I loved coach, Sam, the Kirsti Alley character, the mopes drinking at the bar and some others. I didn't like the Rhea Perlman character, the dopey Woody Harrelson Character and Sam's first waitress--I forget her name, although she had her moments. All in all, I gotta give it a fiver for the good greatly over weighed the bad.

The very last in the series was a classic - and included a guest appearance from God himself! I nearly cried. I said nearly...

One of my favorite shows. Norm and Cliff were my favorite charecters, and I liked Carla's sarcastic comments.
Chrisrianna 08/04/2007
Never really understood why this show was so popular and Ted Danson sucks as an actor.
twansalem 05/06/2007
It was awesome when Nick-At-Nite started showing Cheers reruns a few years ago. I was too young to really get this show when it originally aired, but I've come to appreciate it as one of the best sitcoms of all time. Too bad they stopped showing the old reruns though. In my opinion they should stop showing Full House and Roseanne and put Cheers back on.

The most clever writing ever with top notch character potrayals. Rebecca Howe was a welcome improvement over Diane (Shelley Long). The show stayed consistently great until the end. Not many can claim that. Dr. Lillith's pent- up sexuality never failed to exite me. I thought that she and Dr. Crane's stuck-up, blow-hard personas represented stereotypical Bostonites very well.

Great show with excellant cast and good writing (not to mention, one of the best theme songs of all time.) 4 and a half stars.

When Cheers came out it broke new ground and was great for it. Even with cast changes it kept its charm. Anyone who has ever been a regular in a bar can relate to the relationships between the characters. But now in reruns I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. It got a little stale for me.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 07/24/2006
The high standard set by the first 3 series was pretty much maintained throughout all 9 unlike Friends and Frasier which lost it when key characters got it together and stayed loved up (Niles and Daphne, Chandler and Monica) unlike Sam and Diane. Methinks there's a lesson to be learnt. IMO, reasons why Cheers beats all the other US imports hands down. It never got sentimental. There were were more main characters than in most sitcoms so you never got bored of the same old relationships etc. The storylines were quirky and non-cliched. Put simply, it was the antithesis of Saved by the Bell

Cheers was a great show and one of my favorites when it was on. But when 'Seinfeld' came along, I realized that 'Cheers' actually followed a very rigid formula and a lot of the episodes all seemed the same while you never knew where 'Seinfeld' was going to take you.

For the uninitiated, the concept for "Cheers" was an alcoholic, ex-baseball player (Sam Malone played by Ted Danson) who owns and operates a pub in Boston. This show started out strong, stayed strong, and went out on top avoiding the dreaded fade from which almost all series suffer by lingering longer than they should. The characters were developed over time within their original conceptions (eg Carla Tortelli played by Rhea Perlman, Cliff Clavin played by John Ratzenberger, and Norm Peterson played by George Wendt), and the new faces that were added (eg Woody Boyd played by Woody Harrelson and Rebecca Howe played by Kirstie Alley) meshed with the pre-existing cast perfectly. Clearly, one of the best and most successful television series of the 1980's. "Cheers" was originally broadcast from 1982 to 1993.

It made me want to go to boston to drink some beer at the cheers bar.. was dissapointed when i found out that there is no cheers bar but a stor that sells merchandise... The Entertainment industry needs to open up from the roots. instead of making up crap

Norm!!! I remember watching this program growing up and all the time since. Classic programming - excellent characters and timeless entertainment. My favorite 80s sitcom - and possibly my favorite show period. This was the first show I really got "hooked" on when I was a kid.
GobTheHotCop 10/26/2005
I remember watching Cheers every Thursday night. Classic show, I still watch the reruns.

This show sucks. I don't know why it stayed on so long.
Bubblehead0774 7 06/01/2005
Really. one of the few great shows that was just as good in its last season as it was in its first, including everything in between. I'm not of many other shows that can make that claim. Just one mans opinion
kattwoman 05/13/2005
the show was funny and it had a great cast of characters except for diane. she could really get on your nerves and i was happy to see her go. kirstie ally was a much better replacement at least she was more pleasant. i loved coach and it was sad when the actor died but the show handled it well and woody was perfect not as a replacement but just a whole new character introduced. fraser seemed to fit in quite well after a while better than diane and i think the story line between him and rebecca would have been great if the show had pursued it. the two of them could have made a good spinoff if they had married instead of fraser with lilith who had no personality whatsover

Classic show with great writing. Name another show that lost two of its main characters and still was as funny, (in my opinion, funnier).
texasyankee 03/29/2005
classic
irishgit 03/25/2005
Better than average, particularly in its middle seasons. The supporting cast was often more interesting than the stars. Generally well written, and the occasional drop ins by real celebrities were always amusing.

Pretty good show

Timeless-and a primer for the kind of bar to hang out in.

Great cast. I never cared for Kirstie Alley (and this was even before she ate her way into oblivion).
sfalconer 12/02/2004
What can you say about cheers except funny. It lost a bit after the actor who play coach passed. I wish I could remember his name, he really made the show. As the show progressed it seemed to stay fresh even with the cast changes. Was very sad to see this end, not much holds up to it today.

cheers was alright, it wasnt the best 90's show in the world....it was just ok for me

Wonderful...and I got to see the outside of the pub when I went to Boston, so that was nice.lol

Funniest show ever with the greatest ensemble cast ever.

Had EXCELLENT moments, but was not the best show ever
ihatetheheat 08/11/2004
I really hate this show. It is so boring and stupid. The only charactor who is interesting and has any real personality is Rhea Perlman. If it wasn't for her I would give this show only one star. When this comes on change the channel or risk dying from boredom.
jgls 07/12/2004
i never really understood why people liked it so much.

A classic all the way...
Guava Monkey 06/29/2004
Way ahead of similar types of productions like 'Friends', 'Will & Grace' and the spin-off that is 'Frasier'. Didn't always hit the mark but usually the lines were sharp and the characters well rounded and likeable even the nerdy Cliff and the irritating Diane. This was one comedy which I was disappointed to see end.
rollinglover 06/26/2004
a really funny show!
Tiger3952 04/21/2004
I rarely watched this show when it was on during prime time, but I greatly enjoyed it in syndication. The funny characters made the show a success. The creators knew what they were doing when they put together the winning ensemble cast. Each performer made their role unforgettable and unique.
optionfootball 03/15/2004
Hard for me to appreciate this show, reflecting to childhood I didn't find anything funny at age 8-12 about a bunch of people living in a bar. Watch some reruns whenever they are on just because it's Cheers, otherwise, no interest.
Dawnsdinos 03/15/2004
I think this was one of the best comedies ever. We need another show like this now.
kinkykinks 03/13/2004
the show is in the top five in my book
ClassicTVFan47 03/09/2004
A great classic, although easily crushed by the utterly-awesome Frasier. The later seasons of Cheers are especially good, with some nicely unrealistic plots and over-the-top gags. The cast was good, except for Coach (who was kind of a dry character) who was replaced by the much more amusing Woody. Sam was almost Fonzie-esque in his dealings with women and Diane was a great foil for him. Rebecca worked also. Cliff was hilarious, and of course, Frasier was a brilliant character. Could have easily gone on without Ted Danson (who said he wouldn't do it anymore after '93) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier).

it's okay. I watched while it played it held no special interest for me but it was a good way to pass the time.

Cheers is one of the most successful and highly-regarded sitcoms in history. The fact that it ran for eleven years and didn't skip a beat following the departure of the beloved Shelly Long only proves the shows brilliance. I am a big fan of Shelly Long, but I am an even bigger fan of Kirstie Alley. The replacement of such a beloved castmember usually spells the end for a sitcom, but thanks in part to Kirstie's abilities as an actress, the show continued to be successful. Ted Danson, a very talented actor, had large amounts of charisma and on-screen chemistry with both Kirstie Alley and Shelly Long. Of course my favorite Cheers character is Frasier, for his famous wit and dry sense of humor. Kelsey Grammar had loads of chemistry with his on-screen wife Bebe Neuwirth. Throughout its eleven year run, Cheers produced many memorable moments and loads of comedy. Espescially when you consider the trials and tribulations this show endured (the departure of Shelly Long and personal problems with numerous castmembers), it speaks a lot of the producers and castmembers that this show managed to endure loads of success and receive lots of acclaim through all of that. Cheers is an instant classic and one of the greatest sitcoms of all time.
mllelarisa 11/02/2003
Could this be the BEST American sitcom ever??? I think so!
RebelYell1861 09/13/2003
What's the big deal? It ain't that great.
jamestkirk 09/12/2003
No doubt the best comedy of the 80s. Dominated the ratings and was hilarious from beginning to end unlike some other classic comedies. Quite possibly the best enseble of cast members of any comedy and maintained high-quality comedy with some of the changes of cast members. Again, I feel this separates Cheers from other classic comedies as well.
kolby1973 09/02/2003
The show is a little overrated, and it went downhill as soon as Diane (Shelley Long) left the show. Kirstie Alley and Ted Danson do not have chemistry together. But I can see why other people would like this show, personally I didnt like it the last few years.
