When I was a kid I wanted to be the Fonz!
MJSThirty6 11/17/2002
I loved the first couple seasons but it really started going downhill from there. I would say it died when Chachi(Scott Baio) appeared. The characters looked authentic in the first season but after that, they started to slowly morph into 1970s/80s dress and hairstyles. They did not need the laugh tracks. The same thing is happening with "That 70s show".

Why did Henry Winkler insist on being something that he is not, especially since he was so unconvincing?
happydaysfan 11/04/2002
Happy Days was the all-time great TV comedy ever made. Fonzie totally ruled all. Anyone who disses the Fonz doesn't know what cool is. I thought it was best in the middle seasons, but I don't think it died when Howard left. As long as Fonzie was there, the show was cool

Still watch the reruns. I was too young to appreciate this show back then...but now that I am older...its actually really funny and sweet. I love all the characters.
radiogman 08/15/2002
If happy Days had stayed the same as it was the first two seasons, I would have given it a 5. After it went in front of a live audience I really didnt like.
Joey1963 06/13/2002
This show started out good...the first two seasons were the best...but then it became the Fonzie show very quickly. The rest of the cast became just supporting characters to Henry Winkler...Ron Howard came to his senses and left the show to do much bigger and better things. The show became so ridiculous and totally unbelievable...Joanie Loves Chachi? Give me a break...

Happy Days began as an early wonder years, thriving with nostalgic references. As the series aged, it became centered around Fonz and Richie. I agree with the assessments that it went donwhill after Mr. Howard left; his was the center character of the series. Fonz was to play off Richie and now there was no Richie. However, while the show was never the same, it did have some highlights. Ron Howard's return was a wonderful and well-played episode. Also, Scott Baio became a solid actor, rather than just a teen heartthrob. In all, this was a solid sitcome whose early days were probably the truest Happy Days.

I watch it all the time on TV Land!!! It's funny and just great acting.

GREAT CASTING! ANOTHER SHOW THAT WAS BETTER IN IT'S EARLY DAYS.

Probably a more accurate dsiplay of life in the 1950s then any of the shows made in the 1950s.

The show started out as a good fun show about the 50s. But I think it started going downhill after only about the third season. What happened was Fonzie began being the center of everything all the time! See, part of what was so cool about The Fonz to start with was that he was relatively quiet and not ever-present. He'd just show up at the "right time." But they began running the character into the ground so far that he went from cool to borderline obnoxious. Soon the show seemed to have little if anything to do with the 50s. And eventually they began adding a parade of annoying and unbelievable characters that I won't even bother mentioning. But I think for the first few seasons, it was one of the better shows or maybe even the best show of the 70s.

I, myself, give Happy Days a rating of five for many reasons. That cast did a heck of a better job than any other cast I have ever seen. Happy Days was ment to be a story about the Cunningham family growing up. If you watch any other television show about families growing up you just always see the parents making a lot of corrections towards their kids and the show always ends with a happy ending. Happy Days was the oposite. Sometimes there would be Richie and Joanie making a point toward Mr.and Mrs. C. and once in a while the show did not always end with a happy ending. I am a member of the Happy Days Fan Club and after writing to them I have received autographed pictures of Scott Baio, Erin Moran, Gary Marshall, and Henry Winkler. I was only born in '77 but while in high school, at lunch time a friend of mine and I used to quiz each other on the cast of characters sice we had them memoerized. I have a three ring binder with which I put together all of these Happy Days memories because in the first section you have the e-mail that I received from Gano (one wwho helps run the fan club), in the second section there is a lot of articles about the show, in the third section there is a lot of articles about the cast of characters, and in the fourth section there are a lot of pictures of the cast members. Back while in college I even recorded the theme song. This was while the show was on nick-at-nite. Then I also have at least 8 VCR tapes of episodes of Happy Days recorded.

A great classic from the 70s and 80s. The humor involving the Fonz, Richie, and the rest was well-written and well-acted. Even after Richie left, the show did quite well. It also spinned off two super sitcoms: Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. Axed before its time in 1984.
ellajedlicka21 09/30/2001
That is such a funny show, especially Fonzi.
Chaotician23 09/26/2001
How can this wonderful show be this far down the row? Fonzie makes this the show of the 70's. It was such a great show untill it dunked into that damn Joanie and Chaci thing taking away Richie, Potsie, Ralph, and Fonzie. Deserves to be up there with Lucy and Andy Griffith.

Happy days was cheep show, it had bad writing in it and sometimes bad acting, but it is still the best television series ever made. There was something special in the air.It made me happy and it makes me happy every time I watch it. Happy Days is the second biggest Love of my life (mom is numero uno). It's all about the feeling it generated, not about the techical or artistic greatness. Fan from Finland.

Fantastic! This is the most classic between the classical TV products. I love it even if it's a quite old product.
Janey_Lane 07/07/2001
Never saw the point of this show. It was blaze when it started and once Ron Howard left it became directly painful to watch. I just didn't get it. Why would a grown man reguarly stop by his former-best-friends-parents house all the time? And didn't the Fonz start out dumb?
CastleBee 06/28/2001
"Happy Days" made me a happy viewer - but only for a very short time. TV's answer to and attempt to cash in on the popularity of the hit movie "American Graffiti", it started out with the same slight edge albeit, intentionally at a much lighter made for TV weight. Unfortunately, it quickly began to lapse into a kind of cutesy all-about-the-Fonz sameness - a nose dive from which it never recovered. Looking back, this was not at all unpredictable. Right off the bat you have actors who are supposed to be teenagers but are actually early to late-twenty-somethings. This severely limited their shelf life and it wasn't long before these guys started looking a tad long in the tooth. Even the Fonz was around 10 years older than his character was supposed to be. As far as the writing goes, I can't seem to shake the feeling they turned it over to a group of interns or something after about the first year. Well, maybe not, but it would explain some of the increasing silliness as subject matter and a very real lack of accurate information about the era in which the show was supposed to be taking place. It was pretty obvious by the second year we had somehow managed to time travel from the 50's to the 70's - except that the cast had forgotten to change clothes. To sum it up, the show lasted way longer than it should have and its creative edge grew very dull before the shows execs conquered their denial problem. I for one did not stick around to witness the final disintegration as it spiraled into the pathetic Ron Howard-less Jonie loves Chachi era. The powers that be for "Happy Days" may have had a good idea once upon a time, but they definitely had no appreciation for the phrase "quit while you're ahead".

Fun, exciting and energetic!

Mindless trash tv. Do not waste your time with this clunker! Silly storylines and moronic characterizations. The show was originally set in the fifties but quickly disintegrated into an undefined decade. This show joins Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy as the Terrible Sitcom Trilogy of the Seventies.
callmetootie 04/04/2001
The series had a good run from 1974-1980, but when Ron Howard left, the show got really tired and used. I thought that Henry Winkler was annoying.

I love this show!
mongrelpup 01/24/2001
A huge show when I was in highschool, it's aged even worse than I have. Some nice characters saddled with bad storylines and lame humor. And I've always been mystified by the blatant inconsistencies in time period. I mean, half the characters really try to evoke the fifties with DA's and ponytails while the other half walks around in 70's shags and jumpsuits (Scott Baio, Suzt Quatro).

When this show was on top of its game it was very funny, but it did stay on a few years to many.

one word: terrible
Soldierblue 09/17/2000
Great Show....great acting.....good delivery of sometimes weak material....the show is an Icon and reflects the things people remember from the 50's. Even the modern stage musical is good.....the wholesome Cunningham family and the good hearted Hooligan made the show.....we all remember the catch phrases of every character......this is an indication of what the show means to so many.
soin9962et 08/20/2000
late eps sucked
peku5492du 07/04/2000
"Laverne & Shirley" is ten times better than "Happy Days". This hasta be the only example in TV history of a spin-off outperforming the original.
jayn7123om 06/05/2000
So terribly over-rated. All the screaming and cheering from the audience tries to make you forget nothing funny is happening. BUT, Tom Bosley and Marion Ross do have nice moments.

This show was the orgignal. It had everything, and the character of Fonzie was so creative and entertaining. I never liked Laverne and Shirley though-the ensemble of Happy Days was really amazing.

This is one of the greatest old-time shows. And no one will ever be cooler than the Fonz! Aaaaaaaayyyyy! And the Cunninghams were such a funny family, so typical, but also in a way, so not. This is the greatest!!
Ruby 12/13/1999
Watching reruns of this show on Nick-At-Nite, I discovered how much 90210 is based on this show. Fonz=Dylan, Richie=Brandon, Walshes=Cunninghams, Al=Nat, Ralph=Steve, Posty=David, Chachi=Noah. Spooky, eh? Anyway, this show would get five stars just for introducing the term "ayyye" into our jargon - but it did so much more: "sit on it" "wah wah wah" "listen here, bucko" etc.
SamIAm 11/04/1999
I remember my brother had the Fonzie shirt "AAAAAAAAA" Classic TV..I remember watching this and then Laverne and Shirley came on right after. I think Pinky Tuscadera is in jail now?! Wonder what ever happened to Leather?
