homer is on the back burner and you miss his silly humor. Despite what he says and does, Homer can still be a better father than a lot of other dads out there, and he certainly makes life interesting for his kids (like when he decides to go into the grease business). Some of my favorite Homer quotes are "When you don't like your job, you don't strike! You just go in there everyday and do it half-assed. That's the American way!", "Well kids, you tried your hardest and you failed miserably. The lesson here is: Never try.", "To start press any key...Where's the any key?" "No tv and no beer make Homer go something something" Marge: "Go crazy?" "Don't mind if I do! (jumping all over the place and speaking gibberish). Mmmmm....Homer....
Snoopy 08/01/2001
Homer is definitely my favorite character. He's always good for a laugh. D'OH!!!
ashleys 07/29/2001
Homer's parenting skills are nothing less than amazing: Homer: We always have one good kid and one lousy kid. Why can't both our kids be good? Marge: We have three kids, Homer. "It's not easy to juggle a pregnant wife and a troubled child, but somehow I managed to squeeze in eight hours of TV a day." Marge: You will not be getting a tatoo for Christmas. Homer: Yeah. If you want one, you'll have to pay for it out of your own allowance. My personal favorite: "I don't want to look like a weirdo. I'll just go with a muumuu."
pedrogouveia 07/23/2001
(Homer):"Hello! My name is Mr.Burns. Do you have a letter for me?" (Mailman):"Ok Mr.Burns, what's your first name?" (Homer):"I don't know."

HOMER RULES!

Homer is my idol. He may be fat, lazy, bald, and stupid, but that doesn't mean he's not the funniest thing in the world!
Thorne 04/18/2001
Homer makes the Simpson's. He is probably the coolest, funniest and well written animated characters ever. I wish my Dad was Homer Simpson. His dim wittedness is admirable and much appriciated.
Buzz_454 04/16/2001
Homer is the only reason the simpsons are still on the air. No one else is nearly as funny.
Talena 04/12/2001

A true legend!! Undoubtedly the funniest cartoon character ever. His stupidity never seems to grow old but actually gets funnier by the episode.
