It's nice to see a nice, clean family comedy that was still funny! And the characters weren't dumb either. So much better than anything on TV today.

Hmmm... okay but has many corny episodes. I Love Lucy is much better.

Leave it to Beaver is a superb example of tying together a moral message with comedy (ala Andy Griffith Show, etc.) and doing it all clean. I love how the family is portayed as completely wholesome and the plots can sometimes be quite amusing. Another great comedy from the 50s.

Maybe it is because I am not one of the original viewers of the 1950s, but I don't get the appeal. How dare my mother criticize me for liking Full House, calling it tired and chesey, and then switch to TV Land to watch Leave It To Beaver? If you read some of my other posts, you will know that I am a huge fan of clean family oriented shows, but this show is too clean even for me. This show makes my Full House look like Friends. Anyone who says that this show is a model of typical American families in the 1950s is either a liar or a fool. Just like the Tanners on Full House, NO FAMILY IS THAT PERFECT! Yet I gave it 2 stars because, despite everything I said, I must admit that the show did have its ocasional moment of comedy.

I think this show is the greatest! I think Wally is one of THE HOTTEST guys I've ever seen, even if he seems dumb on the show! I can't believe Tony is now 54! Geez! Long live LITB!

Ok, so it’s quite dated! So, this family is affluent, white and live in what now seems a distant fantasy! So what? For what it was, Beaver is humorous and simple without pandering to our lowest common denominator as much of today’s shows do. After seeing these episodes time and time again, I appreciate them more. Characterization was phenomenal! Eddie Haskell and Lumpy Rutherford are the blueprints of Bart Simpson, The Fonz, and Beavis and Butthead to name just a few recent examples. Despite their shortcomings and triteness, I thoroughly enjoy watching each and every character on Beaver! I’m convinced; Beaver, Eddie and Lumpy had varying degrees of ADD! I know, because, I myself have ADHD and have been told I have qualities of the Beav, Lumpy and especially Eddie Haskell! My favorite episode out of all these great ones was the one where the boys sported jellyroll pompadour hair dos and they played this really cool 50’s saxophone “hood music!”

Leave It To Beaver is actually a pretty cute sitcom. I was really surprised because a lot of the humor isn't outdated, and look at the dates it ran from. I mean it's no I Love Lucy or The Facts Of Life, but it sure beats watching some of those other shows like My 3 Sons.

ONE OF THE BETTER WHOLESOME HOME LIFE OF THE 50'S/60'S SHOWS.

This was a great program. The characters kept true to the time period. What made this show so realistic is that Ward was not always portrayed as having all the answers. He lost his temper and admitted to being wrong at times. Wally, Beaver, and all their friends (even Eddie) were adorable.

Sure, "Leave It to Beaver" was an ultra-cheesy show about a too-good-to-be-true family. Yes, many aspects of it are disturbing today (sexism springs to mind, for example). But I think that Ward and June did know a little something about parenting. For one thing, they made parenting (not working) their top priority. There was always an adult home supervising the kids, and Ward and June knew and communicated with the parents of their children's friends. The family had dinner together every night, without the television blaring. School was the most important part of their children's lives (not sports or other activities), and great respect was given to teachers and school administrators. There were high expectations for behavior at home and at school, and any infraction of the rules was dealt with immediately. Sports and other activities were important, but the children had plenty of unstructured time after school, too. I think that too many parents today are focused on themselves instead of their children, and they're simply not willing to do what it takes to be really good parents. Maybe they need to watch a few reruns of "Leave It to Beaver!"

Love that Eddie Haskell

The pseudo-psychoanalyzation of Leave It To Beaver is bunk. It was a good wholesome show that promoted morals and ethics and allowed us to have fun while doing so. Pure and simple.

An underrated show. Not just another "Father Knows Best" this show has subtext that's easily overlooked by the casual viewer. Beaver's parents clearly had a very different upbringing than they are giving their children; Ward often makes oblique references to the corporal punishment and lack of warmth he received as a child. This show is an interesting study in the ideals of progressive parenting.
